- I recently asked viewers if they'd be interested in videos where I focus on all the items we have from a specific doll's collection, and the answer was an overwhelming YES! We have a few dolls where I feel we have enough of their collection to warrant a video, and I am starting with Maryellen :-) If you enjoy this, be sure you're subscribed and have notifications on so you know when I post the next video in the series :-)
Also, random side note - for some reason I kept saying "shawl" when I meant "shrug" in this video, but I think we'll all survive my faux pas ;-)

Take if from a long time subscriber , I have NEVER gotten rid of a doll that I didn’t regret, especially if it’s discontinued or changed. I played dolls with my granddaughter when she was small. She lived with me until she was six. She came home from the hospital to my house, along with her mom and dad. She turned 19 this month and is finishing her freshman year at Auburn University . She has a full scholarship to study plasma physics. I notice you have a little one. You will be surprised how many memories will be made as y’all play with her American Girl dolls . I am enjoying your channel. You will likely see several comments in a row because I tend to Bing watch a new channel until I get caught up.
Oh, we've sold over 30 dolls. Some of them I don't even remember. But there's a difference in dolls that we acquired to be part of our collection and dolls we knew we were going to sell from day one. The latter I don't think twice about but if they're part of our actual collection we deliberate and make sure we're really ready to part with one. This is our third Maryellen (at least) and we've never gotten her to keep - only as part of larger lots where we picked out what we wanted and sold what we didn't want.
And I'm happy to see the non-stop comments - it makes me smile to think of someone binge-watching my channel!
Also, I don't know if you've seen any videos yet that mention my older kiddo, but she's 21. A 21 year old and a 3 year old (and both were planned ;-)...I just jokingly tell people I can't multitask so I had to get one into adulthood before I could manage another child lol. Anyway, SOOO many memories of dolls with the older one, though she was into Liv dolls rather than AG.
Maryellen's skating outfit, skates, and accessories are basically at the top of my wishlist. I love that outfit so much. ❤
Since making this outfit, I actually DID get her skating outfit (and NIB at an amazing price - woohoo!!) but not the skates or accessories. I love that dress, too.
I love Maryellen's collection! I really want her sledding outfit and the pretty pink dress. SO cute.
The pretty pink dress (with the crinoline) takes up more space than most outfits, so sometimes I think, "Should we have gotten that?" and then I put it on a doll and the answer is obviously, "Yes. Yes. Yes."

This was great! You have so many different items in her collection. I love that you put all of the outfits on other dolls and photographed them. I celebrate with you that you got the swimsuit outfit for $7. :) How wonderful that you asked if he had more. Wow! And how kind of you to put together his outfits for him. I think I would have compulsively wanted to do the same thing. :) That would bother me if they were wrong. I never knew about the prototypes for her meet dress. It was cool to see that picture too. I'm glad you enjoyed it! You know I don't collect "by the rules" so modern girls and historical girls all get to wear whatever they want :-) I love putting other dolls in Maryellen's collection! And asking if a seller has more has paid off on SEVERAL occasions. Often the answer is 'no', but occasionally they have some real treasures they just haven't listed yet - the work of organizing and listing things is overwhelming for those of us who ARE used to it and maybe doubly so for ppl who rarely sell online. So sometimes they just haven't gotten to it and are happy to have me take more than I'd originally planned ;-) And yeah - the prototype dresses are so cool. Her collection (even the dresses that didn't make the cut) is really great!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I agree… Mary Ellen's collection is just a treat for the eyes! One of my favorite collections. As for the big ticket items, I know we didn't technically need them… but when you have basement space and the price is that great, how can you say no? Lol
I love the 50’s style so I really like all of Maryellen’s collection and you’ve got so many great pieces! Her outfits are absolutely adorable and I would probably wear most of them now haha!
I would feel so dolled up and glamorous in her wardrobe. The world would not be ready for it lol!

LMAO. If it makes you feel any better, no one has purchased her from us yet so we technically still have a Maryellen in the house. But we won't indefinitely. I'm okay with sacrilege, I guess lol. (bonus entry recorded ;-)

Thanks so much! I think I would like to get her 1st school outfit and the strawberry outfit, but I am patient and can't wait until we find a good deal on them. Oh, and if I ever luck out and get the rockin' roller skating outfit I will do a happy dance! It will probably be late April before I do another one of these because I have a lot of other video ideas I'm working on, but I am definitely going to cover Rebecca's collection like I did Maryellen's. I love Maryellen’s collection! I still don’t think she’s the most unique doll appearance wise, but I do have her because, once I read her story, there was no going back! I love her character, and she pairs well with Melody. My Maryellen is essentially a fellow 1960s girl. Her collection is top notch! My favorite outfit is one you don’t have - the roller skating dress! - but there are so many good ones. I also love the prototype meet dresses and have one from Etsy as well. Someday I’d love one of the diners, but I do have the sofa! I mostly use it modern. It’s a great piece. I love the color more than the pink Truly Me sofas they’ve had. I love that it folds out like a real sofa bed. Great video! These collection videos are so fun. Can’t wait to see more.

I love the roller skating dress! But I'll have to luck out and get it in a lot by a minor miracle, because that thing does not come cheap! lol. It's funny to me that we have so much of her collection and so much of Courtney's but don't have either doll (well, we technically still have the Maryellen from this video but she's for sale). At one point I figured out that I had more of Maryellen's clothing collection than anyone else's! I do really like her but feel like the other girls have some catching up to do. I was born in 1957 s o I do have some vague memories of the era, including a couple pics of me in a little cowgirl dress.
It'll be interesting to see who we have more stuff for. Our most complete collection is for GOTY Grace, but dolls like Julie have larger collections than Grace did, so it's possible to have MORE outfits but a SMALLER % of Julie's or Maryellen's collection. We'll see :-)
I love Maryellen and her collection! I didn't like the doll herself until I saw photos on Instagram, just like with Grace. I really do want to collect as much of her collection as I can. The furniture pieces don't bother me because I don't have a dollhouse and even then I don't really have permanent setups, just what I like at the time. I'm a very all over the place collector haha

That's her Play Outfit. We got it in January of 2022, but it was part of a large lot, so it's hard to know how much it cost me. I hope you find it for a great price!!
Maryellen is so stinking cute and this is my parents Era ( my parents are in there 70s) and I ended up buying Maryellen for my mother ❤

Great collection, every outfit is so adorable. I hope you don't regret selling Maryellen. I hope you show Luciana's big ticket item....I would love to have her entire collection especially the space suit.
We have sold Maryellen at least 2 times (if not 3) already lol. She has always come to us in lots where we wanted other items from the lot and we never planned on keeping her. I don't think we'll regret selling her, but she's easy enough to come by if we do. Also, I'd be happy to cover Luciana's collection in depth like this. We have almost all of it. It'll probably be a few months before I get to that video, but I will add it to my ongoing list :)
OMG! Me too. I really regret not getting her space suit and the building table with accessories. And her space capsule.
Maryellen’s collection is so cute. I don’t have the room or budget for AG furniture but I’m kind of obsessed with her insanely shaped living room table, and her refrigerator. I keep an eye out for decent prices on some of her outfits and I’ve managed to get her purple school outfit and her cherry play outfit for less than I typically see them listed, but I haven’t been able to grab the strawberry one yet. The vacation play suit is my white whale, I had it in my cart at the benefit sale last year and it sold out before I could check out! Have you watched her Amazon prime movie? I thought it was really cute, it made me fall in love with her.
I did watch her Amazon prime movie and it was really cute. I think they did a horrible job with Melody's movie, but from what I remember of Maryellen's books, the movie was a good adaptation.
@@agtakesover I watched melody’s before I read her books so at the time I thought it was pretty good and I did cry because I’m not made of stone, but then I read her books and was like, okay, well, what the hell happened at Amazon.
@@strangelyliteral THAT. I did the same thing - watched the movie first and then read the books. When I watched the movie, I did think, "Way to jump straight into a horribly traumatizing event in the way that none of these other AG movies do, no preamble, no nothing." But it seemed like a good movie in spite of that. Then I read her books. It's been a while since I did either, so maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but the movie deprived her of her siblings, her grandparents, her extended family, and so much of the childhood joy she experienced in her books :-(

I know - it's insane. Every time someone posts an amazing deal they found at a thrift store (couldn't be me - our thrift stores NEVER have AG stuff) or whatever and I feel the pangs of jealousy, I remind myself that we have also gotten some amazing deals and I should focus on counting those blessings :-)
I also don’t like ME as a doll very much and don’t own her. I only own her pink flowery dress. I should have picked up her blue and white outfit.

I guess I also have that same prototype dress. I made it before she came out because I liked it better than her meet. And, then i didn’t get ME.
So you sew? Any chance you tried your hand at either of her other two prototype dresses? I really love them all! Her collection is so appealing to me, but fortunately I'm not the kind of collector who feels the doll and their collection *must* go together :-)

The material that those baby doll pjs are made from is called dotted Swiss. Not sure if it's exactly that material as dotted Swiss is usually somewhat shear. The dots are flocked so that is why they are raised. Does this describe that material ? I don't have those pjs nor have I ever seen (felt) them so I'm unsure if that is exactly the same type of material. Also, the little jackets that we wore at that time were called Bolero jackets or sweaters. The name may have changed over the years. Very common in the 50's and I had an Easter suit that was navy blue with a pleated skirt, white blouse, and matching navy Bolero coat.
They are definitely still called bolero jackets or even bolero shrugs. I made a note in the description when I realized I kept calling it a shawl incorrectly lol. And that does kind of describe the material of the PJs. I had never heard of dotted Swiss. Thanks for sharing that!
@@agtakesover Shrug is the name I've heard them called (leaving off the Bolero). Dotted Swiss is a material that a lot of fancy girl's dresses were made from. I think they still make it but I'm not sure. Seersucker is another material that is no longer used (but still available). A lot of girl's summer outfits were made from these two fabrics because they were very lightweight. Now material is so cheap they don't need to make lighter weight material.

@@agtakesover Thinking about this because I sew I often wonder what the material i used in outfits. I do buy some AG one (Love Shack Fancy material in the Flutter whatever dress is super thin and cheap) sometimes just to find out what the material is. What has surprised me, besides the LSF dresses is the Janie and Jack plaid jacket. I bought that when it was on sale. I was a bit disappointed to find out that it is just thin flannel and not wool. I'm sure a lot of their clothing is thin flannel now because of cost. I'd like to see AG CZcamsrs talk about the quality of the material used, too. I'm guessing most Etsy sellers use better quality fabric. The outfits that use better quality material are more expensive like the Diwali Celebration and the Dia de Muertos Celebration outfits. Still pretty expensive and probably won't sell cheaply on resale.
@@djg5950 Good points! I do describe the thinness and quality of the materials used (an example that comes to mind is referring to Maryellen's new PJs as feeling like sheets with a low thread count). But since I don't sew clothing, I am not as versed in more technical terms to talk about the materials.

I like longer videos. It’s a shame you can’t bond with MaryEllen. I have Courtney and her collection. I don’t use her PAC Man machine. I also very rarely take the other things out. I do love Courtney’s clothes and the fact that she has pierced ears. My other historical dolls don’t have pierced ears.
I'm glad you enjoy the longer videos. I try to have a mix since everyone's tastes are different. And it' snot that I *can't* bond with Maryellen. I think she's cute enough - I am just not particularly drawn to her and I think that's perfectly okay. About, Courtney - we don't have her Pac-Man machine or her television/beanbag set, but we have the rest. My younger daughter LOVES her collection (and the music videos AG put out :-)

We typically sell on Facebook marketplace and in Facebook AG Buy Sell Trade groups. But if I ever mention something is on sale and you're interested, you can email me at agtakesover@gmail.com. Also, about the sound…. it really depends. If I am on screen it will be quieter because the phone is the microphone I'm using and it's far away from me. If I'm off-screen and doing a voice over, it tends to be a lot louder (bc I use my actual professional microphone). This video was used my phone's microphone, and I have less control over the volume. I'm always experimenting with how to improve the sound, though, so I'll keep working on it :-)
