  • Varicose veins & spider veins are often caused by poor circulation in your legs and feet. In this video, I'll show several treatments that can help prevent them. Buy the JOMI thigh high compression hose here: jomicompression.com?
    Ankle pumps and seated heel/toe raises do a great job of increasing the circulation to your legs and increase oxygen to your blood so they can help prevent varicose and spider veins. They are also easy to do almost anywhere.
    Another great treatment is Compression stockings, hose, or socks. The folks at JOMI Compression have several different sizes and colors. Their thigh high compression hose are a great option to help prevent varicose and spider veins, as well as prevent DVTs and help with muscle fatigue.
    Now for standing exercises and stretches. The runner’s stretch stretches the calf muscles and Achilles tendon. Heel raises and single leg raises not only do a great job to increase circulation, but they also do a great job of strengthening the legs.
    Finally, a squat or modified squat is a great exercise as well.

    God bless you Doctor! You're the first person that has say anything about how we can prevent varicose veins. Most Doctors I met only talked about how they're there and that's it. You're the first person I heard that gives some hope that through exercises at least something can be done. 🙏

    I’ve been struggling with piriformis syndrome and had a really bad vein popping out that ran from my thigh down my leg, did this everyday for 3 weeks along with some piriformis stretches and THANK YOU SO MUCH. Im going to keep this stretch in my daily routine.

    I believe I developed spider veins at a nail salon when the nail tech was deep massaging my lower leg using a lot of pressure, to the point where it hurt badly. I was about 55 years old at the time. My patch of spider veins are located on my right lower leg (1 leg only) and are located about 2 inches below my knee.
    Questions:
    1). I was wondering, do I need to still wear two compression stockings if I only have spider veins on 1 leg?
    2). Could I wear the knee high stockings (which I prefer) based on where my spider veins are? Thank you for posting this useful video, we so appreciate the info!!

    Thank you, I'll definitely start using these exercises. So easy to do while sitting down. Are there any specific exercises for venous insufficiency in a thigh? Also, would tight compression sleeve be helpful, or are compression tights more suitable?

      You're welcome. I don't have a video specifically for that, but these might help. Check with your doctor about compression to make sure you get the right amount of compression for what you need.

    Hey doctor joe! My foot is showing a lot of veins and 2 are popping out. One of them hurts sometimes when I stand. I don’t know if it’s varicose veins. They are all blue too.

    I walk about 4 1/2 miles a day, are used to hike quite a bit. I’m 56, but I’m starting to notice varicose veins. I don’t unders I do sit a lot, but I want to walk every day by mile.
    Is there anyway to prevent this further, will more exercise help

    You look so cute with your socks lol!👍 I am actually in the UK but I have saved this and the other vein one to my exercise list and I have ordered a pair of thigh highs locally to help with that ache when I go for walks. I try to do at least 90 mins brisk walk daily (or I did before I slipped up, but doing those squats and leg raises were ok as its only been a fortnight that I lapsed for..the thought of DVT has given me the impetus to get going again!) Thank you again for giving me the kick in the butt required to get me going again! ( yeah I keep my toes up when I squat and my knees in line with my feet..not over them and can still do 30 slow so its not as bad as I thought. I also did some resistance glute band stuff in between so my resps and heart rate are up. I am 63 btw and cut out gluten and dairy in August and didnt slip on that despite the panic attacks stopping me going out a while...I have a gym bike and will carry on doing 40 mins on that at high resistance and 30-45 cardio/hiit or resistance band stuff as well if I dont walk).

      C. van den Berg I wear cotton blend compression socks to hike in the summer. They thicker than nylon, but more breathable.

    I've started developing spider veins but on my arms and there's no explanation anywhere. Is there a reason behind this? There's a small patch on my left arm and it looks like it's just about to commence on my right arm but I'm always using my arms. Is there a reason behind this or is it just a genetic?
    I also have it a bit on my thighs which makes no sense as I usually do minimum 25k steps a week (used to be about double out of lockdown) and I sim race so when constantly hitting the clutch, accelerate and brake would help with the circulation as its the exact same motion and I do it about 80 times every lap because of the clutch kick. A lot of it doesn't make all that much sense to me :(

      Thanks! They can be worn during exercises. It's different for everyone as to how long to wear them depending on what you are wearing them for and how severe it is. So that would be a better question to ask your doctor.

I only have 2 varicose veins but many spider veins on and around my fee that are ugly and make me feel self conscious. I will use my common sense as far as how long to wear the compression knee hi's. Luv the exercises and do them with u every day and the ones that can be done often I do throughout the day.

      It depends on what stage of recovery you are in and how your body reacts to treatment, but in general, therapeutic exercises can be done 1-3 times a day, every day.
