- Actor Wes Studi heard that director Michael Mann was putting together a little bank robbery picture called Heat. According to Wes Studi himself, he proactively called Michael Mann's office to land the role of Detective Sammy Casals. His passion for the character and project led to his Last of the Mohicans director casting him again in another great role that allowed him to show off some range. This allowed Wes Studi to go beyond the “leather and feathers of period dramas” even though he excels in those too. He stole the show in Best Picture Dances with Wolves and his character didn’t even have a real name, the credits call him “Toughest Pawnee”. And he is probably the only actor who can get away with asking Daniel Day-Lewis to sign his autograph... with his left foot. He has worked alongside some of the most talented artists in the biz and made sure to thank them when he technically became the first Native American to win an Oscar. Upon accepting his unholy golden idol, he received a standing ovation from his peers and colleagues, who finally recognized this man’s work. Iconic Native American actor Wes Studi, perfected his craft by embracing his personal and ancestral history. Using his like experiences, he is able to help audiences feel like they are fighting along side a true warrior. He had already led what most would refer to as a full life before he entered acting, so he rightfully has always seen himself as more than an actor. So gather around and pass over that peace pipe as we try to find out how this dude became such a cinematic badass and discover What Happened to Wes Studi.

The way he held the screen alongside Daniel Day-Lewis is about the best compliment and actor can get
Big ups to the channel for covering Wes Studi!
I love this channel for giving Wes Studi a spotlight like this!!! Way to go JoBlo!!! Wes Studi is an underrated legend!!!
Wes Studi was awesome in Mystery Men and Deep Rising.
His role in Avatar was underrated, he has a commanding presence in every scene. He was solid
Very VERY Good actor. Superb in my book.

Randolph Scott was in the desperados 1943 with Glenn ford the doolins of Oklahoma 1949 with John Ireland George macready Charles kemper
Wes Studi is awesome, truly an underappreciated actor. I am so glad JoBlo has spotlighted him.
"He who questions training only trains himself at asking questions."
He was most recently in Reservation Dogs as "Bucky".
He’s so freaking good in Last of the Mohikans and Dances with Wolves!
I'll always remember him as Sadat from Street Fighter.
Its hard not to believe he isn't on yellow stone!
I was amazed to see Wes and Danny Trejo in Heat, because they were cast just like any other actor....no attention to their heritage....no stereotypes!
Great actor. So many memorial roles
One of my favorite actors ever. Love his roles in Deep Rising, Avatar and The Last of The Mohicans!!!
would you mind doing one on Gordon Tootoosis? Please
I loved him in Deep Rising
Awesome Actor 👍
I love Wes Studi! He’s obviously fantastic playing parts in period movies but he should’ve been given more opportunities to play a typical male lead too. Also I met him once at a pow wow and couldn’t believe how nice and soft spoken he was especially given his numerous warrior roles. Just shows what a great actor he is!
Really enjoyed this, love Wes Studi!
thank you!!
100% badass, he was Last Of The Mohicans, and then owned Geronimo.
And honestly, I had completely forgotten he was in Dances With Wolves, so thanks for the reminder.
He is always so great
He will always be Magua to me!
I got to work with Wes Studi in a low budget film in Detoit
Great actor
Please watch Deep Rising, such a fun film.
This was great.

Love, love, love.......
One of my favourite actors. Very much up there with guys like Brian Dennehy for ‘actors who should’ve been so much better regarded and given way bigger parts’.
Deep Rising...nuff said.
He was awesome in geronimo
Lol, when you can't get Graham Greene, you get Wes Studi.
Every movie I've seen him in was great and his part in the movies he's part always stood out definitely!
He makes us Proud✊️
He was awesome in reservation dogs.
What happened to Randolph Scott
Legend
Just bought Hostiles because I realized I didn't own it yet.
Magua will eat the Grey hairs heart! We have all felt that
Do Graham Greene next...
Last of the Mohicans is one of my favorite films of all time. I love Wes Studi, but top 25 seems a bit high, mostly because he's been given very limited roles in which to show his range.
It's like a shitty idea of inclusion, giving a lifetime award instead of actually giving the person in roles that they normally wouldn't get
He certainly made that hard boiled egg look good in Dances with wolves.
Can you do Nancy Travis in an upcoming episode?
He was so funny in mystery men
is that sagat from streetfigter in the thumpnail?
Mystery Men is my favorite of his craft; but yes he dominates all of his projects
It says a lot for the man to nail the shinpx, while being a mostly serious actor.
"He should be training them" lol
Only know him as sagat
Wes is a real badass Vietnam vet
He’s in the series reservation dogs
He is a real bad ass
I like my games live, and in living color!
he’s a good indian
Cover Renny Harlin!
Now do Graham Greene!!!
WTF Happened to Michael T. Weiss!
Great Navajo Indian American actor wes studi played in a lot of great movie roles starting with dances with Wolves in the early 90s last of the Mohicans street fighter mid 90s best bank robbery movie of all time heat as he played al Pacino cop partner taking down Robert de niros bank robbery crew team which came out in 1995 horror film cult classic movie deep rising which came out in 1998 taking on an octopus in an abandoned cruise ship after the 2000s wes studi movies went on straight to DVD appearing in more movies about Navajo Indians the new world with Colin Farrell cult hit comedy a million ways to die in the west coming out in 2014 since then after 2000s Wes studi movies went on straight to DVD at the age of 76 years old also and doing an achievement being in the army also before making movies in Hollywood
Rez Dogs was great
Top three Uncles of all time, with Will Sampson and Graham Greene. A-ho!
I personally loved him in Deep Rising. He was such a dick. Safe to say, he's been good in every role, regardless of the movie.
Wes and Robert Davi could be brothers
Don't get wrong he is grate in heat but I would like to see hem as a bad guy in that movie
Street fighter. One of the best bad movies ever made.
Hold on are you not going to talk about apocalypto
i wish Joblo would stop overreacting as to what happened to actors. Nothing bad actually ever happened to them in the first place anyway. and as for Wes Studi, he's been very successful for years. He was even in that one western movie with Christian Bale among other things. the only time Wes Studi starred in a "stinker" movie was Street Fighter but as the other movies, Wes Studi has bee doing just fine.
Ben Johnson was born on a Rez, he may not be full Native but I'd say he counts... Full or mixed blood makes no difference to us you're still Native...
I want to give this video more than 1 thumbs up dammit!!!
What the fuck it's he's best work I don't get it
