I’m 30 years of age and I read the novel for the first time recently. I’ve also got this strange obsession about visiting Norway 🇳🇴 Dahl’s work was a masterpiece in terms of simplicity yet this brought it to life for me
They don't make kids movies like this anymore. This movie was proper creepy. These days movies are all glitz and glamour and cheap easy entertainment

I've always imagined the witches secretly putting an off-screen curse on the baby such as turning him into stone, giving him a disease, turning him into an animal etc.
The Law of Attraction works, even when I didn't realize it. I saw this movie, then bought it, because I thought Angelica Houston was so fine. Anyway, I kept watching it, and I ended up in a relationship, with a woman who looks somewhat like Angelica Houston.

I never noticed the purple eyes on Angelica Houston the entire movie, except for the parts where they highlighted it due to the poor quality, not that I see it, looks so beautiful!!!

That's not actually 'her' baby, but it is her charge. She's in a nanny's uniform. I'm from a UK city where a lot of the nannies to wealthy families get trained, and they're often seen around the place in similar uniforms. Definitely not everyday dress and the filmmakers wouldn't have intended it to be.

It's not a remake: it's an adaptation. The term remake refers only to the new version of works of art born as movies :)

I got a mini book of this from McDonald's and it had activities and it said "maybe being turned into an animal wouldn't be so bad, if you could turn into any animal what would you like to be? and it had a little square at the bottom where you could draw and I drew myself as a kangaroo, I really would like to be a kangaroo that way I could jump really high.

This *exact* coat is part of the uniform - in winter you will see these young ladies around and about with it on. In any case, the distinctive hat would give it away. No possible doubt this woman is a nanny, if you knew what to look for. Ask yourself, why would a mother on holiday be wearing a clear uniform, anyway?

Wearing coats, and gloves in the summer. My memory from the book was when the boy had to climb a tree to get away from a witch...I forgot why they were always holding their faces.
They were holding their noses because children smelled like dog’s droppings to them.

Practical effects are boring and have no character to them. Not to mention, they are so poorly done that it makes it quite obvious that you are watching a movie. You can literally see a wire at 1:06 . CGI is much more clean and takes more talent and presents an other-worldly feel. You old-heads will complain about anything and everything. The world grows and advances for the better whether you wanna hold us all back in the past or not.

I was born in the year it was released 1990 on the 4the January and I would cry because it was so sad and because I watched when I was four 1994 because I would get nightmares

Its still a little unrealistic that no human hotel employees heard a window crash and raced outside within 15-20 seconds. Not sure if Dahl had an explanation for that or not.
