    The 45 spring is 16lbs and the 10mm is 17lb, so you actually went lighter when you switched in the OEM spring. Galloway Precision makes a totally captured recoil spring assembly up to 24lbs for the 10mm. For what it’s worth, all ammunition you mentioned is barely 40 cal performance. So, shooting low performance ammunition in a heavy slide high recoil spring setup is begging for short strokes. Keep the 22 lbs spring but run a box of full power 10mm. Make sure it’s lubed properly as specified in the M&P manual and think about installing +10% magazine springs. That pistol has FULL chamber support, it’s worth the effort!

      @@Thearmchairoperator215 Great review. You are not the first to have experienced Mal functions. I'm glad I decided to buy the Jun 5 o'clock 20. They work great and with an aftermarket trigger. It's a good shooter, my only complaint with Glock. Their grips could be a little bit more. Tactile

      I appreciate this comment as I am contemplating a 10 mm purchase in the near future. I like the M&P line and owned a 9. I was a bit put off by so many mechanical loading issues with the 10. Your comment made a lot of sense. I spend time in the woods and mountains. I can't afford a gun I can't trust at any price. Thanks to you both!

      Isn’t maxed spring being 24lbs the best since it can handle all hot loads ? What would be the best?😅 Also to make a lighter trigger? And the mag spring? I’m new to this btw

    What you’re describing is not under powered springs or magazines but the ammunition profile. I fired a 10mm with multiple ammunition brands and all the cheap ones didn’t cycle properly. Federal,hornady,Speer worked the best and never jammed.

Second, your Pros and Cons of the weapon was outstanding. Especially the faults of the weapon and how you went about trying to correct the issue and explained the process. Good evening, ACO. Nice video. I, too, have this gun. I haven't put the amount of rounds you have but I haven't, as of yet, had any problems. I've had two in my M&P 10MM 5 inch. But those just on my last trip to the range. One youtuber had the same issue. He changed the spring in the magazine and since has has no problems. That's what I think would help more so than changing recoil springs. This might be what you need. I too really do love both of my 10MM's. Hope this helps.

      Has anybody tried contacting the Smith&Wesson about these issues? Shouldn't their customer service take these problematic pistols back and fix them? I know glock will fix glocks if u send it. I'm very interested in this pistol but damn, the failure to feeds is making me apprehensive towards it.

    Uhg crazy how so many pages never make a peep on the M&P 10mm issues and literally the day after i buy it, i keep getting these videos pop up discussing the same defects. I'll take her out for my first run this week.
    2 month later edit : the gun sucks. Jams, failure to load many times both magazines and different reliable brass. Magazine popped out once while shooting some 200g. The magazine rattles. The trigger actually became pretty clean though. Traded it in for a G20. Same original box of ammo and not a single failure. The glock will still fire even without a round thats how reliable it is

    I had the exact same issue. I first replaced the mag springs. I was better, but still had a few FTFs. I replaced the recoil spring With a 20lb ISMI spring and shot 500 trouble free rounds. Put the factory mag spring back in one mag and had 2 FTFs in 400 rounds, but only with that mag. I think it’s a combination of both too light recoil and mag springs. The feed ramp is pretty steep for the longer 10mm round and I feel it needs heavier springs. Since replacing the aforementioned springs. I’ve not had any further issues. Hope this helps.

    I love the honesty about the malfunctions. I was looking at this gun and liked it very much. I was going to purchase it. But the juice is just not worth the squeeze if it is going to malfunction. A malfunction could cost you your life. If you're hunting and get attacked by a bear and there's a malfunction... life or death moment! Having to purchase different springs or anything to make the gun function properly is inexcusable. The manufacturer should have all the bugs worked out before putting it on the market. Excellent video!

    The Penetration Channel also had the same problems. He put the 22pound recoil spring and he also put stronger springs in his magazines. It seemed to solve the problems for him. His wasn’t the performance center model though, it was the original 4.6” barrel. I did the same to mine based on how his changes solved it. I have the original 4.6” inch barrel too. I haven’t put nearly the number of rounds through mine that you have. I have about 410 rounds is all. So no failures to feed yet. His video on the solutions mentions the company with the mag springs he used. Good luck, I hope this helped.

    I changed the mag springs in my M&P 2.0 10mm (4 inch barrel) and that fixed my ftf...but mine were like you described...rounds would nose up into the hood. Stronger mag spring fixed that it seems. Only fired 100 rds since installing the new springs. This is my first M&P, so far I am like you...I want to like it, but I am not used to a new brand name weapon having issues like this out of the box. Anyway, hope it can earn my confidence back. Great review brotha! I have the 4.6 model with no thumb safety on it. I’ve had it for a year and I’ve been debating on doing a review on my channel and this popped up in my feed lol. I’ve had the gun for basically a year, I got it on Black Friday a year ago for like 50 dollars off. The gun in terms of ergonomics is amazing, I also love the suppressor height sights and the fact that s&w gives you plates for the dot in the box, and I love the flat face trigger but I don’t like the trigger feel a ton. I may upgrade the sights to the night sights and I am definitely going to put a trigger in it. I’ve only shot it twice since I’ve had it, and I haven’t had any issues yet but mind you that’s under 100 rounds. I got it as a gun for when I go visit friends in other states that have bigger animals, and when I’m out in nature in my home state. I’m going to go test it with some full power bear loads because I’ve seen and heard the issues it’s had. Some said it’s been fixed with the heavier recoil spring like you brought up. I love how the gun feels in hand, but I’m nervous about the gun and even if I test it and it runs the bear loads flawlessly I don’t know if I can trust it. I think I’m going to ultimately move it to a range toy or backup carry gun, but ultimately I will probably switch to a Glock 40 mos because I just need something in 10mm that I know will go bang without issues.

    • @Thearmchairoperator215
      @Thearmchairoperator215  Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you! I feel you on all of that. I will say the trigger on the performance is slight better than the trigger on the 4.6 or 4 inch models. One thing that I did not do, but will do in the near future, is run the gun with some hotter loads just to see how it runs. I have a Glock 20 gen 5 that might be my “go too” 10MM. I plan on doing another 10MM versus video when I finally get my hands on the FN510. I really like the ergonomics of the FN545, & I want to see how the 510 stacks up to my G20 and M&P.

    FYI - The S&W M&P 10mm M2.0 4.6" and Performance Center 5.6" pistols use the same 3.55" long 17-pound (17#) recoil spring assembly (RSA).
    Three suggestions:
    1) Wolff Gunsprings solid stainless steel guide rod and uncaptured 24-pound (24#) recoil spring for the S&W M&P .45 ACP 4.6" pistol.
    2) Galloway Precision fully captured stainless steel 24# RSA for the S&W M&P 10mm M2.0 4.6" pistol.
    3) Springer Precision longer stronger 11-coil magazine springs for the S&W M&P 10mm M2.0 pistol.
    I have the M&P 10mm M2.0 4.6" pistol, having purchased it in mid May 2022. I swapped out the weak stock magazine springs and the weak stock 17# RSA by late May 2022, after experiencing one malfunction during my first 214 rounds, a FTF. I was shooting Underwood Ammo 10mm Auto 200 Gr FN HCL at the time.
    Since making this quick, simple, inexpensive investment (less than $50), I've had zero malfunctions of any kind whatsoever through over 2,100 rounds of 10mm Auto ammo. She's been perfection.
    In addition to well over 1,400 rounds of various 10mm Auto 180 Gr FN FMJ range ammo, I've run well over 600 rounds of Underwood 10mm Auto ammo, ranging from 140 Gr Xtreme Penetrator up through 220 Gr FN HCL. I've also run 20 rounds of Buffalo Bore 10mm Auto 220 Gr FN HCL, and 20 rounds of Steinel Ammo 10mm Auto 220 Gr FN HCL.
    Included in my late May 2022 post-upgrade success, between Buffalo Bore, Steinel Ammo, and Underwood Ammo, I've specifically run 340 rounds of 200 Gr JHP, 200 Gr FN HCL, and 220 Gr FN HCL ammo with 100% perfect functionality. This was done while firing two-handed, strong-hand only, and weak-hand only. I've heard of some folks reporting unwanted / uncommanded magazine drops when shooting 200 Gr ammo (and heavier), particularly FN HCL Bear Defense loads... I've never experienced this through any of my 2,300+ 10mm Auto ammo rounds sent down range.
    This pistol is extremely reliable and accurate. She's very easy to shoot well, and she has great ergonomics. So much so that she replaced / retired my Gen3 Glock 20SF as my wilderness trail biking / hiking / camping large critter self-defense platform.
    I always thoroughly clean and properly lubricate my guns with every use - Basic Responsible Gun Ownership 101.
    Good things! 👍

    Had the same problem and did a little research online. Since you've changed out the recoil spring, the next logical solution would be to replace the factory under powered magazine springs with the Springer Precision Extra Power Magazine Spring for 15rd M&P 10mm. Took mine to the range afterwards and had no feed issues like before. I admit, I have not shot nine hundred rounds, but no feed issues compared to one out of every 10 rounds. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you bought this weapon for dangerous game (Bear) protection like I did, then your Buffalo Bore, Underwood and Doubletap hardcast offerings will most likely cause the magazine to drop from the gun while firing. Did my own probing and determined that most hardcast (but not limited to) rounds with 200+ grain bullets are larger in diameter than most standard 180 grain FMJ or JHP 10mm rounds. The bullet as it passes the cutout at the magazine release, pushes out on the magazine catch, which causes the magazine to drop. I spoke to a rep at Smith & Wesson about my findings and he said, that they only test with Federal FMJ rounds. I expressed that more than not people buy 10mm for woods defense and or hunting, so why didn't they test rounds like hardcast suited for that purpose. No response other than to tell me to only use Federal FMJ ammo. Hope this helps.

      All my other success with this pistol aside, I've specifically run 340 rounds of heavy 10mm Auto ammo through my M&P 10mm M2.0 4.6" pistol with 100% perfectly flawless functionality:
      - Buffalo Bore 10mm Auto 220 Gr FN HCL
      - Steinel Ammo 10mm Auto 220 Gr FN HCL
      - Underwood Ammo 10mm Auto 200 Gr Hornady XTP JHP, 200 Gr FN HCL, 220 Gr FN HCL
      I've done this while firing two-handed, strong-hand only, and weak-hand only.
      I changed out the weak stock magazine springs for Springer Precision 11-coil magazine springs in late May 2022. Same went for the weak stock 17# RSA, I changed that out in favor of a Wolff Gunsprings guide rod and uncaptured 24# recoil spring.
      Other than that, I always thoroughly clean and properly lubricate my guns with every use - Basic Responsible Gun Ownership 101.
      Good things! 👍

      There is no way I would ever trust this gun for anything. But just a range toy wouldn't trust it. For bear country conceal carry anything too many issues and problems. Smith and West and sadly, their quality control has dropped drastically over the last couple of years. I will never buy another product from them again. However, the Smith of my sent M and P57 is phenomenal.

Still not reliable. I just installed the Apex extractor although I haven't had a chance to test it yet. Ammo used has been mostly of the medium power variety (180 grain 1150-1200ish fps). Got an OEM 5" pro slide for the 1st gen M&P 9, and had nothing but problems. Light primer strikes about 10% of the time, and it would leave empty cases in the chamber. I'm not talking bulged case either, they would fall right out with gravity. Also couldn't feed flatpoint in a 10rd mag but no issue with a 17rd mag.. Luckily the Apex barrel and extractor fixed all my problems, but I wouldn't recommend any M&P pro series unless you're willing to drop a few hundred on aftermarket parts. It's my favorite handgun now, but what a pain in the ass.

      I feel you on that. I had a few light strikes too but I just chalked that up to the reman ammo that I was running. I will say that I have not had that issue since replacing the recoil spring and guide rod.

    It's a lemon. Don't waste your money on recoil springs. Something as powerful as a 10mm with a heavy recoil springs should function dirty, not be picky with ammo, and work with the provided magazines. Lube should be to reduce wear and not to make a gun work. Some guns do work reliably after some break in, but if I had problems after 500 rounds I would send it back to S&W and tell them to fix it. If the problems are due to manufacturing and not design their gunsmiths probably know exactly what they need to do to make it fire every time. My Sig P224 didn't work out of the box due to an extractor design problem. I sent it back to Sig and now it goes bang every time. My Springfield XDM Elite 3.8 10mm has gone bang every time right out of the box. My P226 has never failed to fire. I've bought and sold a lot of guns. If a gun doesn't go bang every time after a couple hundred rounds, I get rid of it. Probably the only failure in a pistol I tolerate is failure to lock open on the last round, because softer magazine springs are easier to load.

      @Thearmchairoperator215 Took it out to the range today, and other than one failure to feed on the first mag, I had no issues. Let me clarify! I chambered the first round just fine, fired once, and had a failure to feed with the second round of the very first mag. So, as I went to clear it, the magazine wobbled loose and came out. I didn't press the mag release. So, I'm chocking that up to user error on my part, either not having the magazine properly seated, or I may have bumped the mag release with my thumbs forward grip on the first shot. I shot 120 rounds through it after without issue, even trying to get the gun to fail. I still think the gun needs further testing, but man, is it fun to shoot! I'm optimistic about the gun but will remain vigilant in further testing.

    Im sure you already use a good oil so trying oiling just a little bit heavier. Take ya some oil and soon as you start feeling it get sluggish break it down and throw some oil to it and see how that is. 10mm is so temperamental from different ammo to this that or the other. Seems like you didn't get bad springs in the mags like s&w has been having probs with(wether they admit it or not)

    Good review. I'm a 10mm collector. There are several things to keep in mind with your S&W 10mm pistol. First of all, full-size 10mm and .45 pistols should have steel frames. Polymer frames are too light for these calibers, and cause uncomfortable, inaccurate shooting, especially for medium size and small guys. Full-size 10mm and .45 pistols should weigh 40-45 oz. with empty mags. The only good thing about your S&W 10mm pistol is the 15+1 rounds. The best quality, most comfortable, accurate, full-size 10mm pistols are Sig Sauer, Dan Wesson, Kimber, and Tanfoglio.

    OK, after maybe 400 rounds, I had a malfunction. Not a typical failure to feed, but fell under that category in end-result.
    So, the follower in the magazine can get hung up on the slot in the magazine wall where the magazine release catch grabs the magazine. I took 2 magazines apart and can easily get the follower to get caught on this slot. Looks like some minor reshaping of the corner of the follower would fix this.
    What happened was while firing a full magazine at the range, I got part-way through the 15 rounds and got a failure to feed. I took the magazine out and the remaining cartridges just fell out with no tension on them. The follower was stuck part-way down.
    Looks like all SW 10mm magazines have this potential failure.
    Let me know if this has happened to you.
    Thanks!

    The other m&p 10mm pistols have the same issues with reliability. It's honestly a shame because m&p was one of the best companies a decade ago. Instead of releasing a proper m&p 3.0 they decided to throw a flat faced trigger into the current 2.0 and didn't even improve the actual triggers internals. Apex designed an awesome m&p trigger over a decade ago and Smith&Wesson still hasn't even come close to matching it. I carry a m&p everyday but I view Smith&Wesson as a fallen company. Someone must have purchased the company or something because a decade ago they would have released a reliable 10mm. If they don't release a 3.0 at shot show next month im switching to walther pdp or something. Just my opinion. That's a cool looking gun though 👍

      @@Thearmchairoperator215 All I want is for s&w to do the same thing that walther did with the pdp Pro.... I want a compact optics ready m&p pistol that has a trigger like the apex trigger kit and a nice slim magwell for carry. Just imagine how well a pistol like that would sell 😳!! Most people that buy a m&p pistol adds the apex trigger kit so imagine if you could get the same thing from the factory! It would sell like crazy! The reason that they only added the flat trigger shoe and didn't change the triggers internals is because they want to sell a 3.0 down the road which is frustrating to me. S&W and Glock does tiny little upgrades at a time so they can keep selling new versions down the road. Walther might be the only company that's being honorable when it comes to features except for their plastic sights. I guess sig just released a 10mm compact which is definitely a good thing and I'm hoping that it'll get the other manufacturers to make g19 sized 10mm pistols. Sorry for the ranting 😂. I guess I'm just frustrated with Smith & Wesson. My dream gun would be a reliable compact m&p 10mm pistol. Unfortunately they decided to put a full sized grip on their 4" and didn't make it reliable 😒. Whoever is running s&w needs to be fired because it's common sense what we want. We want a high-end trigger not a metal frame 🤦. We want a 4in 10mm pistol that actually has a compact grip!

    So, basically you're saying it takes almost 200 rounds after it's cleaned to fail to feed right? So anyone carrying it for self defense or hunting should be just fine, cause they better not be going through that many rounds in those scenarios. I do get the dissatisfaction with it malfunctioning, I would be too.

  • @ultrageek01
    @ultrageek01 Před 4 měsíci +2

    Been in your shoes with other pistols. Yes, there is something that you can do yourself without sending it in. I would then put the original recoil spring back so not to throw the gun's rhythm off.
    1. Take a utility knife (hardened steel razor blade) and remove a tiny bit of steel where the feed ramp meets the chamber. Round it off at that point only.
    2. Take metal polish and a Q-tip (or something less fluffy) and polish the feed ramp in the direction that the cartridge travels. Be sure to get the entrance to the chamber.
    3. Thoroughly clean with CLP.
    Don't go crazy with the razor because you can't but metal back. Trial and error. Repeat as necessary.
    Eventually, you should get it from 99% to 99.99% reliable.
    Good luck!

      My SW M&P 10mm 4.6" came in (not Performance Center). I ran 145 rounds through it using 9 different ammo types ranging from 466 ft-lbs to 774 ft-lbs; FMJ, JHP, & hardcast. Not a single malfunction of any kind, and these were the first rounds fired from this gun. I think that the design is solid but the quality control at the factory may be questionable. I may have just gotten lucky. SW got me once on a different gun where they put threadlocker on a takedown screw instead of the bushing it goes into. First time to the range I had a round go off out of battery! I don’t think yours is beyond repair with the fix above.

    This gun has 2 major problems with the magazine: (1) short channeling ribs and (2) short feed lips.
    The first one leads to magazine dropping when spicy rounds with large cast bullets are used.
    The second one leads to FTFs -- this is what you are experiencing, and that is exactly why you saw zero difference using other recoil springs. Try shooting 40 SW through it -- I bet you you'll get stovepipes every 5-8 rounds or so. Basically, the short feed lips do not provide enough guidance for the round to get into the chamber, and the effect is exaggerated with the 40 SW, since it's basically a very weak 10mm round.
    S&W fudged up this gun real bad. And they won't acknowledge it. They'll take your gun in, test fire it, and send it right back. Oh, and they'll polish the feed ramp (I kid you not) 😂

  • @ICarry2Guns

    That’s the problem with 10mm. It’s difficult to get it done right something about that caliber makes it iffy only reliable out of a few platforms. Plus the give and take with 10mm is that it wears the hell out of the gun so so much faster than a 9. It’s the give and take with the gun

    • @Thearmchairoperator215
      @Thearmchairoperator215  Před 9 měsíci +1

      That’s unfortunate. Don’t get me wrong, 10MM is a stout cartridge. I get it, but even so, if Glock & Springfield can make a relatively reliable 10MM, so can other companies. Trial & error & all that I suppose. Hopefully S&W will correct these issues & give a better 10MM experience.

  • @CantoneseGoodNews
    @CantoneseGoodNews Před 8 měsíci +2

    I think the ports bleed too much gas for compensating the recoil and leaves not enough for the pistol to cycle. Using hotter rounds may solve the problem. 10 mm has too wide a range of loads (from water down 40 SW to spicy Buffalo Bore).

    THE FIX! I have the M&P 10mm performance center 5.6.... I love it, after 300+ rounds of incredible no issue shooting, started having feeding issues, ugh. Took it to the gun shop a couple different times no one could figure it out. A S&W armorer was brought in and eventually narrowed it down to the extractor. They spoke with the factory and it turns out that S&W has an issue with the extractor. S&W told us to go to Apex and buy their updated extractor for the M&P 2.0... 200+ rounds later no issues, it is performing well. it is called "APEX Failure Resistant Extractor" Yes that brings up a lot of questions on the side of S&W, 1) if they know that's the issue why not fix it??? Anyway, to those who are having feeding issues this could be your problem and fix. Good Luck

  • @jimschneider807
    @jimschneider807 Před 6 měsíci +2

    Sorry….didn’t have time to look at every comment. Check your extractor. Apex makes an enhanced reliability part to address this issue.
    My PC M&P 10mm had the same issue. I ordered the apex part, but while waiting, I reprofiled the factory extractor like apex does. Essentially, you bevel the bottom of the extractor to to allow the rim of the round to slide under more easily. About a minute with a file, and my gun is running noticeably better.
    Edited to add that I’m disappointed that smith hasn’t fixed this issue on their own yet.
    I usually wouldn’t have bought this gun knowing the issues, but I’m issued an m&p 2.0 9 for work, so want to match the ergonomics and carry over some of the training for my woods gun. I think the gun will run for me now…but it’s unfortunate I have to have this journey to get a working gun that trust.
