With the "Submit / Save" button, what happens when you've got 2 forms on the screen, one that is being filled/edited and one that is pulling information from another list. Is there a way to make it so the user only sees the form you have created? Right now when, for instance, a user clicks a button to add a list item the for opens but it also shows the quick launch menu to the left of it. I would like to make it so all they see is the form (to prevent them from digging around the site when they do not need access). Thank you again!

    Hi Shane! Thank you for your direct, clear, plain language explanations of how to do all things PowerApps! I do have a question about this process. So, I have an app with a Browse, Details and Edit screen, where an icon on Browse allows for the Edit screen to go into New Mode and an icon on the Details screen puts it in Edit Mode. The Add mode works fine - puts in my Hint text or blank fields. The Edit mode however does not show the contents from the Details screen, but the blank fields and/or Hint text! Now, I can play with the Default field of each card and make it display the actual contents of the field, but then that field doesn't show Hint text in New any longer. It's like I am not toggling correctly between content in New vs content in Edit. I probably broke it somehow but now cannot figure out how to fix it - I've gone over and over the fields and buttons and they all seem to be set up correctly. I feel like I've messed up my Default fields, but can't figure out how. Can you help?

    • @ShanesCows
      @ShanesCows  Před 4 lety

      I would say step 1 is start with a blank app and try again. 😀 See of you can get that to work then come back to this app and fix it. Remember making an app from data will also set this up for you so you can see it in action.

    Excellent video. Is it possible to keep the data inside the text and drop down fields after you submit? This would keep the end user from having to refill out the fields if they are needing to add just a few new details and submit a new entry to a Sharepoint list.

    • @ShanesCows

      You could set the fields to default to a variable. Then have the submit form update those variables so you see those values after the form resets.

    I have a problem with forms that i cant find my way around it, i want to save my form using SubmitForm() and in the form there is a DatePicker control which i set its DisplayMode to View and DefaultDate to Now() which gives users the current date and they cant mess with it. When a user want to save the data they entered, powerapps returns an error message saying in the Date field, it expects a string. Im guessing that the date is in numerical format. I have a form with a data grid (not a gallery) as my menu from there I can select a record, open, edit and save, however if I create a new record, I can open my form and enter details, when I hit my save button the record saves and it goes back to the previously selected item from the data grid as the form source from the grid, any ideas I want it to hold the record I've just saved,

    I figured it out myself, but I prefer to learn from you. Perhaps a video on How to filter data by date (I use Excel and OneDrive Business). Also how to have a navigate screen to filter the data on page where the gallery is stored, then filter that second page by date. As I said, I figured it out, but I was disappointed to have to find several different (more difficult to understand) sources for that info. What I have is an app where I manage my student's assignments. (I'm a homeschool teacher). On page 1 I choose the student, then navigate to page two where my gallery is stored. On that page, I have a "today" button which is the default. So after a student picks their name on page 1, page two automatically shows their assignments for that day. I added a "yesterday" and "Tomorrow" "button" (icons) as well. I'd also like to figure out a print function (if that's even possible), but you may have that in one of these videos. I have a few more to watch today.

Whenever I edit a selected item from the gallery and save it on the next "Edit-screen" created by me (containing an edit form), and after editing when I press the save button (which does a simple SubmitForm()), on the "Edit-Screen", it shows me the details of the first element from the gallery. Good afternoon, I have got my form working nicely where the save button updates the datasource and changes are displayed in view mode but only when the item property for the form is GalleryName.Selected. However, in one of your previous videos I watched, you said to not use GalleryName.Selected but instead to set the gallery item as a variable. When the item for the form is set as that variable, SubmitForm saves the changes back to the data source but those changes are not reflected in the ViewMode of the form until the user goes back to the gallery and re-selects the item again. Is there any way to refresh the variable and/or gallery so that the user does not have to manually go back to the gallery?

      Hi@@ShanesCows !
      Thanks for the reply.
      It seems that the Apache Impala(incubating) connector is the open source, native analytic database for Apache Hadoop. Connecting to your Impala database only reads data from tables. Thus we cant have a Edit Form because the connector doesn't support writing back to the database.
      Could you shed some light on this ?
