  • The chapter on polychords from the Vincent Persichetti book on Twentieth Century Harmony is the basis for this video on composing music with S(6p) polychords with two triadic units (major/minor triads). From stacking combinations of two building blocks, a set of major triads with symmetrically distributed roots SMR4i and two hexatonic triad pairs HTP we create two-layer polychord continuities. From these we derive melody, single layer options with chromatically ascending bass or pedal point, and other modifications. Various options are applied in an orchestral example composition with ternary form.

Great video, love the Persichetti book and enjoy watching your application of it.

@bigdog38au Thanks for the kind feedback. I read the book for the first time at an age where it hardly made sense to me. Now, after a recent reread, and a more detailed study of specific chapters I got inspired to share his insights and 'tips and tricks' with a wider audience and come up with application examples. I hope to do more videos on other sections from the Persichetti book. Glad you enjoyed the watch!

Love the stuff you do. Awhile ago you took a suggestion of mine for a video, and I don't remember if I commented on it-it was a fabulous video! and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of this.

@isaacbeen2087 I checked the list of comments and did find a suggestion about a year ago (the Schillinger Instrumental Forms video). The reference to the Elliott Carter musical language was made again recently. Indeed, the All-Interval Tetrachord has been used in the tutorials on Pitch-Cass Set application. Hope you'll continue enjoying the content on this channel. Thanks for the positive feedback.

@lynnlo Thanks for sharing your opinion. From the channel comments I conclude that most viewers do very much appreciate the content. I assume the channel is suffering from the Google/CZcams algorithm. Infrequent uploads, no shorts, limited views, likes and comments (engagement) reduce the YT recommendations. It seems to happen around a certain number of subscribers and I know that others have suffered from this phenomenon, with some giving up altogether. For this channel: apart from my website there is no promotion. I am not active on social networks, there's no clickbait or advertising involved. This is the natural growth curve for a niche subject, which seems to be slowing down indeed. I intend not to change the tutorial production policy though. My regular viewers might help or have ideas about how to increase visibility. Let's see what happens next. Thanks for the moral support!

    So you play Go?

@georgemc7520 So you found out the design approach to this thumbnail; well spotted! Tripclops eyeballs as game tokens. No I can't play Go, don't have the patience for chess, and will be beaten in most games and real life initiatives. Thanks for the feedback.
