    My opinion re: White Castle
I can respect a traditional way of cooking something. And I can respect liking onions a lot. But I CANNOT respect steamed beef burgers in this day and age, particularly when you are adding extra water to the onions, ensuring a wet, soggy mess.

I lived in Palos Verdes, and never really saw any homeless people. (about 40 from LA). But to be completely honest, it's an upscale neighborhood, and the government felt that rather than helping homeless people, they'd just load em up on busses and ship em out to homeless hotspots. Typically to Salt Lake City, as they're the only city that seems to actually try and help them

I've spent a couple weeks in LA when a family member of mine was still living there. (since moved, yes, for the reasons you think)
For every rich person you'll see in LA, you'll see 5 homeless, and for every 5 average Joes you walk past, you'll see a tent in the streets.
There are some areas where it's better, a lot of areas where it's worse.
What weirded me out the entire time though, is how normal almost everyone there considered it... It's honestly just sad...

Great reaction. I’m Australian but spent 1yr in US. 1st 6mths travelling thru California, Nevada,Colorado, texas, Illinois & New York. People were great but I did see things that upset me. I’m a mental health nurse & have treated unwell agg patients but the level of violence, drug taking, homelessness I saw was bad. LA was worst place for these things. I then went to work in a MH unit in Texas for 12mths. I never fit in & it seemed my beliefs were different to my colleagues so after 6mths I left. In Australia we do have problems but I was told a lot by some US nurses & drs that providing free education & healthcare in Australia was stupid as were our gun laws (yes we do pay taxes for these but not a lot and if you are a high wage earner you pay more which is what we were taught as kids to look after less fortunate). Many nurses were shocked that I had never seen a gun or looked after patients with gun wounds. Whilst I was shocked that sick patients were discharged too soon or not admitted because they had no insurance or were deemed not sick enough. Plus I saw a lot of poverty and guns especially in Texas and LA. US was great in country areas & New York but I left believing that US government are shit and need to look to countries like Aust & places In Europe and wonder why we have less problems. Plus the wages were crap. In Australia I leave my door unlocked even when I go out, can walk streets at night by myself. I liked the US people but not US government (just found many Uninformed about Australia & many things they believed about universal healthcare was actually laughable) I actually had a nurse say that a psychotic patient should get a job if they want to be admitted & yes aust MacDonalds shit all over US MacDonalds.

I live in LA, about 10 minutes from that same beach, and I don’t leave my house, so I’ve never experienced ANYTHING like this. Other than crazy homeless people yelling during the day on the street.
The craziest story I’ve got has gotta be at a 7-11, which any sentence that starts like that, you know it’s gonna be bad. J had gone In for my weekly Mango Madness Snapple, and it all seemed to be going great. I chatted up the 7-11 worker (who, in LA, are almost all Indian/middle eastern from my experience).
This guy isn’t relevant to the story, but I am very sad he no longer works there. I talked to him every week for 8+ years, he saw me go from a small, unintelligible elementary school kid, to a relatively well spoken adult. One day, he no longer worked there. Didn’t get to say goodbye, and wish him well. I hope he’s doing great
Anyways, back to the story. I had just exited the 7-11, and directly across the street, on Venice Boulevard (the big street that runs all the way to the GTA beach, Venice beach), there was a homeless man running around with a giant stick (not a machete) towards a group of children & teens, who seemed to be walking from a nearby school. As you can imagine, they ran, and the full grown man kept chasing them for about half a block, before giving up.
I must say, it’s mostly because the mental health system has completely failed here, and as someone who was lucky enough to be able to get the necessary programs to get me through my own mental health struggles (I’m doing well now!), I can say that it’s very very hard without it.

LA isn't all that bad honestly. I mean it's a shit show at night with the homeless but the problem is just as bad if not worse in Kensington PA. Over there it's the LITERAL drug den. So on top of everyone being homeless they are ALL stuck in time. Every single soul in that place is getting high even the ones who aren't homeless. In LA you at least have breaks in between the sadness when you go certain places, in Kensington there is no break until you leave.
