such a great and useful video. Thanks for this so many years ago.
Good review in every respect! Yeah, I misspell stuff every once in a while too!! Hope to see more from you guys!
Great review on 3 different engines
If the guy on the right shaves showers and wears the right swag he might be able to get a job at one of the obsolete magazines like Motor Trend or hot rod.
I found the hater 😂
Great job and a great video.
Engine Masters, best show for engine testing.
Very good facts, thank you very much!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😇😇😇👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
They both look like they sell cheap speakers out of a white van.
Or bjs by the river in it
Lmao
haha three for five
Sell weed out of an old step van.
Interesting setup on the 9:1 350, its almost identical to my sbc in my driver minus the heads (ive got some old whatever's from the 80's).
Very Good test! I run the Air Strike on my 383 stroker, and wouldnt change it for the edelbrock! I have had numerous Eddy products and were dissapointed with them, your paying for the name. This intake is a proven performer, I am not saying its bad by any means, its great. BUT its also MUCH higher priced than the Weiand! So do you want to pay an extra 80 dollars for the corporate edelbrock name? Just some food for thought! The weiand works great!
I would love to see a test on the Wieand stealth intake as well.
Great testing! Looks like either milder motors like the manifold cutout or they both like it, wish you would have tested the cutout on the 360 too!
Those water outlets are for front to back flow on each side if you look at the way they are used for short track circle tracks.
woah... Freiburger had a mullet
Yep, and he looks like he's been sleeping in his car outside the dyno room.
@@rondyechannel1399 He probably had lol...
Good test nice video.
It would be good to see a comparison between the stock manifold and the edelbrock to see the true gain of the air gap.
Sure would have liked to see the comparison of the 1inch spacer used on the Air Gap and Air Strike with milled divider on the wilder engine.
@peskypete, I have B1 mod secret for Mopar 318, 340, 360 Offy dual plane in my library.
Old enough to remember Nos/sneaky pete"
I am surprised that the Weiand with the extra plenum capacity in the upper plane did not show more performance than it did, especially on the top end. I mean a balanced set of plenums on a dual plane intake manifold is bound to help regarding cylinder to cylinder distribution... @ least one would think.
a old engine builder told me just add a thin 3/8 open spacer to any dual plane intake to help out for for more power .
I got the Air gap for my 468 BBC street /strip car and also got the 1" Super Sucker spacer ! Its going to be interesting when I get it fired up!
id rather watch this than pay for motortrend
the results are so close they can be considered equal, without port matching.
Great show, good luck
I want to know how far down to mill that gap in my manifold and how far across??? I dont want to add the spacer....
Looks to me like it comes down to money and which decal is cooler looking.
Without looking ahead, I will predict that both manifolds produce nearly identical peak hp and tq numbers. Onto the show!
Eh, close enough.
you should try that on a stock 350 from a cast iron intake manifold to the Edelbrock and weiand
Mjoollllllkklppp
Llppp
Yes! That would be very infomative. And try them at both ends, near stock and close to full race. This 360 was a little over the middle of street/strip.
I'm not even going to watch the video but anybody who knows anything about a Performance Engine knows that engines can be very particular about Parts especially induction parts you can build two engines identical and one might like an Edelbrock intake and the other one might like Holly intake or perhaps a wiend intake, etc.
The only way to know for sure is to test them all
This was a long time ago ,Fri. hadn't gotten Steve's hair white yet.
Man Frieburger is a baby hear. And Brule has hair!
I'd like to see a vintage Torker up against a Torker II and the RPM Air Gap on a 350 , 9:1 Hyd. Cam SBC and a simular 383...
The Torkers were some of the worst manifolds ever made. That is a useless comparison.
The original Torker made more power than the Torker 2, I've seen it tested on a dyno against a RPM, the original Torker made almost as much HP, but the RPM made alot more TQ across the board. The Torker 2 was redesigned to be more street friendly, but it was a turd that wasent good anywhere. Probably the worst singleplane ever made, the old street master was a piece of shit too. Torkers and Tarantulas were actually good intakes.
This is the stuff we need to know! For every application, every V8, straight 6, V 6 and four banger out there! And not just Chevy either. All the good motors need to be included!
Years ago i had a Weiand Stealth on a small block chevy 355 and it made power to 7000 rpm...worked great with a Holley 750DP carb! Edelbroch wasn't as popular back in the 90's as it is today, it was mass produced and quality just wasn't up to par, they may be better now but not sure...
??? Vic jr, performer, performer rpm? Those have been around before the 90's.
@@dennisrobinson8008 yes the intakes were, but their carbs didn't seem as popular as the Holley's.
@@jeffthejinjer That's true, more people understood the holleys at the time. Holley also had more carbs to suit different purposes.
@@dennisrobinson8008 the Carter carbs were kind of nice too, the metering rods came right out the top and you could change the size of the rods if you need more or less fuel, kind of like a motorcycle throttle needle you can change the depth for more air or fuel..
@@jeffthejinjer Sounds like those were probably even MORE tunable than a Holley, it's just that most of us didn't understand them... What's wild is how FLAT the AF curve is on a properly setup Holley, it's a very good fuel metering device.
Hey Chad ,that Ounce was a little tiny bit lite on my scale. Stop sampling the goods!
Which manifold would work better with a 1 & 7/8ths header, which would more closely match the cam and heads?
None of those.
Where would I find a Edelbrack intake ? I have. Winter's Aluminum Oldsmobile 442. W-30 intake as well as a Edelbrock Torker but never heard of Edelbrack good video though.
sounds like it might just come down to price then. thanks guys!
good info thank you
how are the manifold flanges I found that the Weiand For the 302 ford has a problem with warping. I had the manifold trued twice but it keeps warping.
Just get a Chevy or Mopar with a Performer manifold. It will solve all your issues.
But at any rate, the Weiand manifold is like any other Weiand product these days. Way overpriced and of fairly low quality. I mean, who pays the same for a crappy cast Weiand blower and one would pay for a Blower Shop blower with billet rotors? Holley is milking the Weiand name for all it's worth.
@port nut Very true. It does not change the fact that the RPM Airgap is the best working dual plane manifold for performance applications currently.
Edelbrock has a few things I like, most I don't care for, but those few things are also proven and stellar performers.
The Edelbrock BBC 325 cc CNC oval heads are among the best street heads ever made. I put together a 498 ci short stroke BBC for a friend three years ago, and those heads with a ported RPM Airgap always amazes me.
The engine made 637 hp @ 6200 rpm, but what was insane was the peak torque number of 597 @ 3700 rpm, and flat power curve to 6800. Not only was the engine rev happy and agile, it had heaps of low end torque and crisp response. A spread of 2500 rpm is rare and it makes for an engine that is so nice to drive. I've yet to see a head and intake combo that can do that.
I have heard that Edelbrach candy tastes like aluminum
Is Edelbrach the Boston version of Edelbrock?
What music is that? that is a Wicked riff!
The color of Chads beanie matches the background making him look like his eyes are at the top of his head.
ya,what about the eps vs air gap on a vortech 350 ?
The RPM airgap makes more power than the EPS. The EPS is in between the performer and the RPM.
yes i do miss tinkering with engines. but my 70 year old body will not let me do that any more. my new hobby is dating girls. LOL. LOL
Frieburger looks like Joe Dirt in begining
like eddy brachs candy? maybe you can do a video on "Stahl" converters...
Maybe you can be a petty little bitch and focus on all the wrong shit.
He looks like he's going to a phish concert
WTF is an Edelbrach?
A misspelling of Edelbrock. But you didn't see that huh.
Its my new knockoff coming soon!
you lose creds if you cant spell your tests
lol how the hell do you end up having it spelled like that tho
@@joefries365 It's not as bad as the ones who pronounce it Elderbrock.
THIS is the kind of info sorely, sorely lacking in the advertising-heavy car shows on Speed and Spike.
running the air gap on my 398 Windsor. 490 hp.
....... awesome information , name choice blows there Dave , it was lame choice , new one much better , Steve must have picked the new name
Does anyone else hear Chris Griffin from family guy when Chad speaks?
80 difference for a better product with better gains even when the Air Strike was milled.
Edelbrach?? Is that the european version of Edelbrock?
It's kinda like the elderbrock, only it makes more power.
What's an "Elderbrock?"
Is that the old version?
rather the us version
What about port matching?
+1400IntruderVS only if you`re car is too big for your port
what if you milled the airgap and then put a spacer?
Over the years I've found most intakes are machined crooked...roof on one side higher than head port roof and the other side too low,not to mention port matching size being way too small compared to head port size.Pretty well all intakes have ports to suit stock heads, so it stands to reason, pretty well all hp heads are noticeably larger than standard.
Maybe I'm just too picky, but ANY so called dyno testing (especially comparisons) is 100% waste of time and fuel. Like Joe Sherman said, he would never bolt an intake on without port matching. I don't have a problem with testing an out of the box intake, but port alignment must be addressed accordingly, but it must be followed up with a test after port matching. Hp difference will be drastic on higher hp motors. I flow tested a 302 Air Gap intake on a head that flowed 270cfm a while back ....after port matching...knocked 70cfm off the flow. I'd hate to think how much flow it would've lost before port matching.I know it's a lot more work and cost to do back to back testing, because you really need to have 2 of each intakes so you can change from one to the other on the spot...and that's just on one motor...on this test they would of required even more ported intakes because of the different engine cylinder heads. Sorry to be so negative about the testing, but I want people realise it's not as simple as throwing an intake on a motor and going to Church on Sunday and praying that it's all going to work out perfectly. Doesn't work that way.
OMG. Look at that hair.
Why don't you do something other then chevy how about a 318 or 360 mopar sb?
They have a new show called engine masters in motortrend where they compare Mopar to Chevy stroker crate engines check that out
or a 408 windsor
All the old school engines work the same ways... and Chevy is a lowest price build to work with...
How about the Weiand intake not having a gap were the thermostat is like on the EDELBROCK mind you the correct spelling
Are you sure this video wasn't shot in 1992?
Didn't change anything huh, i noticed that the timing was altered, the distributor position is different between 3:16 and 4:14.
It does appear that the total timing was changed. However, It could also be that they installed the distributor off from where it was originally and then retimed it hence the new position. It is possible that they didn't change the timing and the position is different as well.
What is a edelbrach???
Something that confuses dipshits is what it's appearing to be.
What is a Edelbrach?
And misspelled Edelbrock ...no wonder Motor Trend on demand failed
I run a Weiand Intake Manifold...I actually prefer it more, because for 40 dollars cheaper I can use it, and still keep up with the Edelbrock.
you mean Edelbrock?
Shaved ...unshaved Different days ? Yes Vic is spinning in his grave. (Sr. that is)
So not Edelbrock?
Somebody has a spelling problem, its Edelbrock !
...who's doing the music? wow
it may make more dyno HP, but the vic jr will out accelerate the dual plane
ENGINE MASTERS!
This is not Engine Masters.
Which ever one is cheaper is the one going on my engine. That's really what it comes down to.
I vont an Edelbrach Lol!!!!
yeah, on my Camero!
man freiburger looks weird with a mullet
Hotrod had manifold shoot outs for years.
Buy the magazine subscription. Before the Internet, people expected/received payment for intelectual property.
Or you can look at 10 year old Hot Rod Garage videos for free.
I have a large library of HP Books.
Dating back to when one book was $15. Now those books sell for $40. Internet go down? So what. Get my Holley carb book off my shelf.
WOULD you know what month and yeaR of that issue? TRYING to find Chevy bbc version of these intake tests.
So basically, there is not enough difference to warrant any level of argument. I wonder how the engines would do with a more appropriately sized carburetor on it. The 700 is just too big. A 600 or at most, a 650 would have been more appropriate.
360 x 90% V.E. = 324 x 6,200 = 2,008,800 / 3456 = 581 x 1.2 = 697.5
That was the correct carburetor.
Eric Fixalot
Not if the engine is going to be driven on the street. The 700 will just cause the vehicle to fall on it's face at a stoplight if the driver stomps the gas due to a lack of fuel velocity at idle.
Ron LeVine No that is for a street car and I'm aware of what happens when your carb is too big. Trust me 700 is fine.
Idiot
Dennis Massengill, I don’t think 90% is much of a stretch with updated top end.
Aaron Rembert “times 1.2” is to convert to the correct vacuum drop.
Only thing Edelbrock makes that’s worth a damn is there intakes
Guys are saying the name wrong it's we iand not wy aind
No it's pronounced why and. The old intake manifold boxes even said "say why and" on the side. The decals did too.
man, homeless Dave REALLY needed a shave. How come he looks younger now that he's bald?
Because that mullet and beard would make anyone look 15 years older.
WEIAND HECHO EN CHINA, DONT BUY!
FYI: Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow is a Jet engine...LOL not an I/C- engine....LMAO
Suck Squeeze Bang Blow? You mean Engine Masters presented by Amsoil?
No. This was a show filmed in 2007. Long before MTOD, Roadkill or the like was even thought about. I think this was part of that Carjunkie TV thing.
3" long by 3/4" deep
That's what she said...
Nice sweater lmao
Don,t you think the fuel curve is going a little RICH
EDELBROCK.....
Who titled this video? they spelled Edelbrock wrong LOL
Good observation chief, you deserve a trophy.
"Edelbrach"
how the hell did you spell Edelbrock wrong in the title
I like Chad, but Finnegan is definitely more entertaining
Makes me worry that these guys (or their web guru) can't spell Edelbrock.
I prefer weiand Over edelbrock all day long.
Why?
You prefer less power? Maybe you should just buy yourself a Chrysler minivan instead.
Fishburger
Unless your shoving dry ice under an air gap between passes at the strip. The only gap is in your shrinking wallet.
I Love there episodes. .... but they both look SO STONED !
Marijuana is actually good for you, don't believe the lies told by your masters, they all consume marijuana. They just don't want you doing it, I wonder why that is...
don't buy the profession products intake ,they are junk .the ports are so badly cast ,they don,t match well to the head ports.I use the rear coolant ports on my air-gap ,the engine runs a little cooler ,and I had to richen up the idle a little .
should of used a holly
you have enough fuel for 493 HP
