    Terms definition:
    Eye sight is defined by one’s ability to see images up close and far away (e.g. in an eye examination through charts with letters and numbers on them). At this point, the optometrist is testing for visual acuity. How accurately are your eyes seeing the image?
    The term “vision” defines if the eyes working in sync, or what is called “binocularity.” When the eyes are not working together, or one eye is working harder than the other, it is common to experience eye strain and headaches. If left untreated, eyes with poor binocularity can worsen significantly.

    This is very interesting in relation to EMDR (eye movement desensitisation reprogramming), a therapeutic technique also using side-to-side eye movements, but always very fast. I've done a fair bit of this. I did wonder as I started doing Feldenkrais whether slower movements might also work, and it seems that, for me at least, they do. Maybe they even work better. I found the link between the eyes and the back of the neck very clear and all of it was related to strong emotion, mainly intense sadness. The first time I had to stand up, I was really overwhelmed by it, as if a big weight on the back of my neck was forcing me down and also occluding my vision from above. My face was contorted as if I might start crying. I noticed that my eyeline was quite low. By focusing on the link between the eyes and the neck, I got clear of the weight and my eyeline raised.
    I have a pretty strong hunch that Feldenkrais could be used to develop some powerful psychotherapeutic techniques. I actually came to Feldenkrais through Besel Van Derk Kolk's book on trauma recovery, 'The Body Keeps the Score.' He only mentions Feldenkrais very briefly, but other things he talks about might point the way, notably the idea of 'completing' certain motions that are bottled up in one, e.g. a desire to hit out or a desire to cry. Last night, thinking in these terms, I felt what might help me was work on the face. First I found Emily Anderson's Jaw Release video, really a whole series of eye and face Feldenkrais exercise presented very quickly, then this. Of all the Feldenkrais classes, these have been the most powerful for me, giving me a sense of lightness, cheeriness and clarity, but also, as I say, in the case of this video, bringing up more difficult emotion too.

It's such a great pleasure to hear your christal clear explanations that I will just beginn to do the lessons not only in Hebrew after the original recording of Moshe, but also after your so sincer and clear speach. Your videos have also no noise in the background... I am really touched by your fantastic teaching!! Please, coninue doing such videos with ALL !! the lessons of Moshe. Thank you for your splendid presentation of the Feldenkrais Method after so many decades of traumatic distortion of this method by many others, who want to be more clever as Moshe Feldenkrais himself.

    Dear Alfons, thank you for your good excersises. I am a physical therapist in the Netherlands and I give your youtube videos to some of my patients. So we work together, without you knowing we do;). For your information on this lesson, I can tell you that excersises for the upper neck (C0, C1, C2) are done with eye movements. Especially ecersises for head age and mobilisation on the upper neck. It works very good!

    Although it did'nt make such difference to my vision, this lesson really helped me perceive how my eyes and neck were working against each other before the lesson, in a very harmful way. I started being able to coordinate these movements in a more fluid and comfortable way. Thankyou very much!

    I did this lesson for the second time today, with an interim of a few months. About 12 minutes in my eyes scanned so smoothly across the horizon I involuntarily had to move my spine in lateral s curves. Quite a remarkable feeling.

    Thank you Alfons! For me this lesson is really not easy. I am very short-sighted and I did it over 3 days, each time for about 15 minutes because I fell asleep so often. As I understand it, the brain needs this time to process the new information. Hope I can do the lesson in full one day :D

    Dear Alfons- thank you for your wonderful gift of this practice for the eyes. I have lost most of my central vision in my left eye and am doing many approaches therapeutically to restore my sight. I recently discovered my left eye was unable to focus on distance (saw only the inner surface when I wore pinhole glasses). When I followed your session here for the first time, I noticed the part of me absent was in fact my emotional body (much early childhood trauma re fear, pain and horror in what I saw) and so I relaxed further with a few tears to enter full emotional presence and an alive feeling in my chest, when looking straight ahead. This was a true integration for me and a big step forward. Then, when looking up and down and back to centre, I became aware the 'centre' was actually looking down below centre- which revealed my fear of confronting the horror and shame that I witnessed in front of me way back when... again I was required to make an emotional expansion, breathing to allow and let pass my blocked emotion; resulting in my newfound ability to look straight ahead with ease. I call these major breakthroughs for me.
    Also my myopia was reduced, as I could see distance more clearly midway and at the end of your lesson.
    My sincere gratitude to you, Alfonso, for so generously passing on your awareness and knowledge of the The Feldenkrais Approach! :-)

    Second time I have done this lesson. Wow powerful. At the end stuck on floor for 20 min while right ankle rearranged itself (had an injury in it 30 years ago.) eyes feel much better organised in relation to the body. They were very stuck and jumpy, did not want to go to the left very far. Now they feel happier and softer, more enquiring. Thanks Alfons.

    Dear Alfons, this powerfully opens up the integration of eyes with your neck and body movement and proproception. I can feel my whole body arch up as I look towards the ceiling, then down to my feet. Then horizon, and eyes back to the center line concepts are something I am trying to work to refine. Really sneaky profound stuff. My tongue movement from side to side is also strangely effective coordinating with eye swing back and forth. As a 58 yr old tennis player I need all the hand eye efficacy I can get. Peace, Kevin from Maine

    I started freaking out about vision loss and so thought I would follow this video for the second time and see what happened. Beforehand, I had taken a non-diagnostic online eye test a few times for each eye and my scores were somewhere between 20/40 and 20/30. For reference, during my teenage years, I took a couple eye tests at the optometrist's and scored between 20/15 and 20/20, so after a decade or so there has definitely been some vision loss. After doing the video, my scores started to be between 20/30 and 20/20. These results are hardly scientific, but they're certainly encouraging!

      my eyes are genetically crooked and according to the optometrist I should have problems with vision. I score near perfect scores though. It's worth investing time here, vision is super important.

    Oh, exercices with eyes are alway really exausting for me. Went I did yoga class it was always the exercice I struggled with. This time it was different. More soft movement, you leading the exercice and all the comments is really supportive. After I felt more flex and soft in the back of my head, but I found that there is a lot of pressure back there. I will repeat slowly to see if it soften more a little each time. Thank you for your great lessons. I am getting aware of my body, like if I was disconnected after living out of stress and fear for too long. Lots to repair and re-educate but your lessons are just helping me so much. Great job you are doing, again, thank you.

    Greetings, Alfons: I'm a dental hygienist. I utilize loupes (magnifiers) and an LED light to perform. I practice this eye improvement exercise daily after work. My experience is healing and relaxing and restorative. My entire body responds positively to Feldenkrais exercises. I appreciate your life's work. Thank you, thank you.....

    Hello Alfons, This was a very interesting lesson. In the beginning I unable to move my eyes to the right without the eye opening. In your reply to one my previous comments after doing the hip joint video, you observed that my situation my be higher up in the head or neck. I thought your reply was perceptive, and in this lesson you said that difficulty moving eyes to the right may mean tension in the right side of the neck. It is definitely more difficult to look either to the left or right, and up and down with eyes closed. My eyes seem smaller, than they were years ago, and this is probably due to the physical imbalances, mostly on the right side, invoking compensatory tension and secondary problems elsewhere. I shall have to practice this lesson more. It is definitely very profound and far reaching in its implications and applications. And the comments of others are certainly edifying as well. I found at the end of the lesson that my oesophagus seemed to open up and I could feel life force circulating due to the movements. Sincere thanks and appreciation.

    Wonderful experience for me. I noticed that my left eye movement was slower and I could feel the neck muscles more. I also noticed that looking down made the neck muscles ache a little. Thank you!

    These exercises have a soothing effect on me, my body, my sensing, my being aware. The richt eye was slightly more blurred than the left eye. And now the blur is smaller. My left eye is now more unsharp... Life of the eyes: so strange... Great lesson, Alfons. thank you.

    This is the first time for me for such experience. I feel my body more grounded, more balanced, when standing at the end.. I feel the space around me wider and as if my oura is wider or my borders are wider.also I feel as if my eyes are wider and see things clearer. Also feel relaxed.     This was fantastic. I find my vertical midline runs along my spine and nose My midpoint seems to to center somewhere between the tip of my nose and my eyes themselves. Generally it felt like they aligned with horizontal plane of my eyes yet at times the seemed a bit lower. The feather look close then far as it moved off to right side. Had my eyes feeling a bit stuck when we transitioned to the same action but on the left.
    When we stood up the first time I felt so much lighter. My weight on me feet had moved a bit more onto the balls of my feet and it was much easier to have my knees slightly bent without fatigue avoiding my years of tendency to hyper flex towards the back ( I have naturally loose ligaments ). So I felt much lighter in general and my full standing alignment felt much more fluid.
    My favorite part was when we were on our belly’s. It was so very relaxing for the eyes. The right and left eye movements really smoothed out. When we stood up again I felt even lighter and was walking all around with my eyes close and I felt I had a improved stability and awareness of my soundings. 😀.
    When we were back on the floor and eyes closed moved the eyes left and right with slight head rolls I noticed to the right there was like a speed bump and I narrowed it down to a stiffness in the right neck/head muscles. I took time to body scan and found the right side of my body was pulling in toward the center. My right leg was shortened and pulled up inside the hip the hip was pulling up towards the ribs. And the right shoulder was pulled up towards the right ear. ( I have sciatica flaring on my right sides so a bit of self protection?) I breathed into the right side of my body and tried to soften into the right side of my body and thought “Lengthen soften”. That helped some.
    My improvisation in this series was to do figure 8’s with my eyes crossing both up and down across the midline and then do full circles both right and left. As well, as a asterisk pattern.: up, down, diagonal-up left, left, diagonal-down left, right, diagonal-up right, diagonal-down right. I really wanted to play with all those points as well. As I type this I realized I did not include close and distance focus on each of the explorations. I will remember to play with that next time.

    After few times of left and right my neck was following the moment of the eyeballs..and when I was looking far the horizon my chin was going front and there was a nice rolling of my head!

    Thank you so much for this lesson. The first time I did the lesson, I got such terrible vertigo, I had to hold on to the bed, just moving my eyes with lids closed made everything spin. I am not sure why this happened. Has anyone else experienced this? The second time I did this exercise, there was a small amount of vertigo, but not like first time. After one week there was no more vertigo. Also one of the days I was moving my eyes and suddenly they felt like someone threw sand in them, very gritty. Overall I would say my vision has improved somewhat, I haven't done any measurements, but will wait a month and then go and check. I am also noticing that my eyes need a day to recover, so doing these every second day works better for me. Thank you once again, Alfons!

      Hi Thea, great observations, thank you for sharing! The eyes can be strongly linked to balance. Therefore, when you start to do this kind of learning, and start to differentiate your eye movements from other functions (such as maintaining balance) you might experience vertigo. There should be plenty of literature about this (maybe Bates is a good starting point?). The more independently your eyes are, and the more experience you gather, the better it will be. Think of: you can use them for balance, but you don't have to. Having choices means freedom. And better balance. In the long run probably better eye sight too (because they get less strained and are more free). Best greetings, Alfons

    At first I found this lesson very strenuous on the eyes, and also I had some emotional resistance to it. But by the end, I felt very present with my vision. The day after, I had gained flexibility in my neck, turning left and right, amazing!

    I've had 3 operations on my left eye, and the movement felt completely different, left to right. After 30min I was exhausted. I will try it some more to train my left eye, it's needed. Thanks for this class!

    Interesting correlation between my Scoliosis and where my 'midline' seemed to be i.e. over to the side of the concavity! Also when I stood up my weight was super-grounded in my feet and my head and shoulders had moved way back compared to where they normally are. My 'horizon' or eye-line was up towards the ceiling!

    Wow it was interesting to notice how my heart rate actually went up during that lesson and at times breathing became heavy like when I would workout... I needed many breaks but this was so powerful

    Thank you for this lesson...when you described the eyeballs hanging when lying on your belly...I became ill while doing that. I don't know why..It could be some equilibrium difficulty.
    Other than that I really enjoyed this and look forward (pardon the pun) to doing it again and feeling the neck muscles.

    Today is the eleventh or tenth time I have practiced this lesson. Eight have been in the last couple of weeks. I am doing research about the eyes for a diploma in somatic education. I am really thankful and appreciate your generous sharing of knowledge and of a method not to known or practiced here in Perú. I wonder if you have any videos for People that havent walked for a while because of disease and are trying todo recover mobility. I also wanted to know if you would consider a Spanish version of some of your audios. I will be happy to help maybe with this and one or two more if you would like to consider that. Thanks again not only for this but for many other videos you posted that have been useful and helpful so far.

      A lot more can be said about the eyes. In Feldenkrais we often speak about two big topics: 1. Light created the eyes (somehow) 2. Specialisation. You can see when children don't get enough light and study a lot with very poor light they will need to wear glasses. Also in terms of specialisation this is the most difficult thing to do. Eliminate all but a few movements the eyes will deteriorate. Therefore we try to move the eyes through their whole range of possibilities to help them. Big topics with a lot to say.     Thanks so much for relating to me so I don't feel like I"m the only one with these issues. I love your videos. Two more questions: Feldenkrais always says to move the eyes with your head, which I know is good. But my kids offer me a suggestion of when I'm reading without having to look down so much, to keep my head in place and just look down with my eyes. Is that a good suggestion or wouldn't that cause strain?? Also, I want to get to using shoes with lower heels but right now my shoes are 12 mm. can I still work and achieve on keeping good alignment when walking with shoes that have a slight heel on that?? What are your opinions?

    My right eye is weaker and I have a catch on the right shoulder. I could not ‘find’ the centre between the eyes while lying face down. This exercise, though long enough combined the eye movement with the body. Thank you, will practice for some days.

    I got tight suboccipitals all the
    time and I noticed they tightened on me during this lesson. I realized
    the whole time I was looking straight up at the “horizon” and then
    something clicked. They say when using the computer screen to have the
    majority of “text” at 30 degrees below the horizon right so taht eyes
    and neck don’t tense. Because i know the eyes are connected to the
    suboccipitals. WHen at the end of the lesson you mentioned looking at a
    soft spot down where the ceiling meets the wall, things softened up on
    me. Should we always be letting our eyes look down off the horizon in
    everything we do then?? I think I’ve been “trying to hard” (hence the
    tight jaw right) to keep my head up and not go into forward head
    posture, even when walking outside, that I think that’s what is tensing
    my suboccipitals. AM I correct in my thinking?? Maybe this could be a
    life changer for me because I was working so hard (I Know, don’t get on
    me,) but to sense if I was doing things lightly, that I realized that
    my eyes weren’t even moving with my jaw until you said something, so I
    definitely need to revist this lesson many times, but the big question
    is: Should the eyes always be down from “horizon” to keep suboccipitals
    relaxed, during all lessons, so you shouldn’t be looking straight up at
    the ceiling? ANd should it be the same in all normal activity?? Thanks

      there's smaller muscles about everywhere. We work with them through making small movements, slow, lying down (resting the big so called "anti gravity muscles"). Look at the spine, if you disregard the big surface muscles, deep down the vertebrae are covered in smaller muscles, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of them.

    I suffer from Uveitis, feel eyes are relaxed after doing this lesson. Also tired. Does anyone has experience with this method and I wonder if it is good or bad to do this while taking prednisolon eye drops which can cause early cataract or glaucoma; anyone knows if these movements are good/bad for eyepressure?.       Take breaks as you see fit, also no need to do the whole session. Do parts, stay within your comfort zone. My latest videos (twist in side sitting) fit with this session in terms of eye work.
      Btw, my mom was diagnosed with early cataract, but with a plant based diet it completely cleared. Doctor was quite surprised.

    Ha ha half way through I opened my eyes then it self very clear.
    Ss...I do meditation then I also I notice my breathing is not smooth when I have a nose mild block , the side of my shoulder injury.

    I was super losing balance trying to stand with my eyes closed. Does this mean I need to work on this alot more?? I have lots of tightness in the occipital muscles and I know they affect the eyes and thus balance as well.

      Maybe.... probably... improved proprioception for the whole body... I would guess this will take off strain from the eyes and neck etc

      @@ImprovingAbility One more question, maybe 2. After you have us lay down on our stomach to feel the weight of the eyeballs, do we continue to stay there for the following left/right work and is all that left/right work done with eyes closed??

      in my experience you can improve various properties of perceived (subjective) perception (e.g. depth perception) within a few hours. There might be a correlation between time invested and improvement. I'm not aware of any studies or statistics. Success stories are personal anecdotes. Like the story of David Webber for example, who went from "I could barely count fingers in front of my face and my visual acuity was 20/800. I was declared legally blind" to "I have been without medication for my eyes and today my acuity is 20/25" with this kind of Feldenkrais lessons www.davidwebberseeingclearly.com/about/
