    I think for IxxPs, it's more of, when they like or are interested in something, they'll consume as much as conditions allow, meaning they'll only consume what they like and they'll keep on taking in any information about it until they don't like it anymore, or by themselves decide to stop. While ExxPs are open to any type of information to consume, but it only registers to memory or for utility when it resonates with their "Fi values/truth or Ti logic/truth".

      CZcams Veterinarian I haven’t been officially typed, but I’m quite certain it’s savior consume.

    • @caffe1n8ed
      @caffe1n8ed Před 4 lety +8

      CZcams Veterinarian It’s the format of reading, not the act of consuming. Of course I have considered it, but I do so much CS-ing and so little BP-ing, I have a hard time believing I’ve consume as a demon. Reading is just the one type of consuming which is hard for me, because I, like Bill, set rules of reading and comprehension to myself. I prefer to take in information through other formats; visually, through audio etc.

    • @caffe1n8ed
      @caffe1n8ed Před 4 lety

      CZcams Veterinarian indeed. Otherwise I’d never have typed myself as having Oe savior:). I will say, however, that my friend who has consume 3rd or 4th also claims to “love lots of new information”, so perhaps it isn’t the most accurate thing to type based on. She does enjoy new information, yet she prefers to go to her previously stored information first.
      So no, I’m not certain that I’m consume savior, but I do think it seem most reasonable.

    • @caffe1n8ed
      @caffe1n8ed Před 4 lety +3

      CZcams Veterinarian I think my friend might be quite similar to you, and that’s why she claims to love new information (because it is on her own terms). Could this be consume 3rd?
      For me, often I consume something out of simple curiosity. It doesn’t need to be within a subject I know and love, or have any use in studying. It just needs to catch my attention and offer me NEW information.
      After I’ve gathered it, I’ll take my time to process it.
      So essentially I tend to discover something new, learn about it, process and practice it, and then put it to side when something else new and exciting pops up. Rinse and repeat 😂

    • @caffe1n8ed
      @caffe1n8ed Před 4 lety +3

      CZcams Veterinarian Ohh I think I see where the disconnect is. I think you misunderstood my original comment a bit. It’s not that I don’t want to read new stuff.
      I want to gain the new knowledge, but the format of reading demands a lot more of me than other formats. As Bill said, with reading especially you have to actively make sure you’re paying attention and comprehending. When reading one is in charge of placing emphasis the right places in order to understand the text the way it was meant to be understood. Essentially when I read, I feel responsible to take my time to scrutinize the text and fully comprehend and internalize it. It becomes a long process, and other formats make the process much easier, so I rarely pick up books. I should also mention that with books, the authors structure the text in a certain way for a reason. So basically I hold my self accountable for full comprehension all the way through the book, and if I stop actively paying attention at some point, I won’t get the full experience. It’s a bit hard to explain actually 😂
      Saying I don’t want to read *new* stuff is misleading, because regardless of whether it’s new or old information, reading can be straining, as I have more responsibilities than I would if I only had to listen and comprehend.
      I hope this clears it up a bit :)

It was really difficult for me to finish the liberal arts reading assignments during college, because after every paragraph I had to stop and emotionally deal with what I just read, or have flashbacks about where I have seen the concept take action in the past, or perhaps even go to the internet on a tangent to explore and fully understand the new concept I had just read. I was literally getting upset over how my mom raised me when I had to read "The Second Sex". Everything hits me personally. Meanwhile the essay is due tomorrow....

Fi is concerned with how we ourselves feel about it, does it align with our moral understanding, our sense of authenticity, our emotional selves. Does that make sense? Gates is a fascinating contrast with me. There's a huge difference between Consume with Sleep 2nd and Consume with Sleep 4th. The ratio of books I have begun to books I have finished is like 20 to 1.
    Actually, I very recently developed a habit of note-taking while reading, and it's a dramatically different experience. I'm frustrated at the time with how much more slowly I move through the book, but afterwards I find it far easier to *recall and apply* that information. The work of "translating" the Ne stuff into Si instances that can be referenced in the future is very difficult, but incredibly rewarding.

I have felt sure over and over that I have got to have Blast and Play at the top (especially because I wish I didn't have them first), but there are some pieces of what you describe in Consume that seem to rule me. However, the whole Consume bit could be explained by my childhood. For instance, I'm Si/Ti SC/B(P), so my consume is Ti/Ne, but often when I'm reading or wachting a video or something like that, I take a time to reflect about what I'm consuming and organize all the details and factual information (sleep SiTi).

    What about a person who consumes to blast and blasts to consume? Also how do we account for the impact of neurodivergence?
    For example I have both ADHD and Autism but I frequently type as INFP and personally agree with this identity (though not every stereotype around it)
    That being said I am also studying for a degree in philosophy and often find the majority of my time is spent exploring thoughts and ideas and seeking out new information to try and come to new understandings and build the best most consistent worldview I can and once I get a piece to fit the puzzle it sparks new inspiration for new questions to explore that couldn’t even be understood before.
    I also in my approach whenever I can love to engage others in philosophical discussions to understand differing viewpoints and test my hypotheses against their reasoning, it’s pretty easy to convince my logic but not nearly as easy to sway my values which is why I don’t think im INTP, but I just happen to value logical thinking in general.
    Anyways I end up blasting my theories at others but in turn really intently take the time to soak in the responses and different perspectives I get and really think them over and try to understand them on a deep level.
    I always kinda assumed a lot of this was explained by my ADHD/Autism traits with special interests drawing in my attention and info-dumping on those interests to others and then being specially attentive to what they have to say.
    Adhd makes my interests widely varied and outspoken and Autism makes me deep dive into them and hyperfixate.
    But idk how that affects tthe functions.
    I posed a similar question to Harry on his channel “Cognitive Personality Theory” which I also find very insightful for how things work behind the scenes of the functions and see it as a complementary theory to this one.
    Honestly I would love to see a between your two channels with your scientific approaches to personality discussed and explored in depth, and honestly research into how neurodivergency impacts personality would be amazing!
    Thank you for your thoughtful insights!

    Of course an INTJ would think ESFP's are the dumbest ones. But a professional like you (Dave) has no right to express it in those blunt terms. Especially someone who has a deep understanding of types and human nature. As an INTP, I think ESFP (and especially Kim ^^) are awesome people, that we need in our life, and they are very fun and enthousiastic about ideas and theories. So don't say they're dumb because they don't work the way you work. I personnaly feel that INTJ's are sometimes the smartest self-defeating people, but do I have to say it out loud, and at their face? No, unless they are being obnoxious and need some feedback to get back on track. Cheers, and thanks for all the work btw.

    How does consume work for J types?
    Will an ENTJ, for example, be
    Se > Fi, Se > Ti, or Ne > Ti ?
    Thought about it and my assumption is that it depends on the situation. Tuning into his ESFP subconscious it will be Se > Fi.

      ENTJ is Te-Ni-Se-Fi, so it would be like a baby ESFP consume - taking in easy surface-level information (Se), and internalizing what they like (Fi) - all so reluctantly because their preferred animal in action (in contrast) would be either blast or play.

    • @nora_8080
      @nora_8080 Před 3 lety

      If they are Ni dominant, it will be connected to their goal. So basically if they come to the conclusion that for their dream job they will need to know XYZ, they will search the internet and/or read books. While they're doing this, they are also judging each knew information, trying to decide if it's worth to remember or not, because as consume last, they want to take in THE LEAST amount of info.
      For Si dominants, it's connected to their system. The Si trusts the process. This means "doing this will make my life better". For example they might come to the conclusion that reading in a second language will help their brain develop better. This might not be connected to any kind of specific goal, although it will generally come in handy in some situations. This will push them to read. The Si logic is: if I do things a certain way and live my life doing certain things, I will be equipped with the right skills and knowledge to do anything I decide.

      @Timonsaylor Před 4 lety

      @Mr. 8-Bit Doggo For my Se, I'll consume a whole lot of factual information that's correlated on a topic and then when I'm "sleeping" I'm looking at all the data that's been gathered and trying to pinpoint the intuitive "why" after.
      What I'm trying to ask is how the hell that process works for someone who's Ne over Si

    • @caffe1n8ed
      @caffe1n8ed Před 4 lety

      Simon Taylor that’s very interesting actually. I have the opposite struggle of yours: I really struggle to imagine how Se > Ni does CS, but your explanation was really helpful.
      I haven’t been officially typed, but I would describe my CS, which is likely Ne > Si as such:
      In the process of gathering I comprehend the knowledge conceptually, based on connections, rather than a collection of data points. (Ne) Then I’ll compare my new knowledge to previously stored knowledge, and see how they connect, and if the information aligns. (Si/sleep)
      Sleep and Consume essentially work together like this for me: New information(Ne) -> Do I agree? (Di) -> Does it match my current knowledge? (Sleep) If not, why do they not align, and which is more accurate - the new information or my old information?
      I don’t know if this helps at all, but at least I had fun writing it lol

    • @caffe1n8ed
      @caffe1n8ed Před 4 lety

      Simon Taylor But like @Mr. 8-bit Doggo said, the consuming and processing often happen simultaneously.
      I will read a few sentences in a book, then stop to process (do I agree? Does this match my known information? Etc. etc.)
      Other times I will consume something and not process it properly, and it will come back to me later in the day. I’ll say stuff to my friend like “remember what the teacher said about sociology during the first class? I just realized he was wrong because XYZ...”
      Honestly I have a hard time understanding consume without sleep, since they’re so closely tied together for me, so I’m probably mixing up my own consume and sleep processes. They just kinda bleed together in my mind, I suppose.

      It's abit of a tricky one but I guess you can look at it like this...when looking for an answer/solution, saviour Se/Ne will prefer to look at a wide variety of information, however when they are consuming a particular pot of information, they are responsible to consume all of what is PRESENTLY infront of them. The Saviour Ni/Si may not consume ALL of what is presently infront of them when consuming a particular pot of information (by selectively consuming), however they are more willing to follow up with the same pot of information in the future, so while the Oi does this the Oe moves on to other sources of information. If bill gates was lead Ne, the scatteredness would probably be worse - but since he is a double observer it's not quite as bad as an ExxP.
