I think something you’ve missed is that Price didn’t necessarily kill Shepherd because he lied in the court room, he told Shepherd because a couple missions earlier when they were working with shadow, price wanted a positive ID on Makarov, Shepherd dismissed it and basically said that the destruction on scene was proof enough. Therefore, without positively ID’ing Makarov, when Makarov returns and kill soap by the bomb, it’s truly Shepherd’s fault because he wouldn’t let price get a positive ID on Makarov in that scene.

      Personal interpretation:
Throughout this whole campaign Price seems on edge, unsure about the thing he used to believe in. But the moment he shot Shepherd he seemed more resolute than ever… because he’s made up his mind. Soap’s death made Price realize that he can’t play by the rules anymore.

    • @ThirdPlaceEntertainment
      @ThirdPlaceEntertainment Před 6 měsíci +41

I think the reasoning behind him killing Shepherd more so came from the line Makarov says "Don't bury your enemies alive." Price didn't let soap kill Makarov when he had the chance and regretted it because it got soap killed and in turn his decision to make soap back off made him responsible or at least feel responsible for the death. Combine this with the line shepherd said earlier in the campaign when they rescue him that essentially communicated if price doesn't uphold his end of the deal Shepherd will kill him and everyone else. The last time Price got that threat and didn't heed it soap died. He wasn't going to take that chance again. So he killed Shepherd. Poetic Justice from the original modern warfare trilogy... No loose ends.

I think the alternate ending was great man! One other thing that happened which I feel was never addressed, is that Shepard gave intel to Makarov. In the scene where Makarov and Nolan walk out of the room with the "captive" and Nolan asks what if his intel isn't good. That was Shepard, I'm pretty sure, and I think the whole "don't need to confirm a body" in the mission with Graves was Shepard working with Makarov. This gave Shepard a win because as far as the world was concerned Makarov was dead, only TF 141 would have known different by the last mission. I think that's what Capt. Price realized and partly why he killed Shepard, because Shepard most likely gave Makarov Soap and Price for his own life. Unfortunately i don't think the game did a great job of fleshing this point out.

Your restructuring of the campaign and rewriting of certain elements was definitely leagues above what was actually given to us, but there is one more change I would make to this and it would be to the London mission.
I don't think it was the right call to kill off Soap. If I were to change 1 thing, it would be the death scene in 1 of 2 ways:
Option 1: Gaz and Price are the ones who clear the tunnel and find the bomb, and Gaz is the one who gets killed.
Option 2: Soap and Price do still clear the tunnel together, but you play from the perspective of Soap and Price is the one who dies.
Either of those 2 options would have had a much more emotional impact as a whole, because on one hand, Price watching Gaz (who he's essentially mentored to this point, is essentially this trilogies version of the Soap from the original trilogy) die would have been much more emotional to him. On the other hand, with Price being the one to die, it would make the emotional impact for the entire team, as well as the players, much higher as a whole, and it would have been the most unexpected death out of the 4. I thing Gaz dying was what most people expected, with Price being 4th, Soap being 3rd and Ghost being 2nd. What we got was a death that only amounted to poor shock value and kind of discounts Soap's development in the 2nd game from seemingly a rookie looking to prove himself to Ghost's prodigy. It was wasted development in my option and completely ruins Soap's story as a whole.
If Price or Gaz die, it doesn't really ruin their character development or story because we've gotten to see them develop over the course of 2 games, where as Ghost and Soap have only really had 1 game in the spotlight. Soap's death was extremely premature, and the only character we really get to see him develop with is Ghost, so if he got more time to develop his character with the other members of TF141, his death would have meant more than it did. I would have even been fine if we didnt see anyone on the team die until the next game, because then we'd have at least seen Soap's character get developed further. Unfortunately, we didn't get that and we're instead left with a poor excuse for a sacrifice that was done to produce shock value and closed the door for future character development, leaving Soap as a glorified footnote on the overall story of the new MW games as a whole.

    • @speedyazi5029
      @speedyazi5029 Před 6 měsíci +11

I agree with Price being the one to die. If Price dies there is infinitely more emotional impact because this is a character we’ve seen grown and respect in all 3 games. Having him die also allows this trilogy to be different from the original. More importantly, it does something with Gaz that the OG does not - Gaz survives and takes up the mantle of being the leader Price mentored him to be.
Price dying would make the satisfaction of pursuing Makarov much higher and more tense. Also, have Price fucking fist fight Makarov like he does with Shepard and have him lose with Soap being critically wounded (like in MW2).
Soap dying is just plain rehash done incredibly poorly.

    Some ideas for thought.
1- When Makarov explodes the airport, there isn't really a connection as to why the players should care. As for a fix? Perhaps have a survivor soldier who is injured, and is dealing with the aftermath of it and the playes play a mission as him. This would replace the hole that "No Russian" has left, and actually show the destruction Makarov is causing first hand and in first person. And it would also shake up the gameplay since you wouldn't be able to just run and gun now since you'd be heavily injured.
Then that would make the soap flipping out a lot more personal, while also still giving Makarov a win since he said ghost was supposed to die, but now someone else took his place instead.
2-Price had no reason to not kill Makarov there, other than plot armor Makarov had because without him the story wouldn't have a villain. Fix? We already know from the campaign itself that Makarov is working with extremists from Moscow. Perhaps price refrains from killing Makarov because of that exact reason, because Makarov isn't the end all be all as he is connected to even a bigger circle! and not just "morals" AND that would explain why Makarov would be cocky on getting captured because he knows they wouldn't kill him considering the valuable information he has.

I know you couldn’t do this but there’s a couple of things I would add:
1.) We know that All Ghllied Up/One Shot One Kill from the OG MW is still canon in the reboot timeline. Perhaps a conversation with Yuri and Makarov like in the OG MW3, Imran gets shot, stumbles to the truck, and the drive away like before. It then cuts to Yuri and Makarov on base in the barracks later that evening. Everyone is sleeping. Yuri wakes up to take a piss where he sees Makarov - the only one still wide awake sitting on his rack. The two then silently speak about what’s wrong with Makarov and he pulls out his uniform stained with Imran’s blood and goes on some anti-west short speech.
2.) A mission right before the London one where we play as an AQ LT working with Makarov on the Piccadilly Circus attacks of 2019. It would essentially be like the OG No Russian with the player doing the massacre and eventually getting shot by Price immediately prior to him meeting and helping Gaz.
3.) Having the Gen Shepherd assassination by Price be the last playable mission. Price gives a call to McMillian like the OG and talks about Soap’s recent death. Mac then contacts Laswell and the three of them workout how Cpt Price infiltrates the Pentagon. It would be a short stealth sequence.

Seriously, I could’ve written where a creatively new character of call of duty could’ve taken the bullet against new Makarov and task force 141 are led by captain price and Ramirez and the 2 captains had a fallout against each other because a member of theirs died when Makarov could’ve been dead instead of spared. That drives Ramirez to go underground. It clashes with price who does dark for the worlds stability is more coalition shill than some soldier for humanity. Their ideologies clash and that makes it a low point for task force 142. As they’re split by the end. And the bad guys are more united with a plot twist victory where Makarov actually plotted to destroy central London from the far distance instead. With nova 6 gas bomb. Radiating London.

I also like the position of Makarov's "Return". It attaches well into a cliffhanger, and leans more into a worldwide threat that the original MW3 itself formed up.
The twist of the court scene is wonderful. In reverse, it portrays Graves as someone who went rogue to eliminate 141 while Shepard denies everything on his end...
With Shepard dead, and the sketchy nature of Shadow Company, Graves might find himself on the list soon enough and be in the deep looking for a way to clear his own name.

But he can still survive in the next story while Soap, Garrick, Alex, Farah, Nikolai, and Ghost will carry on the mission. Also introducing new characters like Gary "Roach" Sanderson, Joseph Allen, James Ramirez, Derek "Frost" Westbrook and others. If there's one addition I'd recommend, I think you could insert the mission where the 141, ULF, and Shadow Company team up either after the airplane false flag mission or after Laswell's meeting with Yuri.
With your revision, Graves and Shadow Company are mostly forgotten besides mission support dialogue from Graves, mentions during cutscenes, or the Congress testimony cutscene. Adding the alliance mission back in further shows that Shadow Company actually does have skin in the game against Konni and perhaps strengthens Graves' being honest in his testimony to Congress.
As for the plot, instead of the mission revolving around a plan to kill Makarov, it would be to repel a Konni incursion into Urzikstan (who perhaps were authorized by the Kremlin to go after the ULF after framing the latter for taking down the plane). The "you can't run from death, taxes, or me" line could be said after taking out either retreating Konni troops or another stolen ballistic missile.

Wonderful job all around, really wish there were minds like yours in that writers room.
Only thing I would comment on is that Price already had plenty reason to kill Shepard at the end. But it's all the more evident and beautifuly laid out in your timeline.
By begining with Makarov's capture, you have placed a vital scene in the begining, the start of a moral dilemma. Soap goes off and is about to kill Makarov, but Price commands him not to. By all accounts, killing him then and there would ensure that he would cause no more harm, the definite end to a great danger. But in practice, Command had decided they needed Makarov alive, if anything adhering to legal proceedures and intenting to use him as a source of information. Price is still working with Shepard, Laswell still follows his orders. He has to order Soap not to kill Makarov, having faith in a system that will contain the danger in front of him. And Soap obeys, despite what his instincts tell him.
This kicks of a beautifully made butterfly's effect of events that lead to the bomb scene, where Price is faced with the consequences of his actions, when Makarov kills Soap. His faith in the system is then shattered, wielding to the instinct to erradicate the immediate danger, just like Soap wanted to in the begining. "Never bury your enemies alive". By placing the scene with Shepard's trial and betrayal after this turn of events and by proving to T141 that he is unreliable, and therefore dangerous, Price is met with the same dilemma again: put an end to the danger or have faith in the system that will contain it. Price was met with this choice once more and this time he will not repeat same mistake again.
Once again, great job with with timeline, great grasp on the core themes of MW.

This tells the entire story so much better than the way the production team delivered it. It also just makes a lot more sense this way. The transition points are perfect too. I love everything about this.
Side note, while I'm still disappointed about Soap's death, the plot devices make it feel like it was at least expected if not necessary. Closing out Makarov's arc for a second time almost universally seems to center around the sheer hatred 141 has for Makarov and making something happen that gives the team pause before the necessary clarity to complete the mission.
In the end though, this time around, I hope it's Ghost who will be the one to punch Makarov's ticket. Ghost and Soap's bromance in MW2 demands it.

Someone had to be killed, bc why would they always keep them alive, it would be like if they can't die, that's lame you would know how the story would go but that death was unexpected no body expected it so It was a good think they did that.

The way MWIII originally played out was good but this was better.
I loved the verdansk mission first as it shows how TF-141 know makarov.
The storyline was more or less the same but I do like the incorporation of the ULF being designated as a terror organisation from MW19 as it provides some context.
Cutting out shepherds testimony was a surprising move and fits in well.
If sledgehammer played it out like this, it would get players hyped for the season 1 story.
When it comes to price needing a motive to kill shepherd, he had a few. Allowing makarov to live back in 2019, ordering shadow company to betray TF-141 and revenge for soap as shepherd could've told TF-141 makarov' plan the moment he was pulled out of the water, which could've prevented the London/tunnel attack or allowed the SAS to get a head start and have price plus the rest of the team join them in due course.
Cutting out the open combat mission where konni deployed bombs and chemical weapons to kill all of verdansk was a good move as it was a distraction setup by makarov.
Overall I like this rewrite, it felt more comfortable as opposed to the actual storyline which was a jumble.
    Original story 7/10
    Inkslasher story 9/10
The reason I am giving inkslasher 9/10 is because while the story was better, soap still died in both versions.

I would add that Makarov has an ally, a new brutal cartel leader, who killed Valeria and Los Vaqueros - Raul Menendez. After credits scene shows TF 141 unite with a black ops team under the leadership of David Mason. Have both universes truly be united this time.
