As someone just beginning to reintroduce a rotation to my shoe line in prep for marathons and races, I'm really enjoying the Saucony Speed. I'm not experienced enough yet to fork out for a Carbon Plated shoe, but I think this will work as a trainer/racer combo. Some people have told me plated shoes are also good trainers because they encourage better form. I do most of my daily runs in a Pegasus, which has always been a reliable shoe for me. If conditions are super wet on race day, I can always just do the run in it, I'll lose some time, but I've never had comfort issues with it, and as of now, most of my PBs were set in Pegs.
Just getting into being a little more goal oriented in my running workouts, I find the sheer selection can be pretty dizzying, but Nike Pegs have been good to me, and the Saucony line, in general seems to have a lot of solid shoes for different purposes. At the moment I'm not going to bother with the really expensive Carbon shoes like the Vapour Fly.
My plan through winter spring is to use Pegs as Daily Runners, and once it gets closer to spring, Saucony's minimalist Kinvera as a training tempo runner, and the Speed as my race shoe, occasional trainer. Are the Speeds completely useless even on dirt/gravel? Some of my country routes involve occasional forays onto such surfaces, not for too often or too long, but it gets you away from the traffic.
Have you ever run in the Saucony Kinveras?

Picked the Noosa Tri 14 as my speed day shoe for this year but recently took advantage of the season sales to also buy the Takumi Sen 8 and Deviate 2 precisely due to concerns over grip. I do a number of small, local, olympic triathlons every year and more often than not the running portion goes through some gravel path/fire road/sand and so I will be using whichever of those two turns out to be grippier.

I do pretty much all my running in the Speed 2s and I love them for their light weight and springiness, but now that they’re discontinued I don’t know what to buy 😢 I’ve done 250km in the Speed 3s but don’t like them as they give me arch pain (maybe due to softness) and they’re not springy. I’ve also got 300km in Puma Nitro Velocity 2 too and really dislike them, which puts me off the Pumas in the video.
Does anyone have any recommendations for shoes that might compare to the Speed 2s in terms of ride/springiness, high stack and preferably plated? 😅 Probably a bit specific :(

I also switch in my Kinvara 14s for when I want to run shorter sprints with a nice ground feel. Have you tried the Endorphin 4 series yet? Thoughts on Kinvara Pros? They seem like a quirky and fun shoe.

I bought Zoom Fly 5 few weeks ago and I am positively surprised. These are the first Nike shoes that I really like and feel comfortable using them. The weight isn't that bad. It is the same weight as Asics Nimbus 24 of the same size. Glideride 4 are few grams lighter, but still I run faster in Zoom Fly 5. If you don't run the race below 4:00 per km, you won't feel that they're too heavy.

Have my 2nd pair of the Deviate 1 and now trying the New Balance SC Trainers. I really like the Deviate and plan to purchase the 2. The Deviate have great traction, fit and last long…375 miles first pair and 185 so far on 2nd. Even ran the Atlanta half in the first pair when they had 250 miles because the course is very hilly and it was raining…great traction. I like th SC trainer but will no way get the same mileage out of them. Saucony are way to narrow for me in the forefoot and I have average d width feet.

  • @2100BLF
    @2100BLF Před rokem

I feel that the Deviate Nitro 2 might fit those with slightly narrow or average width feet better than the Speed 3, if anyone is after the fit like a glove feeling but decided that stuff like the Takumi Sen 8 is overkill/minimalistic. The Puma grip is also phenomenal on wet tiles. I just got the DN2 at a pretty good price though and generally from what i see it'd run noticeably cheaper than the Speed 3 in most countries/websites, just usd 99 on 365rider and UPS Express costed only like usd 10 to my country (actually i shared shipping with another shoe so that's only usd 5 in reality). PS. Colourway and overall design is the best out there of any shoe, IMO.....so that's another +ve point. Sometimes i use it as a sneaker during shopping lol.

Ive got the Deviate Nitro 2 and the Endorphin Speeds but not the Nike. It was interesting to compare the Puma's with the Endorphins since people have been saying they are very similar. Just coming back from injury so havn't used the Endorphins for a while. Went for a short run in the Puma's yesterday and really enjoyed them very comfortable if slightly on the heavy side. The Endorphins definitely feel much lighter on foot and have a more of a shoe that's suitable for racing. Fastest ? Nike Tempo Next ! I have the Speed 2 and Zoom Fly 3. ZF3 was my favorite shoe before other plated shoes were released. I think they are great for slower runs, they are quite comfy and have a good amount of cushioning. But I usually like to run faster so I now prefer Tempo Next and Speed 2. Speed 2 feels more natural but also offer less cushioning so #1 is Tempo Next for me .. at least for now. Also Tempo Next is relatively similar to Alphafly so it seems logical to train in a similar shoe as the one I will be racing with. The main negatives about Tempo Next is that they are not so great a slower pace imho and with all the cushioning and technologies, I'm not sure they are the best to help maintain a good overall fitness.

Interesting. So far in my research the Deviate Nitro has edged out the Speed 3. The feedback seems to be that the Speed 3 is pretty meh compared to the Speed 1, and the Deviate Nitro is filling in the gap that the Speed 1 left. So a bit surprising to see Ben going with the Speed 3 here, but it goes to show that different shoes work for different feet.

PUMA was the surprise shoe my feet enjoyed best, saucing was close Nike was a joke, the shoe made a popping noise each time I walked on a hard surface? I don’t know what it was put it was so bad I through them out, later to find out others were complaining about the same thing worst shoe I ever purchased

it's there mostly to give some stability. I'm not sure it does much tbh... :D but I can't really tell 100% because I rarely push it beyond 3:30/km.

The speed2s were great. But I have no aspirations to buy the speed3s, not at the current price. Nike, those are bricks. The pumas seem to be the potential winner as much love that they have received. Can't find them here in the U.S. to save my life.

I ordered another pair of Speed 2 on discount over the summer for when the current pair die (currently 400 miles), I’m sure I’m going to get much extra from the Speed 3.

@@vincewarne228 I literally just hit 400 miles in my speed2s this week. They are still in great shape but definitely not anywhere near as good as the were in the first 200 miles. Outsole is in excellent condition. I'm not a lazy runner so I'm pretty easy on outsoles. The midsole has become very soft. I can compare them to the midsole of my pro2 which have about 130 miles on them and there is a big difference. All in all still my favorite shoe and will keep them around for shorter faster stuff but anything over 8 miles leads to some foot and calf discomfort which I'm not experiencing in some of my newer tempo based shoes.

I think you confused the deviate nitro elite 1 with the deviate nitro 2. One is a racer, the other is the speed trainer.

Yes, I've messed up there. Picked up the wrong shoe for the video and Puma being still a bit new to me I didn't realise. Apologies.

The Zoom Fly 5 is a heavy brick with a Carbon plate. One of the worst shoes of 2022. The Deviate Nitro 2 looks good, going to grab me a pair soon.

Is this now becoming a comedy channel? "3 market leading plated training shoes, the Nike Zoom Fly 5..." is a good one, or did you mean to say 2 market leading plated trainer and one from Nike? ;-) Previous Speeds were too unstable for me, but the Nike Tempo works well for me, Speed 3 seems more stable but then the Pro 3 felt even better, but also much more expensive than the Speed which is not cheap to start with. I eventually got a Pro 2 with a good discount and use that as a speed trainer next to the Nike Tempo and (non-plated) True Motion Solo (which by the way could be a great shoe to review for you).
