- Join me on a flight from Cedar Rapids, IA (KCID) to Madisonville, KY (2I0) for the "Beech Bash in the Bluegrass 2023". It was a great flight and a fun weekend with many like-minded people, with lots of Beechcraft airplanes, presentations, and a nice tour of the nearby Bard Distillery.
The next "Beech Bash in the Bluegrass" will take place April 26-28, 2024 - again in Madisonville, KY. More information and registration will be available here: beechbash.com

What a pleasure aviating with a consummate PIC!
It's been a year already!?! Well Leopold, the video (for those of us who weren't there!) was enjoyable and informative, as usual. I have to say though, that I was intrigued by the Thumbnail on YT for this video; because flying and whiskey always go together! ; )
Wait! Maybe THAT'S why "W" is 'Whiskey'! What an epiphany!
Nicely done (also with the goPro "heat shield")! Helps me greatly practicing ATC.
Danke dafür
Gern geschehen!

Always enjoyable to watch always I’m learning
Glad to hear!
- Martin
Very good
Thanks 😁
- Martin
Hi Martin ,you have a new checklist .Looks very good !
Yes - I am still fine-tuning the checklist since my recent avionics upgrade. I think I'm getting close.
- Martin
@@martinpaulyDear Martin ,can you send me the list once ,i want to learn from it for my Bonanza .The default lists are not good! Greetings Frank
@@54jackomo Hi Frank - yes, I have a downloadable copy (MS Word) on my website, to use as a starting point for making your own:

I was impressed with the communication coming into the traffic pattern. That is a fine example how it should be done at all times. If everyone is clear on what each pilots intentions , there's absolutely no guessing or assuming. I wish I could have come down to this event but just wasn't able to make it happen. Maybe next year I can plan to attend. As always thanks for bringing us along with you Martin.
Thanks for pointing this out, Kevin. I, too, thought this showed a good example of everyone who was there at the time aligning on how to proceed.
- Martin
@@martinpauly Yes it is definitely a very good example. I know some will say it's clogging up the frequency but I totally disagree if everyone has better situational awareness as a result.
That’s how we do down South. KDKX trained.
Martin, great video! Enjoyed seeing you for the second time this year (Sun N Fun and Beech Bash). Also was pleasantly surprised to hear my radio calls (N930AA) pop up in your video on the way into Madisonville!
Thanks, Matt. Maybe I'll see you again in Oshkosh?
- Martin
@@martinpauly Haven’t decided on whether Oshkosh is in the cards this year or not yet, but it’s a possibility!
Great visual effects - thanks for the ride.
You are very welcome!
- Martin
Such a fun flight Martin, your new panel is super! Thanks for taking us along.
My pleasure - thanks for coming along for the ride!

Martin, awesome radio work at the end of the flight, what a great example of airmanship. Thank you.
Thanks - I thought all the pilots talking at the end was a good example of everyone who was there at the time aligning on how to proceed.
- Martin
Calm professionalism. Nicely done. And thanks for sharing your talents.
Thanks for the kind words!
- Martin
I love to watch you before I fly, thanks Martin!
Thanks for posting a new video! Always enjoy them!
Glad to hear, David!

Hi Martin, Just a note to say thanks for the quality of your videos. I really appreciate all that you do.
Thank you for the kind words, Steve.
- Martin
Wow! That must have been a squeaky landing! Very smooth, Martin.... Thank you for letting us ride along. Rick from Tucson.
Thanks, Rick. Normally I make those super-smooth landings only when there isn't a camera recording... 😁
- Martin
Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure, Chris!

Martin, I preset my GFC600 to HDG (or NAV when on an SID) and IAS (say 120KTS) so after take off I just push the AP button and all is well.
Hi Timm, I have not tried to press IAS on the ground - I don't know what pitch attitude it suggests on the take-off roll and in the initial climb. What is yours showing?
The beauty of the GA/GA mode (activated with the TOGA button) is that the flight director comments a safe attitude for the initial climb (wings level, and in my Bonanza 7 degrees pitch up). If I activate heading mode instead, the flight director will command a bank towards the selected heading (at my home airport tower typically assigns 20 degreed right or left after take-off). I believe firmly that a flight director should either show correct guidance or be turned off, so I don't want it to show a turn until I actually need to turn (usually at 400' AGL).
Regards,
Martin
@@martinpauly I set it to a very comfortable 115 to 125 kts which is my typical initial climb speed. That’s probably like around 4° pitch or so. With HDG bug preset to a heading after take off, I can see that you don’t want to use HDG initially. I’d rather write it down as part of the clearance and do it when in the air.
If I would depart in IMC I would set the hdg bug on rwy hdg, preset the AP as I said, take off, activate the AP,climb to let’s say 500ft and initiate the turn to the assigned hdg with the AP on.
Top shelf as always, great pilot.
Thank you 😁

☑️👍👏
Love the video. Great piloting. Love the airport weather map idea too. Keep up the good work.
Thank you 😁

G,day Martin from Sydney Australia. Thinking of "jet wash" turbulence from the Airbus was good pilotage. I thought, a bit far away.
🛩️🛫
Great video as always Martin !
Thank you very much!

So you flew your bonanza to airport 2I0…… I’m thinking that should be where those of us that fly 210’s should meet!
I like the idea! 👍
- Martin
Great content and editing. Keep it up, please.
Thank you 😁

Great meeting you at the Beech Bash and another excellent video! Keep ‘em coming, we appreciate all the time you take making these! Was cool hearing our tail, #6668Q, on frequency during your arrival and saw my daughter in the bounce house at the end! LOL
Beech Bash was such a fun weekend, wasn't it?
Please tell your daughter thanks for the cameo appearance! 😁
- Martin
It was a very special type of fly-in, so well organized and just lots of fun overall!
I’m still trying to get used to 0TB without a six pack after watching the last few years!
Looks great though and I enjoyed the earlier videos on how you selected the upgrades.
It does look quite different, doesn't it? So much cleaner, yet there is so much more information available than before.
Regards,
Martin
As usual excellent display of fundamentals. If more followed your procedures Dan Gryder would have less to share with all the bad fundamentals. Shortcuts are deadly
Well, there's something to work towards 👍

Martin. At 23:53 in your video, i see at the top of your GTN750 six data fields. My 750 has 4 data fields, then the other 2 on the right side (by the NAV frequencies) are used by the XPNDR and IDENT. Can i eliminate the IDENT field and have it as a fifth DATA field? My avionics shop says that there are only 4 data fields, but again I see you having 6.
That's my #2 (bottom) GTN. The top one controls the transponder and audio panel, which sacrifices the space of some of the data fields. So no, if your GTN controls those devices, you are unfortunately limited to a smaller number.
- Martin
Good video!
Which headset are you using?
Thanks, Michael. The headset is called "Axis". More into here: martin.aero/wordpress/?page_id=321#faq-headset

Just out of curiosity, does your engine have the cooling baffles, when you went with the IO 550 B ?
All Bonanza engine installations have cooling baffles - some are better than others. When I upgraded to the IO-550B, I installed the baffle kit from D'Shannon (which is excellent).
- Martin
Martin, I like your channel but don’t spend a lot of time on youtube. Not a long while back you installed Avidine radios. Now I see that you have switched to Garmin. I wonder about your decision process for that and if you did a video about your thought process. Thanks.
Hi John,
Here are two videos which will probably answer your question. The first one is about my autopilot choice (Garmin GFC 600); the second one shows how everything else in the panel more or less fell into place once the autopilot was selected:

How readable is your checklist with black font on blue background at night?
I have had no trouble with it at night. I usually turn on the map reading light on the yoke if I have to read something.
- Martin
Martin - not in this video, but in others you have used a B-Kool. Do you still use it? Can you do a video on it?
Tell me about the big camera on the tripod behind you?
It's a camera. It's big. 😁
It points at the avionics screens in the radio stack.
- Martin
hi Martin how is your iPad mounted on the yoke?
Here is the mount I use:

I don’t get it. The Controller said decent to 10,000 and at pilot’s discretion 4,000? How does that work?
It means I have to descend to 10,000' right then and there. After I get to 10,000', I can decide whether to continue down lower or wait a little bit before descending further.
- Martin
@@martinpauly I see. Thank you for the explanation.
