    Hi Trev. What would be the process to replace a queen in a full hive?

    Just made a nuc, hope its not to cold for them tonight in AK.

    When you have created your nuc, do you shift it to another apiary site so the foragers don't go back to the original hive?

    Hi Trev, this looks like a good solution to a split that I'm needing to do. Just one question... I'll need to place the NUC in the same apiary as the original hive. What needs to be done to stop the bees going back to their original hive from the NUC?

    HI Trevor, I am enjoying your videos very much, thank you. Where are you in NZ? And where do you get your supply of Queens from? Many thanks. Peter

    Could you have safely pulled 2 nuc splits from the double brood boxes? and do you always feed your nucs with sugar syrup after making them up, or let them feed on the stores you put in the nuc?

    Hi Trev, I'm making a split this Friday, they will be fairly strong with good brood and stores, the new nuc will be taken off site the same day. question I have is how long do you wait before introducing a virgin queen?

  • @successfulone1
    @successfulone1 Před 8 lety

    Thanks Trevor, and could you also do a video on how you harvest honey. I also want to know when do you stop taking honey off so they can get ready for the winter. How much of their own honey would I need to leave with them to see them thru the winter? Many thanks Peter.

    • @fishmut
      @fishmut Před 4 lety +1

      E M Howson ...old comment but leave as much honey as possible unless you want to feed the bees through winter, the honey left on is what keeps the bees alive remember that, only take what you need and leave honey on them unless your a professional beekeeper who had hundreds of hives and do this for a living . Bee colonies survive through keeping honey supplies in there hive naturally for the good of the colonies life.

    Thanks for the prompt answer, hope you don't mind the questions. I have one more, I had a hive that swarmed due to my inexperience and the hive left while quite strong has somehow become queenless and now has no brood, still has good bee numbers and stores. If I add a virgin queen to that will it get going once again? I'm assuming it will have no nurse bees

    Hi
    can you tell me where you got your suit. I think the design where the viel is kept away from the face is very good. I'm doing a split in a couple of days and will give your method a go.
    Great vid

    Hi Trev thank you for this, how long can a new colony stay in a nuc box? Also which season will you recommend doing this? Will a nuc colony survive the winter?

    • @livingadamman7994
      @livingadamman7994 Před 2 lety

      Depends where you are if you can over winter splits but it's stongly advised against. Make splits in the spring I think before the longest day and even after if you are using mated queens. And good brrod frames. I just made 3 frame splits with 2 new foundation frames in 5 frame wood nuc boxes and I put in marked caged mated queen in right away but leave it 10 days before checking. I move the nuc a fair distance away from doner hive 500 m + and change entrance directions. I make sure I get enough bees plus some to cover the 3 frames of brood I put in. Watch closely as they can go beserk filling up all the space in a matter of weeks during peak season.

    Gday trev how you travelling , as you can see i still refer back to your videos when i need an answer . I am thinking of making a split next spring , on another video from a guy here in aus rather than buy a queen what he did was look for eggs on the brood frame and let the bees raise there own , what are your veiws on this idea ? queens cost around 30-40 dollars here as i had to get a mated queen as my little hive went queen less for some reason or another dont know if i squashed her or she died or just nicked off . Anyway last inspection after 10 days she is laying well and the bees have calmed down a lot they went mental at me when the hive was queenless anyway hope your going well take care .

      @@EcrotekBeekeepingSupplies1 Hi trev the queen i bought was mated already and after 3 days she would have been laying so you may be right to get a mated queen cheers
