Football finance is complex. Manchester United’s finance is even more complex. Manchester United are unlike any other football club in the world. As Laurie Whitwell writes, due to the complexity of their finances, their profit must never drop below £65million.
In a year of uncertainties could Manchester United fall below that £65million mark?
    What would be the consequence?

Thats the dumbest thing Ive heard. All they say is find a manager with great scouts academy and win trophies. The problem was players are going to other clubs to play football cause of many reasons friends family listeningbto wrong advice. If you get a chance to play for united you go. It opens up doors financially for you and family and after football with all their investors and companies you can find a job after football. But players dont see that, cause the opposite of not going to a big club is financial security for you and family thats the downside of football.

      @theicekiller7574 Před 3 lety +110

Because they keep changing managers who have different philosophies and it's making their team without a vision. For example Mourinho wanted strong CBs, now OGS wants CBs that are good with the ball. Or one manager wants to play a 4231, another wants to play a 352 and when they come they need to make signings. A DOF would have a plan for the direction the team wants to go and what players to sign, so that the team isn't in a constant state of transition, but actually have a vision for how they want to play and who to buy

Please correct me if I am wrong, basically Glazers bought our beloved Manchester United, in debt with high interest rates (which is how middle class people like us can buy small flats) but they are paying the debt from the money Man Utd makes and not from their pocket (which is how middle class people like us, usually repay) but if Man Utd makes a lot of money, that money can (and most probably does) go to the owners which they can use as they see fit. So basically us fans give our hearts out, the players and the manager give their all and Glazers make the money.

Uh, you are wrong. Way wrong. You have a misguided understanding of what "debt" is and hold the equally misguided and naïve notion of what it means to make a profit. Giving your "heart out" is free. MU is an active club that is playing games in public. Hence, your "heart" is getting value in exchange. If you "pay" to attend a game or for a shirt, or whatever, as long as they don't prevent you from entering the stadium on game day or they renege on handing over the shirt, you got exactly what you paid for. But it seems you believe that you "deserve" more for all the feelings you've "spent" and that perhaps it is you that should profit. Interesting how you paint the Glazers as the bad guys.

@@noelrockz1 you have no idea. United kept all their staff and paid for them and invested in players. Other clubs tottenham liverpool arsenal laid off staff got govt bailouts and brought players with tax payer dollars. It shows the class of the club. Players wernt their to buy or come or clubs were wanting rediculous fees. Now players know if they want to move they run down their contracts ifbtheir good enough to go to a top club. Each strategy is the same. With all clubs. Double up in all positions with qaulity. Buy the best youth players to cover for injuries of first team. All clubs are doing it depending on their team and players they need. Chelsea brought top young qaulity players now they wanna double up or they keep certain players for time being. Arsenal are needing to buy qaulity first team then they can double up with qaulity bench players. City has done this. Liverpool is in a tough spot its more about qaulity than age but their gonna need youth and qaulity coming thru for older players if they lose qaulity. See depending on your sqaud the end result is the same also they have more domestic cups to play.Thats why the premier league is the best league the only way to make it competitive was to make each club wealthy so they can all have top players.thats why other sports have salary caps were top players are spread around but what happened in football the top 1 or 2 clubs brought up all the best players in the league in the 90s when investors brought in. So the likes of ajax celtic rangers other top clubs benfica who were top clubs in europe all struggled. Now when your selling commercial packages to countries they wanna watch premier league who wants to buy and pay for a lower team to watch in other leagues fans aint interested they are only interested in top club rivalries cause you have to pay dollars to watch.

Nope, bcoz banks will increase the interest of the debts.
United didn't spend lavishly bcoz they wanted to support the staff without taking Govt aid, while teams like Spurs, Liverpool used govts aid to support staff and used their own finances for signing players.
Arsenal layed off many staff and now is signing 40million players, clearly they had the money. They didn't care about their staff.

Now thier doubling up positions with top players and hopefully the deadwood will leave to replace. Its how you do it if you want a top club like city has shown. They also brought before players in certain posotions leave thats what you do you buy before you sell. Cb is different they need to sell 2 cb to buy one world class cb, Then if one of those players get injured you have top class youth to back up. Arsenal are trying to do same buying top players this window or trying too they will use same formula. Liverpool is more about qaulity than age yes their top players are getting older yes mane and salah and so on might not have speed they have in up coming years their gonna need reinforcements asap in next 2 seasons or top youth coming thru.chelsea are smart they got top younger players so their gonna try and double up with qaulity next 2 seasons.

Obviously spending money doesn't guarantee success but spending for right players like liverpool does work. United is a club with huge reputation, public image and makes enough money to challenge clubs like barca and madrid. The problem is the poor recruitment of players, huge wages and signing players because of hype and not talent.
Club finds itself in a position with no clear ambition, a team with average players, a coach with relies on form and players on huge wages. We can neither sell nor buy players, but owners still make money because of the club image. Wait for 5-6 years and we will be like ac or inter milan.

That's the trouble with United. This is ALL they care about now. They don't seem to be as preoccupied with winning silverware or playing in the CL anymore. They've become happy to just bask in the 'afterglow' of the Ferguson era, while doing pretty much nothing about the here and now.
Covid hasn't really affected any of the Premier league clubs yet - but it will, and I think United could be among the hardest hit. My guess is that they've lost a heck of alot of fans from South East Asia over the last seven years. Fans who have either 'defected' to City, or Liverpool. And so because of this, the club have become totally 'obsessed' with making a profit and looking at their profit margins.
They've completely lost sight of the fact that they are a football club, and football clubs should put their fans first - not profit first. United will get the message eventually, but by then they'll have shed even more fans from around the world - shocked at how the club have 'abandoned' them, but happy to follow other clubs instead. Clubs who play more exciting football. Something United used to be all about.
I'm not saying United are on the road to becoming like AC Milan - but the signs are beginning to be visible.

So the market shrinks to find qaulity players or to buy you hope players are coming off contract. And top clubs are avoiding buying off their rivals or they put top price tags on players so their rivals cant get them or they tell them to pay top dollar to help them buy players. My (Sal Musa's) take on Uniteds 2020 summer transfer window .
I think it's a very poor / risky transfer window.
I would rate it 3/10. It's more quantity than quality and most certainly not attending to our needs of the starting 11 where we need strengthening the most.
    1.. Two teenagers,
both wingers. May or may not succeed in the future but are definitely not going to improve our starting 11, have little or no experience at the highest level. More of a gamble. Perhaps, like our 1st team we are lacking acadamy players as well in that area.
    My score 5/10.
    2. One of the kids", Amad Traore, having played only 3 top flight games, is very expensive. If we paying 19 rising upto 37 million for him why did we not pay that for a world class proven goalscorer HAALAND who would have costed less!! Lost HAALAND because of Ed Woodward's ego.
    4/10.
    3. Cavani.
Panic buy, over the hill. Again it's a gamble. More of hope than conviction. Has the experience however he scored only 4 goals last season. United are a pacy counter attacking side I don't know how Cavani will deal with the pace of the youth upfront. He could hold up play. He was a free agent all summer. He wanted to go to Athletico / Benfica. Surely was not on our plans else we would not have waited till deadline day. I'm on the line, could go either way like bargain Zlatan or flop Falcao.
    4/10.
    4. Alex Telles.
IMO decent buy, in an area where we needed a player Fortunately in his last year so got him cheap, Ed and Matt did everything to mess it up as well. Should cement his place as our LB in place of injury prone and unreliable Shaw.
    Glad we got him.
    7.5/10.
    5. Donny Van Beek .
Very good player, the only deal we did without a fuss. I think with Pogba not upto the mark, Beek needs to be given a chance in the starting 11.
Most of the Ajax youth who have progressed to their 1st team are always hard working and very talented. DVB seems that type of a player. If we use him well he could serve us for ages. So far Ole has not given him the opportunity.
    7.5/10
    6. Sancho.
Wasted all summer trying to bargain for 15 million pounds. One of the best wingers in world football, at 20 his value will only go up. Currently rated the 3rd most valuable player in the world! He wanted to move to United, a Manchester lad, would have settled in well.
I think Ed and Matt incompetency and lack of professionalism was expose yet again. Became more of an ego game and as usual Ed Woodward and Matt Judge made an ass of themselves.
    Disgraceful.
    0/10.
    7. Center Backs!!
    Lack of signings.
The area United needed player/s the most. By far our weakest area. Not one, not one of the 7 CBS United have are upto the mark.
This should have been the priority. I'm shocked not even an enquiry was made for any CB let alone buy one.
Have no idea what Ole and Ed are thinking.
I hope Tuanzebe recovers from his long injury and the kid Mengi can somehow take over those positions. Am sure they can't be worse than Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly, Rojo, Mensah or Jones. If I had the opportunity I would show most of them the door and overhaul that position.
    0/10.
    8. Out going.
I can't imagine why we have not offloaded so many unwanted 1st team players. Yes they are on high wages and most team won't touch them. United could have cut costs and torn down the contracts of players like Jones and Rojo at the very least. United sold Smalling who probably is better than most of the CBS we have left at the club and yet he was the one sold without buying anyone else!
    1/10.
    9. Romero.
What a gentleman. He does not deserve United the way we have treated him. A class keeper. Too good to be a 2nd choice keeper let alone a 3rd choice which he is now with the return of Henderson. It's a sin what we are doing. We should have let him go for his own career and playing time. If not sold should have let him go on a loan at the very least. He would be a 1st choice at most of the teams in 1st flight football across Europe.
    0/10.
    10. Offloading Dalot, Andreas ( loan) as well as couple of youth players was the right thing to do.
    5/10.
    11. Dembele from Barca.
    We dodged a bullet.
Am glad this did not happen. Over priced, injury prone, too much money on transfer and wages. Barca were looking to cash in on their flop. Who better than Ed Woodward. We ended up not getting him not because of Ed or Matts wisdom but more so because Dembele was not wanting to leave Barca.
    9/10.

Their actually on track you can see when players go in january they have brought positions before players leave. Thats the rule in football you never sell a player in a position and then buy after that was mistakes clubs have made years ago. United just have to qaulify for champions league. Their CB they want is on final year nxt season. Cavani is great cover not a panic buy united waited until end of window to see what would happen, if they brought sancho they would be doomed they have brought young players to replace in academy like 6 or 7 thats alot of money for those players and they are qaulity they have replaced not so good youth players with top class in their age. now they have a womans team they brought 2 of the best womans players in football. They had to extend matic contract cause their is a huge risk finding a replacement. If Im thinking right they might try and go for a big fish in mbappe they will give it go whats their to lose theyll try you never know it will be a coup cause real madrid have to take pay cuts to staff and players to buy players. Thats why they havent spent. United are just 2 or 3 players away. Hopefully dalot plays well comes back and becomes rb with bissaka. Lb is covered. Now they just need to double up on positions. Rojo and jones goes they can bring in alessio romagnoli arguably the best defender in the world by many italian fans the most gifted of any cb. Then they got cover in bailly lindelof and their academy players. The wings are set with greenwood james rashford martial theyll probably keep cavani for striker and try for mbappe. Then its the middle of park fred doubles up with pogba bruno doubles up with van da beek mctominay doubles up with matic. And we still have mata so they will look to buy for midfield but we have got amazing technically giftedyouth talent in midfield oe upfront. This club is on track. The hard part is qaulifying or winning champions league.

This is irrelevant. It only means that the bank CAN instantly recall the loan. However, the bank almost certainly would not do this given that this would not be in their best interests. Worst case is they probably have to make parachute payments or there's an increase in interest.

So, is this why VAR stepped in to ensure they secured a UCL spot, for added revenue?

Didn’t Spurs and Liverpool back out on their furlough stance? Plus Spurs taking out the government backed loan is a good thing for the economy and the government, as long as they repay their loan (which I imagine they will)

The next two years football clubs have a huge funding gap to fill with empty stadiums. Prem clubs are either stupid, optimistic or have found alternative funding because their spending has been crazy. Most competitive league I have seen.

The Glazer's wealth is built on First Allied Corporation whose main holding is shopping malls across the US. As a business philosophy, they're built on debt because pre-pandemic, this helped them grow quickly. I wonder how the pandemic is affecting their ability to service that debt.

Thats a good thing the banks right off their taxes they get yax breaks investors companies invest in club cause you dont lose profit on the stock market. Talk about a risk every 3 months you have to sustain a progit above 65 million and guess what the bank says its no risk. Their owned by the bank talk about smart business.
