See if they did not cremate him in the campaign, he could have possibly lived because a wound to various parts of the brain including the frontal lobe could potentially not be fatal, that being said he certain parts of the brain could affect different aspects of his life, such as damage to the frontal lobe causing emotions amongst other things to be out of wack and so on and so forth meaning hadnt there have been the ash spreading scene, we would have had a potentially just brain damaged soap, thats if I put that all together correctly
