- Using Pitch-Class Set (PCS) 6-7, create a composition with melody and harmony derived from this source material. Interpreting PCS 6-7 as a symmetric pitch-scale, we derive Schillinger Melodic Forms, chained into a continuity through transposition and rhythm superimposition. Pedal point technique establishes a Primary Axis and rootedness on pitch-class C. Using set properties such as the interval vector and the set complement we obtain harmony with incomplete 7th chords, subsets with chord tension level control based on Hindemith chord group classification, and polychords with stacked triads. All techniques are combined in a synthesizer orchestral composition example. Companion document and source material available on Patreon.

Thank you!
Thanks for this video . I really enjoyed your composition. It's quite amazing how much variety and interest can be derived from the exclusive use of one hexachord. I've been exploring composition with hexachords for a few years and have composed a number of pieces for each of the fifty hexachordal pitch class sets. Below is a link to another piece composed with set class 6-7.... same collection .. but completely different mood.

@dougwilde You're welcome, thanks for the kind words. The project you're describing, i.e., composing pieces for all hexachord sets must be a major undertaking (a kind of "The Well-Tempered Hexachord"). Listened to your wonderful alternative music with the same Pitch-Class Set 6-7 and put a comment on your channel.
@@FransAbsil I've written at least one jazz piece and one "chamber music" piece for each of the 50 hexachords. Many of the jazz pieces have included improvisation I've tried two ways , one , with improv strictly following the transformations of the hexachord and two, letting the improviser impose a set of conventional chord changes ( and hence chord scales) that are suggested by the hexachord transformation. Here is an example with a sax player using the first, stricter method... the video includes a transcription.
