It was the left that let Germany and Russia build Nord Stream 2 pipeline and allowed Putin to Blackmail the E.U. and attack Ukraine. The Left stopped Energy exports to the E.U.. The Left caused worldwide inflation. The list goes on and on.
I think there is more than just inflation Europe has to worry about. When the worst possible scenario happens, with no gas coming down the pipe line in the depth of winter, Germany will shut down almost totally, so will many of Europe's industries. But that is just one of the major worries European leaders need to deal with. Domestic heating would be an even bigger problem. A very cold house will certainly make the Germans very cranky. In fact, I hesitate to say that it might even be a health issue when weaker people can't stay warm, and what about the young and the very young?
Europe has dug a huge hole at the behest of America, and America took the ladder away. Now they are stranded !

Considering this, it is safe to say that Russia is not a reliable partner regardless of the excuses they try to find. All of the countries which cut ties with Gazprom are currently doing better and have secured their gas supplies on better prices than the ones that didn't.

Very interesting that it is expected to get worse in winter. It made me think in the context of households that winter preparation is done and expensed in summer/Autumn. Say Winter -Tires expenses for example. If inflation negatively impacts households and thuer income and spending power, how will spending on winterizing vehicles be affected. Will that affect accident rates on the roads this winter. Throw on commercial vehicles and the increased cost of maintenance for and during winter. I agree, for sure it is going to be a very interesting winter due to the impact of the War and all the corresponding negative reverberations. Stay safe.

I am from the Czech republic and I have to say it was not only Petr Fiala who was calling for immediately cut off from russian gas. BTW He used to be against EU but when he became a prime minister, he changed his opinion for about 180°. So what he is saying now... who cares? Government led by him also still has done almost nothing to help people/companies with very high energy prices. He's probably last one premier in EU who behaves like this. BTW: Electricity (=energy) and its high prices are another (funny) story. Almost horror just because of this government. Czech republic produce it very cheaply and then 'send' it to the Germany and then buys it back and sell it for very, very, high price. So politicians in EU just trying to put out fire they caused. This is not about Ukraine, Russia... no, this is about them. It's their fault.

I am also from the Czech Republic (with quite significant roots in Germany), and therefore also from EU. This means, that currently I am in a region full of degenerate and decadent people who have lived way too long in peace and prosperity and therefore got ... let's say "stagnant" - to use an euphemism. The past governments made themselves dependent on cheap Russian gas, everyone joined the party. Percentage of Russian gas in CZ went up from 74% in 2000 to almost 100% in 2021. „Sa sdorowje!“ I also happen to produce solar power plants and I have not met a more ignorant people regarding photovoltaics than is the Czechs. "Is it worth it?", "In winter PV doesn't help you.", "Solar barons"... yeah but "The government has done nothing". As I said - degenerates all over, EU needs to rejuvenate from that. I for one have ensured my family`s autarky.

The bigger problem is that the EU allowed speculation with gas. Austria or Germany have long term agreements with Russia. And the Russians do till now supply accordingly to cheap prices. The problem is on the Western side. Because of European panic the gas can be sold to extreme high prices. So the energy companies - often owned by the state - rather sell it instead of fulfilling their duty for ensuring the need of the people. Also the prices for electricity that is not produced from gas are exploding. Also water power and other "green energy" became very expensive.
That is also connected with the need of the states to get again some money after having stolen tax money in the name of Covid 19 for the pharmaceutical industry and other institutions that are often close to the ruling parties. Inflation helps the governments in several ways to get rid of their debts. More taxes and at the same time low rates of interest. We are witnessing one of the greatest robberies of history.
