Hi from central Otago thanks for uploading this. Great advice and a fair call about management, but im curious, when you talk about double queening i assume the hive order would run from the base- brood, brood, excluder, super, super, excluder, then repeat? Isolating the queens but allowing the workers too mingle freely?

So something I have noticed with everyone that does two brood box in the winter is that when spring comes all the bees are in one box. For me that tells me everything I need to know. They seem to prefer single brood box. Yes double brood box makes it easier to not have to check them every week, but they store a lot of unnecessary honey in those two boxes. On top of everything, you can make more honey with single brood management, contrary to popular opinion. So saying all that I do single brood management lol

Millions of years of small bees don't lie? Artificial upsizing is a fact with disastrous effects ever since ... Add to that treatments, artificial diets and management breeding inconsistent with nature and you have the current shit show in beekeeping today...

well professional continental beekeepers get less work out of one brood box and more honey too - contrary to what you say. have a look into Dadant-frame sizes for Broodframes (also called 'jumbo') Nationals are too small and therefor work prone and management heavy..

Thank you for your excellent videos. I'm a Queen breeder who was about to sell my first batch of mated queens when Varroa raised its ugly head. I am using your excellent series of videos to make up my mind as weather I will go into production again. I have reduced my apiaries down to one. My hive numbers are also reduced to just 22. At the moment I don't have Varroa. I will use your excellent videos to help me manage when they do arrive. The resistance issue is a real worry for me. Thanks again.

I had a three deep hive this spring with 14 frames laid out . I prefer doubles as a larger hive will produce more bees than two singles and if you want a huge honey crop per hive it takes a large hive population . Average in Nipawin Sask area was 200lbs per hive this year and we have long winters and short summers so larger populations in the spring are a must
