I think we all knew the options were a safe pair of hands (Neil, Rowett etc) or higher risk with a younger manager and I like the fact they have gone for the latter. It shows ambition with a calculated risk.
As you say patience is needed but can't wait to get some players through the door and the season to start.

Yeah he had to hang his boots up early. I was going to cover all this but in the interest of time I decided to cut some of the earlier stuff out but I'm sure we will circle back to this at the weekend my dad is back and we do a more comprehensive overview.

I'll admit I didn't see this one coming but this is a fresh and exciting appointment. Clearly the owners have learnt from the Rooney appointment. There is never a guarantee of success who ever is appointed but hopefully he will be given time to settle and the tools to do the job.

I think this one caught everyone by surprise. I think the fact that 1,000 were vetted 50 interviews took place and we only had the best part of 6 leaks speaks volumes about how professional the process turned out to be.
Hopefully some exciting times are ahead for Blues and its fans :)

Fair play to the club. Apart from Alex Neil and Heckingbottom the rumour mill was really quiet this time. When you consider 1,000 vetted and 50 interviews that's impressive and how clubs should do business.

Yeah, I guess you are right. When you actually take a step back and objectively look at his CV it is impressive. I guess the calculated risk comes in as he hasn't been a first team coach yet.
I personally like this element as it means we are starting from scratch and can build back up with a completely new philosophy and playing style :)

CD has been an understudy to some top managers, as well as being in the game for many years. A young coach wanting to make the step up with years of experience in the game already makes for a shrewd bit of business in my eyes. Props to the club for learning their mistake and taking the time to properly interview the best possible candidates for the job. I hope this one pays off as we're well overdue due a bit of good fortune.

It really has been a miserable 13 years as a Blues fan so we are overdue some good fortune indeed. I have a really good feeling about this move. Hopefully, the calculated risk pays off but I like the club showing a bit of ambition and getting in a progressive manager.

Great news. He's just learnt from Ange, possibly the most attacking manager in the world. He' had 2 Big 6 appointments (Reds, Spurs). He has no doubt learnt from Ange in the last 12 months. Imagine Blues playing like Spurs. You may also get a loan or 2 from Spurs! I think he'll stand you in good stead. Above all i'm pleased you're going for ambition. You'll do well i'm certain.

We could have appointed a more experienced manager however whoever it was would have come with some baggage and all of the names linked were dividing opinion. This appointment however gives us a fresh start and we can now look forward to Chris building a squad that will start to challenge. We said exactly the same thing when appointing Joe Edward at Millwall Edwards coached at England u21 Chelsea & Everton came to us and only won 4 out of 20 games not everyone is a Kieran McKenna

Thank you for your comment Tony. There used to be an interview with the new manager shortly after the announcement however the club do seem to be doing things differently this time around, which I’ve been quite impressed with. I’m sure we will see an interview with Chris over the next few days. KRO
You’re right about grounding ourselves, for too long have I seen peoples opinions flip flop one game to the next just based on a single result. I just hope to have a bit of consistency, not just in results but a manager that will be here for a few seasons that can implement his own philosophy.

They have given him a four year contract so they clearly have confidence he can move the club in the right direction. @@SmallHeathAllianceFC yes very strange, given the squad we had and some of the skilful players that we had in it, it now seems to question the recruitment team.
Is Craig Gardner fit for the role? As Bellingham eluded in his post match interview you have to adapt to what the manager wants even himself playing in an unfamiliar way.
And if our players couldn’t do this then Craig may need to rethink his ideas on player adaptability. as Chris will have this in his make up and I guess he will be looking at this from today.

Let's all get behind Chris Davies. Now it looks as if our ambition off the pitch is being matched by our ambition on it! He's worked at some big clubs which is good for us. As an oldie I think it's great that we now have a younger coach and I just hope that he gets the chance to appoint his own backroom staff and also involves Steve Spooner (obviously a more mature coach, but one that clearly has a good relationship with our youngsters) a bit more than other first team coaches have done. Here we go & KRO :)

It's a really good question and I won't lie, I have no idea at the moment. I had only really heard the rumours surrounding Chris about 9pm on Wednesday. After I did some research I was excited by what I read and couldn't wait for the announcement.

I think most fans would agree with the notion of not really caring about how we get out of L1 but just to get us out and I think Chris will bring stability and the style of football the new owners want to provide.
I think we will tempt players with good wages (I heard today we are beating PNE to a player with a better deal), a club that has a long-term vision and goal and the fact we now have a new manager and can start afresh is great for the club. I don't think we will have any problem attracting decent players to be honest.

Getting promoted is often a 2 year project. Need to give a manager time. Big rebuild at Blues ?

Recruitment is crucial and we need to ensure we bring in the right types of players with the right character and attitude, as well as ability. KRO

We needed to go down we need a new squad a young manager and a full reset i think it will hugely benefit us getting relegated is never a good thing but ipswitch sunderland luton have all benefitted after getting bk up doffrence is we have lots of money lets enjoy this season

This sounds like a great appointment. I like this type of candidate as i am tired of the merry go round of rehiring old sacked retread managers. They were sacked for a reason but that never seems to matter in sports ie wayne rooney! How old is he? I just hope the players respect and listen to him!

Great points. He is 39 so young manager. I think he will command the respect of the dressing room. From what I've been hearing he is the type of man who when he talks commands respect. Let's hope this is true as the players that do stay will need a good old kick up the bum!

Well done Blues. This has a very different feel to the Rooney appointment.
I was extremely negative about Rooney getting the job and kook how that turned out. This appointment feels like a breath of fresh air.
This is a realistic and exciting appointment. A young and hungry coach/manager who will want to make his mark and he fits the blue print of where we're currently at and where we want to go and the club, manager and new players can grow together.
Those who are being so negative have to give this appointment a chance because it's been a long and lengthy process. Yes, there will be a number of different factors that will have contributed to his appointment, but this is a risk that is very calculated and I think will be a good return on the reward.
I'm super excited about the new season.

Appointing a new young manager like this is exactly what we need at this point. We needed a fresh start and although there are some fans who wanted a more experienced manager I’m sure they will get behind Chris Davies. KRO

Of course and it's been a disaster on the pitch this year but after Mowbray had to step down for his health we knew this next appointment was going to be crucial. Let's hope the calculated risk pays off.
In the meantime instead of waiting they have cracked on with £15 million St Andrews refurbs. The screens are a small part of it that has made the headlines due to social media but lots more is happening as well.

A good chunk of fans seem happy with the appointment from what I've seen and read. Of course, some are more cautious and have doubts.
I guess instead of going safe and steady with someone like Neil or Rowett they have taken a calculated risk with a younger manager.
Let's hope it pays off and good times are ahead.

Reserve judgement on this appointment ,does not excite me at all .Bottom line Blues need out of the division pretty damn quick .The current owners track record of dealing with the 1st team manager position has been pretty awful .
Thank you for your comment Michael. To be honest there is always a risk with a new manager whether experienced our a new young manager. However, given the names that were linked I’m personally pleased that Blues have taken this approach.
If an experienced manager was brought in they would have probably brought their baggage with them and also probably divided the fan base. This appointment allows us all to have a fresh start which is exactly what we need after the chaos of last season. KRO

Who gives someone,who has never had a managers job before,...a 4 year contract?...it seems that others they went for turned Birmingham down and the managers wages are so small they could afford to give him a 4 year contract....first Rooney & now this,...your new owners,..are they using Birmingham as some sort of foreign business tax write off?...to offset US taxes?..😮

I think that analysis is a bit harsh. If you look at his record and his involvement, he is a very solid choice. Especially as we are in League 1. It is a chance for us to start fresh and build back up.
It's very similar to Kieran McKenna at Ipswich which was his first manager role. He also had coaching roles at Tottenham and United but had to start somewhere. Sometimes it's a high risk for a high reward.
