If you look closely at the scene after she crawls onto land after headbutting Ben, you can actually see heaps of skin and her shed tail on the beach. Just like when their legs are fusing and they grow tissue between and their fins and such, they probably peel away their tail to grow human legs, and their scales to grow human skin. It would be extremely exhausting and painful, and require heaps of energy ...
Shawnna Sully they mention that it is very painful to change in one of the earlier episodes.
I for one absolutely love that they turned them into marine apex predators, not the sweet Ariel type (The little mermaid still is oe of my fav nostalgia Disneys though ;)). These ARE predators and I love the choice the creators made to use that
I might be wrong but before the little mermaid they were usually depicted as predators. Which is why I love the fact that despite who horrible POTC: Stranger tides is they got the depiction of mermaids pretty good.
It makes sense that they were depicted as predators before The Little Mermaid aired :) I too indeed like this aspect of this show^^

I love how they reached out to actors actresses we've never seen before, they didn't pick you know the A-List actors actresses the Hollywood actors actresses. They picked out people we didn't know or what movies they've been in except Ben "alex roe" he's been in 5th wave, only movie that was good

What I love is the way they depicted the "fish" tail. In the old days, when mermaid sightings were most prevelant, they didn't know that a lot of sea mammals weren't fish. I love that she has a mamilian tail, but also has fish aspects, and that that really plays along with the mermaid idea itself

Ryn's eye are really lovely. Unique. They make her look different and believable as a mermaid. You could believe that those eyes developed in the depths of the ocean

Finally! A tv show that depicts sirens or 'mermaids' as they are! Predators! I've never seen a serie or movie for that matter that shows them as I always imagine in my head, and now there finally is! The first two episodes did not disappoint at all ^^

Well its sort of realistic... its more based on its own lore then actual fantasy lore which is also fine... mermaids and sirens are different tho and these are more sirens then mermaids... or there evil mermaids...
Mermaids are actually a race like elves, dwarves and humans are and there peaceful and civil... or more commonly known by other races as mer folk/people
Sirens on the other hand are different... there are different types of sirens as well and 2 of them i know of is the harpy eagle and the sea siren
Sea sirens are actually more a beast or creature that takes on the appearance of a mermaid because there true appearance is ugly and monstrous like... they'll sing an enchanting song to attract sailors and pirates amd when close enough they'll drag them beneath the ocean to drown them and then eat them...
Harpy eagles on the other hand are a different kind of siren...there more of an eagle with the head or face of a woman...and they'll circle there pray from above and sing a song that'll make them sleepy.... once asleep they'll pick them up and fly them high dropping them and eating them...
Those are fantasy mermaids and sirens tho but as far as i know these sirens follow a different kind of mermaid that can transform there tails into human legs
