- In this video I'll show you how to make your very own Chicken Tractor with the following benefits:
- Good for up to 12 laying chickens!
- Moved daily, grass grows back in 3 days in the summertime.
- Reduced feed costs with added grass diet.
- No dead grass or nasty spots in yard.
- No maintenance, fully treated lumber, should outlast your chickens.
- Easy feeding and watering system that typically only needs refilling twice a week (gassin' up tractor, ha!) and, doesn't need routine cleaning.
- Easy slide out egg collection and cleaning tray.
- 3 full width roosting perches, 2 inside shelter for cold and wet days.
- Back door opens completely for easy cleaning or feeding table scraps (save on feed, reduced waste)
- Easy to move, even for smaller adults (lift and lean back).
- Quarter inch galvanized fencing, keeps out predators, and also large insects like wasps and horseflies.
- Ensure your neighborhood allows for backyard chickens, or bribe your neighbors with all the delicious eggs you'll be getting.
My approximate cost to build without my labor included is $440 as of 11/30/2021.
This is my third version of my own design with inspiration from all over CZcams. My first build was done with untreated form boards from a concrete pour on the property and it lasted over 3 years! - Jak na to + styl
Mine is still going strong two years later. Awesome video, and awesome person for inspiring me to get behind my table saw and make something! Thank you!!
This is awesome! Is there a place to download the plans? Such great work!!
Hey, no unfortunately I don't have the plans posted anywhere. If you send me your e-mail I'd be happy to send it to you though!
Bout time.
How do the chickens get in and out🤔
Hey Clare, in short - they don't. With predators everywhere in my area, the chickens stay entirely contained in the coop/pen. They are moved every day for fresh grass access, which keeps their mess contained to a 4x8 area. If you wanted to modify it to include a small door, that would be simple though! Hope this helps.
@@harrellshomesteadwoodworks thank you was just curios
Are your plans available for purchase?
Hey, no unfortunately I don't have the plans posted anywhere. If you send me your e-mail I'd be happy to send it to you though! I'm building a set of 5 right now and changed the design a bit to use 1x4s to reduce weight.
