Es erklingt der fröhlich-tänzerische Marsch des italienischen Komponisten und Organisten Vincenzo Petrali (1832-1889). Geboren in Crema (Lombardei), bekleidete er von 1849 bi2 1853 das Organistenamt von Cremona und von 1853 bis 1880 an Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo. Dort war er auch zwei Jahre (zwischen 1880-1882) Kappellmeister. Er starb 1889 in Bergamo. Petrali galt als der beste Orgelvirtuose seiner Zeit. Seine Kompositionen für Orgel und Vokalmusik konzentrierte sich auf den liturgischen Bereich. Daneben komponierte er aber auch zwei Opern, ein Ballett sowie Werke für Klavier. Sowohl Petrali, als auch Lefébure-Wély in Frankreich, zählten zu jenem Typus an Kirchenmusikern, die sich offen zeigten für die Aufnahme und Verarbeitung populärer zeitgenössischer Unterhaltungsmusik, die wesentlich geprägt war durch die Opern von Rossini, Bellini und Verdi. Was früh noch als Bewunderung und Popularität gepriesen wurde, schlug bei Kritikern, besonders in der Liturgie, schnell in prinzipielle Ablehnung um. Ihre Orgelmusik werde weder dem Wesen der Orgel noch ihrer liturgischen Funktion im Gottesdienst gerecht. Mit zeitlichem Abstand lässt sich aber bemerken: sie sind typische Werke ihrer Zeit und besitzen dennoch einen bleibenden Reiz, den es wiederzuentdecken gilt.

The cheerful, dance-like march by the Italian composer and organist Vincenzo Petrali (1832-1889) can be heard. Born in Crema (Lombardy), he held the office of organist in Cremona from 1849 to 1853 and at Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo from 1853 to 1880. He was Kapellmeister there for two years (between 1880-1882). He died in Bergamo in 1889. Petrali was considered the best organ virtuoso of his time. His compositions for organ and vocal music focused on the liturgical area. He also composed two operas, a ballet and works for piano. Both Petrali and Lefébure-Wély in France were among the type of church musicians who were open to recording and processing popular contemporary light music, which was significantly influenced by the operas of Rossini, Bellini and Verdi. What was initially praised as admiration and popularity quickly turned into principled rejection by critics, especially in the liturgy. Their organ music does neither justice to the nature of the organ nor its liturgical function in the service. With time, however, it can be noted that they are typical works of their time and yet have a lasting appeal that deserves to be rediscovered.
