Getting into Oxbridge isn't as hard as you think...

  • Growing up, I had always thought that going to Cambridge or Oxford was only for the immensely wealthy or immensely intelligent- now I am an undergraduate there and am neither of those things. So many people get put off of applying because they think that Oxbridge is out of reach, but in this video I hope to destigmatize application and have compiled multiple sources to show that it's not as hard as you may have thought to get in, and ways you can boost your chances of a successful application.
    Whether you are in Year 9 or 10 and just beginning your journey, or in Year 11 or college and starting to seriously consider further education, I hope this video makes you at least consider giving Oxbridge a go- I mean, what really is the worst that can happen?!
    As promised, here are the resources discussed in the video and that you may find useful:
    Apprenticeship stuff: educationhub.b...
    Oxford application stats: www.ox.ac.uk/a...
    Gov Oxbridge data researchbriefi...

    And than there are those like me, who believe they have a 105% chance of getting in, despite having no formal qualifications ( being in yr ten). I fully believe I can get in on delusion alone, and am proud to say I’m spreading the attitude to my friends as well

    5:44 Applying for lesser known subjects with less applicants and less competition actually worked for me
    Originally when I was in Year 12 I planned to study Natural Sciences in Cambridge but after realising the high number of applicants I switched to Earth Sciences in Oxford and got in

    • @humzino6630
      @humzino6630 Před 9 dny +8

      No, im pretty sure he still said applicants from private schools still disproportionately get in. The reason why the majority of students are from state schools is probably because they get loads and loads more applications from state school students, since most people go to state schools and not private schools

    Should I still do an essay competition even if im planning on doing a non essay subject (eg computer science) or should I focus more on something else such as a coding project

    • @ezubetru295
      @ezubetru295 Před dnem

      Do both. Write a computer science based essay on something you enjoy then do a coding project on it. You can put it in your personal statement in a way where you can say I did this essay, found it so interesting that I wanted to take it further by actually doing some coding

    • @LewisSeal
      @LewisSeal  Před dnem +1

      Well I think in that case it’s much of a muchness, a coding project would equally show just as much enthusiasm in the course beyond what you learn in the classroom. I mean if you can do both then you’re laughing. Have a look at what the course consists of because there’s a surprising number of subjects at Oxbridge that are essay based. Could even email into the admissions of a college that offer Computer Science and ask for a breakdown of the course. Doing an essay comp or a coding project both show enthusiasm for the subject and an ability for independent study though so go for it!!!
