The contrast of the dreamy abstract alcohol inks and sharp, pleasing metallic shapes in Julie's piece had me mesmerized and I knew I had to try it for myself! Thanks Julie for the permission to make this tutorial based off of your art.
We are starting off with a lot of black and a touch of pink. We begin by building texture in the middle of the screen using various color changing brushes. The Heavy Bleed Blender comes out to blend inward for a faded look.
As always, I've created a new layer for the metallics, first focusing on a layer of light metallic accents here and there - tracing a few areas of the abstract textures. I use the Foil Liner and Ultra Fine Glitter brushes for this.
When I'm ready to create the geometric shapes, I use yet another layer and again start with the Foil Liner. I draw all my desired shapes first, and hold my pen on screen for a second after drawing so that it snaps into a straight line or the desired shape. To get a perfect circle I draw the circle, hold the pen on the screen for a second, then also put my finger on the screen while still holding the pen down. Just like the piece I am taking my inspiration from, I am drawing two triangles and a circle.
Once the shapes are created, I use the standard Medium Hard eraser brush that comes with procreate to erase parts of the shapes, so that it looks like they are weaving in and out of the abstract, textured center. I then go back to the Foil Liner brush to add small embellishments for visual interest.
    A Few Tips:
    - With the Ultra Fine Glitter brush, the harder you press during application, the more scattered the glitter will be - whereas a light, straight line will concentrate the glitter more in one area
    - When creating your triangles with the Foil Liner brush, don't be concerned if your lines are a bit wonky. Just keep the pen on the screen for a second and it will snap into a straight line. Until you lift your pen and release the shape, you can tighten, straighten, and rotate the shape to your liking.
    - Similarly, to achieve a "perfect circle," simply hold your pen in place at the close of the circle while touching the screen with your other hand

    Hi Alaina
    Loving the tutorials !
Just purchased the alcohol brushes and getting lots of inspiration from following along with the tutorials. 👍
Is it possible to show your process of how you could combine conventional paint(oil/water cooler or ink) and alcohol ink to create artwork ?
Any reason. why you don't use textured paper with alcohol ink?

    • @AlainaJensen
      @AlainaJensen  Před 2 lety

I'm glad to hear you're loving the tutorials! The reason I don't used textured paper with alcohol ink is because in "real life" the paper used for it (yupo and other synthetic paper) is not textured - it's smooth and nonporous, basically the opposite of watercolor paper, almost like sheets of plastic.
Thank you for the tutorial suggestion! I'll be doing mostly acrylic pour tutorials for the next several weeks but will add this to the list for ideas once I've completed that series.

@@AlainaJensen Thanks - this makes sense! - also I suppose the stamp design creates a lot of texture in the artwork (I only realised this when I watched more of your videos 😮 ). Thanks for the reply. Keep it up 👍

@@AlainaJensen Thank you! I just saw the set and it’s beautiful. Unfortunately it doesn’t fit with my kind of art style. :(
If you ever sell the foil liner brush separately, I would love to know! Thank you!
