- The FULL phone call (part 1). Chelsea football ace Frank Lampard phoned James O'Brien on LBC 97.3 to defend himself after being accused of letting down his kids.
Elen Rives was reported as claiming that the England midfielder was living in his £8.5m home whilst she was in a small flat with the couple's two young children.

@@Stangelycoloured What from this video made him seem unintelligent or 'not very smart' to you? Was it the points he made or was it his accents? I find the points he made perfectly valid. James made negative conclusions about Frank's personality based off of the print media. He is the host of a radio talk show so obviously these comments will influence his audience's perception of Lampard. The comments themselves are completely unjustified, as the newspapers were wrong. Lampard is still providing for his family and his kids are still living with him part time, as he and his fiance sort out permanent arrangements. In fact, he is a complete hypocrite, as he says it is important tohear both sides of the story, yet still makes negative comments about "someone who would do this." Even if he does not explicitly say this about Lampard, people still come away from his talk show with the opinion that Lampard is a scummy man. Now if you really think Lampard is being unintelligent when arguing his case here then I don't really know how to convince you he is intelligent. However, I have a feeling you think he is stupid simply based off his cockney accent, which many people associate with unintelligent people. It's a pretty judgemental and classist outlook on life so please consider what it was that made you write this comment. Did you fundamentally disagree with Lampard's points? Or did you hear his cockney accent, see a comment saying he is intelligent and then make the comment implying he is stupid, as are all other footballers?
He sounds like a complete thicko if you ask me....thst said if you told me he was the most intelligent player in football...

Apparently Lampard was really clever academically and has a very very unusually high IQ.

I have to say, if James O' Brien doesn't regret this ever happened, he's less of a man than I thought.
I've had to stop listening to LBC because O'Brien currently occupies the time slot I usually listen to.
Wish they would change his slot or better still get rid of him altogether.
I think a better option would be to rotate them to different slots each week. That would also give younger up and coming presenters a chance to get noticed in the mainstream and give us a break from those we don't particularly like.

I remember when this happened. Before it I never really knew what to make of frank but after it all I can say is frank is a stand up bloke and have nothing but respect for him. Good on yah frank 👍

The positive side of this is that it taught JoB a valuable lesson and the consequence is that he is now far more measured in his judgements of people. This was appalling and Frank acted as a gentleman. Certainly knocked James down a peg or two and deservedly so.

I'm not a Chelsea fan, and I'm normally a fan of JOB, but James was out of line here. Whether Lampard's personal life is in the public eye or not, he doesn't deserve to be challenged on how he treats his children by someone who doesn't know him and isn't in possession of all the facts. Mine too. To state that his partner couldn't cope with him ,& had left him & why is something few would admit . It is so personal. His action was selfless,too as he shelved personal pride because he saw how his, chosen public profile was affecting his sister,& he wouldn't tolerate such car crash 'news discussions' He showed real humility, & integrity,I'd be proud to have him as a brother. He made the DJ squirm & showed how ill informed, indulgent & conceited his 'journalism' is. Respect.
No, James wasn’t describing a news story. He read the news article then put his own opinions out there - ill informed opinions based on the tripe he was reading. Slagging Frank Lampard off and the most ironic thing about that is, if anyone says the SLIGHTEST THING that he deems to be negative about him, online or on the Radio, he blocks them online or gets really narky & cuts the call!

I'm an avid LFC fan. Lampard is not exactly supposed to be a favourite player but never have I had such cause to respect a footballer. Often they are arrogant, disrespectful and unaware of responsibility to set examples and work hard for fans who pay to watch them.Yet here is a man who explained his case extremely eloquently and more to the point did it HIMSELF which is something I respect very much especially as it was not foul mouthed.He seems a good man to me now and I take my hat off to him.
Lampard has 10 GCSEs from Brentwood School, not your archetypal thick footballer.

Im am so delighted that he defended himself like that - no one has the right to have their personal lives and reputations trampled on like that - if other celebrities like to read crap about themselves and their families in the newspapers, thats their choice. im no chelsea fan so im not gonna sit here and say how great lampard is because personally i feel he shouldnt start for england anymore and i never thought he was better than players such as gerrard and scholes. However, the bravery he showed in this interview, during such an emotional time, well i just have more respect for him than alot of other footballers and i have done ever since i heard this interview. An intelligent man and a top bloke, one of the best personalities in the game.
