    I just bought a pair of Zoom Fly 5 and got my first run in them yesterday. I have two pair of the Zoom Fly 3's and this is a very different shoe. The 3's definitely made me faster, but not as comfortable as the 5. I also try to stay away from heavy weight shoes, but I got the 5 on a good sale, so decided to try them. I didn't really notice the weight and they were very comfortable. As all the reviews seem to indicate, a good daily trainer.

    I love these for tempo/threshold runs, it really locks me into my 10k/HM kind of pace for 10+km at a time. The geometry just works for me, I never had anything roll me through my pace as easy as this shoes does. I have a very flat and somewhat wide midfoot, these still feel great even after a 60-90min run. The weight doesn't bother me at all, I do not notice it one bit. I'm also a 175-180lb runner. Maybe smaller runners in the 140-150lb range would see these as more cumbersome...not me, I love them.

    I hadn't really thought about weight until about 6 months ago when I expanded my range of trainers and bought some that were about 340g. The difference was noticeable and so I've drawn an arbitrary cut-off point at 300g for the future.

    Weight is definitely important to me.
    I have size 45.5 EUR and anything above 320 grams for a normal running shoe / daily trainer is going straight back into the box and getting returned. I prefer shoes which are less than 300 grams in my size and there are plenty of good options out there.

    I ran my first ever marathon this year in Pegasus 39s, and thought these might be a good shoe to go for next. But I really can’t decide on them. I just seem to feel more exhausted at the end of my daily run with them… but totally agree with you on how they make you want to go faster… maybe that’s why I’m getting worn out!

    I bought a pari of Nike Zoom Fly 4 from a friend that didn't like them, and they have really started to "grow" on me. I like them a lot as a (long) distance shoe where you really just want a good flow and stride. They do however work for higher speeds as well, but yes, maybe a bit bulky some times for really high speeds, but the feeling of "flow" is quite hard to beat by other shoes I have. It has a carbon plate, so not sure why 5 wouldn't. Never tried the top line of Nike, but many other brands. My favorite shoe so far is the Endorphin Pro series, both 1 and 2.
    And btw, you probably now this by now, but Pegasus Turbo Next is launching. Haven't tried that series myself, except a pair of Pegasus 37 which I find extremely bulky and like some sort of basket-ball/clown shoe, but you mentioned you like the Turbos?

    I run about 80 miles a week on the sand at my local beach. 5' 8'', 130 lbs. I have 3 pairs of New Balance Rebel v.2 that I alternate through. Most comfortable running shoes I've ever worn. Marketed as mid cushion level. But for my height and weight, it feels like max cushion. Extremely cheap at the moment. Has the best lacing system. Takes just a second to lace up and get out of. Hands down the only shoe I need at the moment since I don't enter any races. Just casual running.

    • @EricS-uf9mv
      @EricS-uf9mv Před rokem

      There are some gnarly pics on the web of the Rebel V2 falling apart at the seams, like literally 4" tears between the mid-sole & the upper running laterally along the side of the shoe. Lots of ppl on the boards complaining about this shoe's quality control. U experienced any build quality issues w/ your pairs?

    • @vinhnguyen7142
      @vinhnguyen7142 Před rokem

      @@EricS-uf9mv I've seen those pictures also. Luckily I haven't experienced anything like that. Of the 3 pairs I have, one of them is 6 months old with well over 500 miles on it. And it feels almost like new. Granted I wear my shoes loose and I'm a mid-foot striker, so I don't tear at the seams nor do I unevenly wear out the midsole.
      My running form is also similar to Timothy Cheruiyot where I mostly place my feet instead of landing on it. Meaning that when my foot hits the ground, my knee is way in front of my body instead of below my body. Compound that with my 130 lbs. weight and 11 size shoe. You can say that's a nice recipe for long lasting shoes.

    I bought the VF2 first before I bought these, and man it feels really weird. I wear US13s and weight about 195-200 lbs, and these are 360g per shoe, compared to the 260g per with the VF2, these just feel very sluggish for me. The upper is also pretty cumbersome and loose. The midsole is not as reactive as the full on zoomx but it’s way better than react (with my weight). These are more for tempo/threshold and recovery/easy runs for me, the midsole feels very dead (as well as my legs) around that 10K mark, anything faster or longer I’m still going with the VF2s.

    im an amateur runne., i was using the nike invincible 1 and loooved them, i tried the zoomfly 5 but wooow its such a different shoe. i find it so heavy, so stiff, and the stack height is sooo high, i feel very unstable and like ill roll my ankle at any second. it also doesnt help that i run on gravel about 50% of the time and my gravel trails aren't the flattest. i bought these because im trying to be a longer distance runner, i wore them for my first half marathon for more speed?? and because of the plate??
    after a long hiatus since my half, i bought the invicible 3s last week. a bit too squishy compared to the 1, it seems to absorb the energy instead of returning it like the 1s. but i dont feel like im going to completely topple over like i do in the zoomflys. i had some heelslip but the runners knot fixed it for me. so this will be my new shoe.
    i wonder if weight plays into this? im only 57 kg so not much compression going on in the sole.

So it's a shame to hear that Nike have given up on the full length carbon plate with the 5. @@renssimons297 i must disagree on this. In my country, the ZF5 costs about a full month of wage. I’m no kidding. You can find a novablast 2 in about half monthly wage.

    Weight hasn’t been a concern whilst purchasing long run shoes. I figured a little weight shouldn’t hurt but should serve to strengthen my leg lift muscles. Whereas, I care much more about weight in my race days shoes.

    Weight is important, but not the most important. It can be however a discriminator between 2 similar shoes. For me: drop, overall stability, intented and real purpose (trainer, racer etc), efficiency

    Invincible is too big at the heel, like an elephant heel. this zoomfly looks just right for me. Nice green color too.

      I also never enjoyed the bulky heel of the invincibles. I'm not a heel striker but the heel kept dragging even at moderate distances. Going to give these shoes a try

    I'm disappointed with these shoes. I have the Zoom Tempo, Zoom Fly 3, Pegasus 37 just for comparison. Was looking to add another shoe to my group of daily trainers. Even though it has ZoomX and carbon plate coupled with a thicker midsole. It was not as responsive or snappy as the rest of those shoes mentioned. In fact it feels rather dead. The fit has also gone more generous around the arch and forefoot areas. Therefore arch support was barely there. The tongue also keeps running to one side which I do not like. With this iteration, the outlook of these shoes looks like a boat.

    This shoe is nothing like nike invincible run. If you where to chose betwine ZoomFly 5 and nike invincible run 2. I would 100% go for nike invincible run 2. ZoomFly is way to heavy in my opinion. And the foam is a lot harder then what you get in nike invincible run. for me this is the worst shoe of 2022 sadly. Just for information: I had about 100km in them. I was so happy to get my hands on them, Just to get very disappointed:(
