- In this segment from our online Breathe Course (www.thebreatheinstitute.com/tbionline), one of our outstanding Medical and Research Assistants, Gloria, shares her own functional frenuloplasty experience, from pre op through post op.
This was really reassuring. I need to get this procedure done and I’ve been a little worried
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have my procedure in 3 weeks.
I recently realized I had a tongue tie. Proceduce scheduled for next Monday. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your experience with this procedure!
How did the procedure go? Im still kinda worried
Thank you for sharing this. This coming Wednesday I'll be having this kind of treatment and watching this video just made me feel better. Honestly I'm nervous about it and this video really help a lot. Thank you
So glad to hear, and best of luck! Ee would love to hear about how your procedure went! Is pre and post op myofunctional therapy a part of your treatment plan?
I ma not speaking clearly after surgery (may be because of sweelling)....how much time it will get to back on track..... ???
What is the myofascial treatment?
Myofunctional...
Thank you so much for sharing!
Did anyone else experience a dry month?
This was truly so informative! I’m having this procedure done tomorrow and as a vocalist I am really nervous about it, could you advise me on how you learn to do the stretches and exercises?
Myofunctional Therapy is critical, as is suturing after the procedure. Be sure you look up a Myofunctional Therapist who has taken the MyoMentor Program with Sarah Hornsby recently, or our MyoMasterminds Program as they will for sure be familiar with the safest ways to perform myofunctional therapy both before, and after the procedure to optimize healing, results, and minimize chances of over stretching and popping sutures or causing more pain by over stretching.
I’m also a singer! Random question but did your vocal tone change at all? Something i’m quite worried about 😢
I had mine revised yesterday and while numb on my hour drive home, I sang the entire way. I found my vibrato was more genuine and my chest voice was a lot more comfortable and of a bigger range before I flipped to head right at the top of my range 👌🏼
Really interesting to hear about glossectomy I haven't heard you guys mention it in any of your presentations perhaps I missed it. Would be interesting to hear the current thoughts on the matter.
Thanks for your question, we generally do not suggest glossectomy, because we have found that tongue-space issues can usually be addressed more conservatively with expansion, myofunctional therapy, functional frenuloplasty etc. If you can avoid removing parts of your tongue/body, we feel it's worth exploring those options first when possible.
I got this procedure done last Friday
How you feel about it ?
Are you working with a myofunctional therapist as well? This is critical to achieving optimal results.
Thank you for sharing this!! My tongue-tie release with you guys is on Wednesday and I was nervous and freaking out watching the procedure videos, but this helped me a ton! Thank you, Gloria!!!
mine is on 2/15/22, keep me updated on how yours goes!
@@kathrynseavey2085 It went well! Quick, easy, didn't feel a thing. Day 2 or recovery today :)
@@ServingTheTeaWithV Aww good! Glad to hear that!
Guys, can you help me to inform that how many cost the surgery wiil be taken?
@@farooni It depends on your dentist, dental insurance, and medical insurance. The actual procedure itself I think is $1,300, but with X-rays, sleep tests, myofunctional therapy, etc it can cost up to $10,000.
So you guys say sometimes “epiglottis collapse” would the tie release and therapy help with that along with MMA or an expander or would that be a separate surgery?
Please let me know which option is better for better post op healing as tomorrow I there is a surgery for my 5 year old kid and we are confused either we should opt for laser or blade cutting ! Please suggest the best one so that she can heal sooner
Hey there! Thank you for making such a thorough video on your experience! I just got mine done yesterday. I notice that I have lost of taste on parts of my tongue - how long did it take you to get your sense of taste back?
Im experiencing the same problem how long did it take for it to come back
Hmm, sorry to hear you are experiencing this. Losing some sense of taste may indicate that your release provider went a little too deep and nicked a nerve or other anatomical structure that they should have avoided. Depending on the severity, taste should return after the nerve has a chance to regrow etc. Feel free to reach out to our office of course with any questions! Hello@thebreatheinstitute.com
Can you please tell me how much it cost you for overall treatment?
I have a wicked tounge tie . No speech problem but I'm 23 and recently I've had issues. I go from being fine to feeling like I'm instantly choking . Got a doctor's appointment Tuesday . May not be related to tounge tie but I have trouble swallowing as well and I have to sleep in certain positions to feel like my throat is open .
Omg did you ever figure this out? I’m having the same exact problems and I’m spiraling trying to figure out if it’s jaw surgery I need or tongue tie release
@@Joey-ki7zr Why not both?
@@featofclay2295 legit getting both. I have condylar hyperplasia so my lower face and teeth are slanted and crowded. A mess. Starting my jaw surgery path in March
I had my release done today. I have less tension in my head neck & shoulders. I also had problems with not being able to chew and swallow large things like meat. I would get choked and sometimes bring it back up. I’m in pain trying to do the exercises. I think it’s a little to soon. Hopefully everything will continue to get better. ❤
What is the difference between the photos - right and left?
As a singer I have a tongue tie would you suggest this procedure?
Hi friends, can anyone please tell me how much it costs?
Thank you for the video. I got my posterior corrected on Thursday using the procedure that requires snipping and not laser. I was beginning to feel worried because it seems like my tongue is shorter and has less mobility and I feel like most of my tongue that was released is in a separate lump below my tongue. But I guess that’s the swelling and granulation. Hopefully it heals properly and I’m looking forward to being able to eat and move food around a lot easier and not having to down 2 glasses of water with dinner because I can’t move the food properly.
I need that
For an adult frenectomy done at age of 32. Is it possible to lose speaking ability after the surgery?
Not in our hands for sure. The procedure helps many folks speak more easily and clearly if anything.
How many days will the swelling subside after the tongue tie sargery.
Should begin to subside within week or so!
questions, were you able to roll your rs better now? also, could you speak properly after the surgery within a month? My girlfriend is suffering from a tied tongue, but she is an opera singer who have problems with her rolled Rs, so we are curious about this question.
thank you so much.
im 15 and my tongue tie is really really bad but my mom refuses to let me get the surgery, shes known ive had this my whole life, i wish she got it done when i was 1-3 or so. when i turn 18 im thinking about getting the surgery
Explain clearly to her the most posible side effects, longer face, mouth breathing, crowded teeth, headcjaes etc... do something for you, a big part of my life has been ruined by this,
Im turning 19 this month and im getting it done in may i can’t stand it anymore
How much
Hello, I know this is 2 years old now. When I was born, the doctor told my parents I was tongue tied but he did nothing about it. My brother was born a year later and he was tongue tied as well, but his doctor cut it at birth.
My mom told me she thought I had cut it by getting it caught between my two bottom teeth, but I am still tongue tied. The worst feeling I get is the pain around it if I were to try to stretch it too far. Yes, I have had trouble with the R and L. I cannot say rural or cellular.
I had never known that it causes sleep problems.
Did you remove your tongue tie?
Hey guys, this video is pretty useful as it shows progress everyday. I'm on Day 4, and I still cannot put the tongue on the roof of my mouth by opening mouth wide. I remember just after the cut it felt really good, but after stitching, it became how it was before. Is this normal?
Thanks for your question. Wound contraction is one of the phases of wound healing. With properly supervised orofacial myofunctional therapy pre-and post-procedure, you will achieve and retain the best tongue mobility results! Is Myo a part of your healing process?
@@TheBreatheInstitute I've just enlisted the help of a local (Zaghi trained I believe) Myo. My lower jaw did come forward, but the maximum comfortable stretch doesn't touch roof of my mouth.
@@Kbgoda1 i am in exactly the same situation as you are i'm at day3 after the procedure and i feel like i havent actually gained mobility i can't touch the roof of my mouth when i stretch and when i stick my tongue out it doesn't go out further than it did before the surgery . Did it get better for you after the myo ??
@@mehdimouss7977 Yes definitely, I can now touch the roof of my mouth, no myo required. Give it a few months for it to fully recover and gain mobility
@@mehdimouss7977please share your experience now.
Does the Frenum of the tongue grows back after surgery?
Sometimes it will heal right back shut as it was before, mostly if you’re not doing your post op exercises or myotherapy.
They mention this in day 10 of the video.
How can i contact you guys for more information ?
www.thebreatheinstitute.com or hello@thebreatheinstitute.com Hope that helps!
how far were you able to lift your tounge up at day2? I am day two but I am unable to raise my tounge up to the spot. And if I stick my tounge out its not massivly elongated at all. the bottom part is very red and swollen? do you think my doctor didnt go deep enough with the release? how do I know if I am still tounge tied? (I am doing myo prior and started today again)
How is it now? I just had mine done 3 days ago and was experiencing the same thing but as the swelling went down it became a little easier. Hopefully you have more range of motion now!
exact same thing here i'm at day 3 how did it go for you after ?

The picture on rt side looks like b4 operation?
You said you were able to speak clearly from day 3? I'm a voice actor, and I'm scheduled to have this done next month, but I'm really nervous that my speech will be permanently affected. I'm 2 months into myo therapy.
How did it go?
What are the manual stretches? I don’t see a myotherapist but I was given some stretches by my dentist to do, such as “cave suck” and moving my tongue certain ways. Are these the kinds of stretches you are referring to, is it something done with your hands, or is it something entirely different?
Bro how did you manage that? And are you able to speak properly now?
@@CharteredMates Over time I was given more stretches to do, both before and after the surgery. The key was being consistent with them. I never struggled to talk besides the very first day, just because it hurt. Now my tongue is fully healed.
@@GameGoodness321 Thanks.
Is it necessary to consult myotherapist?
And Whether Myotherapy and Speech therapy are same?
Also please tell how much time it will take to recover?
when did you start exercising the tongue? Got my released 18 hours ago and didn't do any of them because it hurt too bad. I am worried that I waited too long
I’m not her but I heard her say she tried but it was too painful on day 4 or 5 so she didn’t really start them until day 6 when it wasn’t so much pain
was it too late? i got mine 10 hours ago and i was told to not start stretching today, to only just make sure i talk a lot and i can start stretching day 2. i got sutures tho, and i wanna ensure i can retain full mobility

Hey does licking ice cone cause lip tie and tongue tie in teenagers?? Pls reply!!!
Dont think so
Definitely not, in fact licking an icecream cone is a good stretch for your tongue. If it is difficult to do so however, it can be an indication of a possible tongue-tie.
I had done my toung tie surgery 40 days ago..
Pain is zero..
But speech get worse than before...
Is it normal...
I'm too worry about it help me!!
Sorry to hear you're having this issue. Our protocols at TBI ALWAYS involve pre-and-post operative myofunctional therapy. This promotes optimal results, as without, many cases can scar back down, and indeed ultimately become worse than before. Feel free to reach out to us at helo@thebreatheinstitute.com and we can assess via zoom etc, and discuss options if you would like.
A u fine now .... I m getting the same ...
Im on day 10
Are you able to at 2nd day ??
You can eat the same day as the procedure even, but we recommend taking it slow, and not eating crunchy, or hard, spicy foods etc. Avoid things that you would't want to get in a paper cut.
Does it make the tongue longer, I want to improve my kissing game

@@TheBreatheInstitute thanks! no my oral surgeon didn’t mention anything like that. i’m doing good now though. the tongue tie is definitely still there though, apparently it was really like deep in the muscle so the doctor didn’t really clip it all. i don’t notice a big difference but it’s fine now.
@@Thevirginmary123 glad to hear youre feelong better, but theres a reason our functional approach to frenuloplasty is becoming more and more popular globally. By working with an oral myofunctional therapist, and being extremely conservative in our technique, we can endure optimal post op healing, and overall results.
