I wouldn't rush the main but I will tell you that depending on how many playthroughs you do certain things will start to change. On my fifth time, I think that was first time something really different happened after using the artifact to start my new game, on the 5th time or so around you will notice something when you get to the headquarters. And what happens depends on things you did through your first 4 plays. There is also some special things that happen when you max out certain things in the game on your next playthrough and the 9th or 10th round you'll run into something extremely cool trying not to put spoilers. So this is probably why he was hearing you needed to rush through because all you have to do is get the artifacts do those missions only and then you can go to New game Plus, most people that are in the know play 1st time normally and then speed through 2nd 3rd and 4th playthrough to see what happens on 5th and then rush 6 7 8 and slow on 9 and 10 I don't know anyone past 10 yet to see what happens

NG+ is like death, you die alone and you don’t know if you’ll be alone afterwards. Once your in the NG+ everything feels dead and not worth it, and constantly feels like everything you had continued without you, takes away the homely feeling of the game and makes you not care as much. If you could go through unity with one of your companions or maybe return to your old universe after so many it would give more of an incentive to grind through it all to return to your original home.

I had the same issue where all the artifacts were in the same place regardless of universe, and I started to notice that I was killing the same NPCs every time. But I used that lack of morality to build upon my characters lore where I start questioning if it was worth it, so I entered my last universe, collected the artifacts, went to the unity, but when it was time to step through I turned around. Temper that expectation there are engine limitations even with a script extender. They can only do variations of what Bethesda did. I.E. swap constellation around and change up the game mechanics. Remember mod users mod the game until they break the game and typically start new playthroughs with different mod orders. I have a feeling New Game+ is going to be the area least likely to get much love. Bit of advice. You can fully complete the story and meet yourself at the end and they'll give you the option to go through to a new universe or stay with tour friends in the old one. The reason I'm saying that is because you can collect all of the artifacts and say no and still hold on to them until you eventually want to go through and you'll stop getting random attacks from starborn. If you choose to fight both the hunter and the emissary you will also get two COOL ASS guns from them when you beat them to play through the rest of the game with. So just enjoy the game for what it is. I tried ng+ and as he said it just isn't worth losing everything for a fraction of beneficial gain. Another thing I think people overlook with NG+ is that it’s a vehicle for role playing your character. Usually with new games I have a feeling that I need to just consume all the content and see everything. That was really true for this game and there is a ton of content. After going through the unity a few times you realize it’s about doing things in a new way and playing the contents/stories you enjoy the most. My ultimate goal is to just get my character to level 100. I mained the story and naturally consumed the rest of the side content in NG+ 2. After 180 hours I’m deep into NG+4 but I’m only doing the things I want to do and where I started as a goodie two shoes, I’m now a murdering psychopath that has a million dollar bounty on my head with the UC. I’m a straight pirate and this gave me a different way to approach the game, seeing how I’m going to side with the pirates now it’s letting me role play in an entirely different way to my road to 100. I had no problem losing my stuff because it’s been such a joy just base/ship building that I can always lose myself in those systems for years to come.

I tried it, and there's this one thing that annoyed me so much that I went back.
    The companion.
I get it with the Starborn and I think it is brilliantly made. To have the choice of going further and in turn leave everything behind. To grow detached from the universe and ... it feels like being more alone each time.
I feel like my character has in some form become Dr. Manhatten. I want to try to be good, to build relations, but ultimately I cared less and less with each universe I stepped in. And it feels... sad. Not grindy, not bad... just sad and insignificant. Which is from a writers point very well done, but if doing things in a game feel insignificant, there's a slight problem.
I mean, as certain characters also go through unity with you, I hoped to meet them again, I mean "my" companions from "my" original universe. But that hasn't happen and so the only stable companions are the hunter and the emissary.
For the writing this is brilliant, if it were a movie I'd totally be into it. But for an RPG this feels... devastating almost. It's close to the fatality of Cyberpunks ending. And I admit, I am a big softy loving my happy endings. I just wish there'd be at least an option to at least take one companion with you, even if it would be hard to achieve.

Starborn-Cora is also a counter example for that journey to be fixed.
The good thing is, this whole Starborn-business is still open to interpretation and anything goes.

Diplomat, because my character is soft with words and as an empath they can tap into the hearts of the people. They're good natured because of the empath trait, so they linear more towards the hearts of the people more than the mind. That means talking down a trigger happy spacer by being persuasive by having no more bloodshed etc.
Dream house, well because all that time spent winning over others they're bound to find a way to get a big house, either by talking or a parting gift by some spacer noble who they've helped persuade along the way.
For kid stuff, I see it as a means to pay back the parents for the initial support for that diplomatic education during prior years. As you could tell, doing an evil playthough doesn't make sense for my character, so they're good all the way.

The reason most people say to focus main campaign so you can be informed of how the game continues. A lot of people felt they're being punished for spending considerable amounts of time and Effort outside the main story. Even with the options, it's not hard to see why there are those who feel some type of way about the game not feeling satisfying in some regards.

Very true. I think every player has more or less a bit of a dilemma at the campaign ending, but since i found out you can get all the different types of powers within the first playthrough I really don't think i need to play 9x further just for the power fantasy. On the other hand the powers aren't even remotely balanced and seem like an afterthought during development. I mean this game is easy enough on very hard. Though that hunter suit is looking sick... Basically I just wanted to go through that portal to become starborn, get the ship and suit and I really liked that for the story reasons. Then again reaching higher levels will be a slog if i stay in one universe as well (currently only 36)... I would love for a way to travel back to the first game as well, maybe that's a neat idea for a DLC or mod.

  • @killingxgesture

Did you talk to the Hunter in New Atlantis, and again in Akilla before doing the main quest? There's some special dialogue you can get at least the first iteration, where he talks about "All the things I've been in life." It implies every time he goes through the Unity, he tried being a bit different, living a different life.
To me that's where the NG+ appeal is rooted. Starting over, and living a different life. Your character can become more jaded, more detached with each jump... or they can see a universe in need of saving every time. It's all up to you.

That said, I got really sucked into the main quest the first time so I wasn't that attached to my first universe, other than Andreja. I'm on the third now and am doing all the factions and stuff. I want to hit all the temples but that is such a boring grind that I have to do other stuff in between. I'll probably do the full main quest again for the rest. I think it's fun to slowly build the ultimate character and to do that by doing nearly everything before moving on. It's also probably the most ethical way to be a starborn. Each universe has it's own people and struggles. You can be a good force, a bad one, or an absent one. But when I'm ready, I'll leave it all behind and meet another Andreja in the next one.

I once thought I’d simply wait for mods to just cheat my way to level 10 powers and stay with the OG universe where I care about everything, but I actually like the fact that you slowly become the hunter. I think Starfield focused more on scope than on intimacy because it is a space game, that's understandable. But I don't think that scope really plays that well into the NG+ mechanic when the focus is on making the game wider instead of deeper. If they focus on making subsequent playthroughs more meaningfully different from one another, even at the cost of slightly narrower experience, I think NG+ suddenly becomes much more interesting and worth investing into. Imagine a whodunit questline where the suspect is actually random every playthrough. That is just one example, but nearly every size and type of questline could conceivably be altered from playthrough to playthrough, but I can understand that it would be difficult to balance creating entirely new content vs iterating on existing quests to add replay value. It's their first implementation of it and it's an ok feature as it is now, but I hope that they refine and improve it for their next game, assuming they bring it back at all.

I'm on my 6th NG+ and have decided to stop until mods. Really hit the nail when he said, "You begin to develop this detached mind set..." I usually feel this way when I make multiple characters in past games, but with Starfield it's more appropriate. A neat little roll play idea I came up with is when I start to feel detached and treat everyone around me as they really are (NPCs in a game) I remind myself that even though they are different people with the same familiar faces, they are still people. I should treat them as if I'm meeting them for the first time. Sure, I could kill Vladimir just to see what would happen, but I would still be killing an innocent person. The idea is to retain your morality while doing different things through the different universes. Think of a constant pull between the Emissary and the Hunter. Both the Emissary and the Hunter are in my opinion immoral extremities. Instead of choosing black or white I prefer to fall somewhere in the gray. Yes, I want as much freedom as the Hunter has, but I also know how important it is not to abuse my power and use it for evil. I also can't help to feel like I'm constantly looking down on others. Magic powers aside. Not necessarily a "holier than thou", but more like in a literal sense. The main character in a video game. I love immersion in beathesda games, but the more I tried to immerse myself in this game, the more detached and evil I began to feel all because I was getting too impatient when talking to people and had to ward off the intrusive thoughts from taking over and start killing people just because it was quicker.
*spoilers ahead for anyone who wants to be surprised by the NG+ differences*
In my third NG+ all of constellation were replaced with children. I was very surprised and thought it was so cool. Up until I realized I wasn't able to have my buffs for my ship. (So, about 5 seconds)
In my fifth and most previous NG+ I ran into Andrja in the Lodge telling me that she has hunted down and killed every other member and that I'm the final kill to be made. This really tore me apart. Andreja is my favorite character and the one I usually romanced. Having her not only tell me that she's killed everyone else, but having to kill her to progress the story with my bare hands (the other zealots were too tanky for me to kill and take thier weapons) really got to me. Think of Rick and Morty meme when they come back from their 20 minute adventure. "Let's go. In and out. 20 minute adventure."

Really love how Bethesda made a story that really gets you immersed, cannot wait for the DLC.

I actually played through the main story on game pass. Started NG + then ended up buying special edition on steam for ease of mods. Love the game that much. Totally agree with the msg in this video

So basically, Bethesda built a story to excuse their shallow universe.

To me going to NG+ only made since and isn’t a big deal about leaving things behind, I did a decent amount of the main things and ended up losing Sarah. So I just finished out the story and went on. Now I’m taking my time on NG+ to start over again and try things different. I didn’t have many ships, had 1 outpost with barely anything on it and hadn’t seen many galaxies past level 50. Now I actually wanna dig in and explore all those this second go around cause I feel like I actually have a mission as like the Priest, I want to gain knowledge and learn how I could’ve done better or worse throughout the universe as I continue on. Because at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter, as I am one with the Unity

I wish we could redo traits when we did new game plus, would basically become a lore friendly way to do new saves and new role play vibes. Plus in one multiverse you could be a pirate, another a free star ranger or a marine etc

I hope it comes *really* soon!

I'm with you on this. I spent ages on normal mode, was really enjoying it, then thought ' let me try NG+, i'm sure it'll be cool '.
I wasn't disappointed with NG+, just not excited about it. Like you recommended, it's okay to see it, but for most people it's better to stay in a normal game. To enjoy all that Starfield has to offer there.

Thx for the video. Just finished the game yesterday and after playing ng+ for some hours you realize that it's not worth it to lose all the progress on outposts and research projects. Also, I prefer start with a new account with a new character 10 times of 10. Finally I came back to my save and I am enjoying a lot my universe waiting for cools expansions and mods to arrive next year.

They way I've been doing NG+ is switching up the Quest lines I complete that round, So do a NG as a UC centred play-through, next as a FC one, etc. Eventually at 10, I will do a complete run where I finish all the quests and settle down until I get tired and then do another NG. I like the concept of NG+ because it allows you to do exactly that, restart your game, but keep your stats.

@@SoalRaptor Yeah, I refuse. I got WAY too attached to Sam after going through his quest line and romancing him. I think replaying now would make me desensitized to any future Sam. It's definitely become a grind for me. I did one questline and heard about starborn and finished the main story. I'm on the 7th NG+ and I am not as excited about playing because now I want the best armor before I set my roots down permanently again. It's taken me days now just to get that far. I should've probably just ignored it and enjoyed my original universe tbh.

Lore permanence is a must for a story to matter. I know that it's a video game and that it doesn't really matter but it's hard to get invested when the entire plot is that everything is a play toy.

Yea that’s my thought process exactly, it’s impossible not to think like the hunter in the sense of dialogue not mattering and only wanting to find the fastest possible route to the artifacts if you go through with ng+ it’s super unengaging imo and makes every other quest line sorta obsolete from a lore perspective. Also the game is easy enough already don’t think it’s even worth getting more powerful but at the same time feel as though I’m missing out on some of the ng+ content

Andreja's personal story takes a twist...she was never caught by Vlad and Sarah and went on a murdering rampage of constellation, everyone is dead. She has a large chunk of the Artifacts. As soon as you get to the lodge the very first time its all out gun fight battle.
One other time the entity was dead which sucked cause I had to reload (as mentioned in his video they added some quarks)

    • @evedael

      @@Skalli10Spoilers...
In some ng+, some cool encounters can happen like Walter showing up to get his funds back from constellation, a grown up cora seeking revenge for her father's death or andreja showing up with cultists of the great serpent, forcing you to kill her. There's supposed to be alot more but it's random from what I seen. As for the main story, there's new starborn dialogue like calling out characters because you already did that event once.
I stopped at ng+ 4 and decided to settle on that universe, I encountered 4 new dialogue options but I haven't progressed to far into the main story so there's probably more.
Planning on doing the faction quests to see if any new dialogue pops up as well but we will see.
The reason you might not have encountered these events is due to a low probability of them showing up, if someone decided to settle on ng+ 6 and they have to kill Walter or anyone else, it would kinda suck to grind for 90 minutes to collect all the artifacts again, i haven't seen the events either, while Some people seen 3 by the time they reach ng+6, so just bad luck.

Thanks to both of you. I really hope Bethesda will add more unique twists/events like these for a world. Meaning, some other things might be off as well. But I guess this will be the modder's work (if even possible to alter much of the existing world).

  • @Jphoenix4ny

I had issues with Ng+ whether to skip the main quest or embrace it. I chose not to skip the quest and am having fun redoing the quests. There are some shortcuts with persuasion because my character remembers outcomes and this extra plot twist adds to my game. I do notice that I have many more advanced levels of weapons due to my level and quest rewards are higher in credits earned. I also don’t use my powers all that much except the instant oxygen one and seeing other characters through walls. I think I will probably stop going to the next universe after sinking many more hours here developing my game to my own desires and when things grows old move to unity…. This has been a very interesting game, very enjoyable. Love your content.
