    Fencing holes are very big, weasel/mink/pine martens will get through and they are masters at getting into the coop if the door isn't very secure.

    Great concept, but $80 for plans is a little outrageous. Fortunately, I can probably build something very similar without them, but had they been more reasonable, I would have purchased a PDF set.

    Nice job! I built a Chicken Tractor that is very similar to this one. Wish I'd seen this video earlier because I like the siding you used and it would have made a big difference in the weight.

    The scoop would also be great for pheasant, quail Etc even rabbits, although you would have to put wire on the bottom of it for rabbits.

    That seems pretty well thought out. If I ever get me some chickens I might try to build or buy something like that. Although I think I would like to figure a way to make the cleaning even easier. I like the concept and am impressed at the attention to detail. The vinyl floor for example. That sounds like a nice little detail. So does the ramp that doubles as a door.I also like that the ramp has steps on it.

    HI there from NZ. The chicken coop looks great but I CA hardly hear you and you put some rock music over the top. The Music sets the scene at a nightclub not out on a farm with a chook coop. Thanks.

      Cheers for this, been searching for "backyard chicken coop plans" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Machaaldity Coop Blaster - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my partner got cool results with it.

    Save money by getting rid of that stainless steel axle. Just run the appropriate size bolt through the corners and the wheels. 4 to 6 inches I'd imagine. Maybe add a corner wedge if you want more strength.... just sayin

    Question and comment:
    How do you keep predators from burrowing under your tractor/coop?
    I think the squared off perches are uncomfortable for the chickens.

    • @lukerogerss
      @lukerogerss  Před 5 lety +1

      I’ve never had a problem with anything digging under, and my customers have never told me about anything of that nature either. I tend to believe that wild animals don’t want to be caged up in a confined space so they stay away from that. The square roost doesn’t effect them at all. They love the coop.

    • @maxe381
      @maxe381 Před 5 lety

      Chickens don’t usually grip where they perch like you would imagine smaller pet birds doing. That’s why the square perch is fine, I used a 2 x 3 or 4, or you can use a variety of natural branches too. Every area has different predators. My chickens roam my yard freely all day. The most I have to worry about is hawks or buzzards, but the tree in my yard provides some coverage and my rooster does a great job of alerting the hens to danger

  • @iwantosavemoney
    @iwantosavemoney Před 8 lety +1

    the wheels on the in side might get a chicken ran over. but, I do like it really like the idea of using a trailer dolly to move it around.

    • @lukerogerss
      @lukerogerss  Před 8 lety

      If the chickens are raised in this coop, they will walk with it while you are pulling it. You don't pull the coop that fast, so generally there is no need to worry about killing a chicken.

I had 24 in the same area and I dealt with feather pluckers, aggression and they stripped the ground down within 2 months... I understand having to contain them, but realistically, you have to keep them happy, and occupied, mentally.

    • @marienamer
      @marienamer Před 2 lety +3

      Because the chickens will easily eat the grass and dig up the lawn as well as leaving lots of droppings. By moving to another space you have fresh food and a fertilized area with time to recover.
