Being they claim this works on a fiberglass shower but there is no impact test here to show it works.

I was told by a contractor that one piece shower or tub surrounds are solid /thick enough to use these on.

This is a ridiculous mounting idea, when they say that you can mount it to the stud is just ludicrous. if you put two or three screws into the stud at such close proximity the stud will split, then you have a ticking time bomb when the grab bar will give way from the stud, It might feel secure the first time or second time you pull on the bar but eventually, it will give and when it does it will create more force for when you fall and increase the amount of injury. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen for Moen. I can't believe the lawyers for Moen did not point this out to them, it does not take a rocket scientist to see just how dangerous this mounting system is. The same goes for the drywall also, The most weakened area for drywall is in the bathroom where moisture over time weakens it and so again you have a ticking time bomb waiting to happen when the bar is grabbed and the drywall gives way. There is only one way to have a secure grab bar, if you need to then open up the wall and put a wall stud or better yet a crippled stud. securely onto the top and bottom plate of the wall. You might need to also remove the tub walls if they are a plastic liner but it needs to be done to do it right.
