Must have been Late 1994/Early 1995. You can see they've started construction on the Go Karts which opened 95' but the east side is still completely barren- which became part of the park in 95'
Really intresting, remember many of those old rides thanks for sharing. Nice to see the old boating lake as well, fond memories of Mr Thompsons Railway.
Hi there, we've been enjoying watching this. (especially as we make walks in soulful cities and have just filmed in in Leigh on sea and Southend), so it's lovely to see your viewpoint. It's also our home town. Thanks for taking the time to add it.
Me and my mum got stuck on the barracuda once. We couldn't get the things undone so we had 2 goes, that was cool lol. I also loved sky lab, they ruined that ride at Thorpe park.
Mr Duncan's video diary They’re the same type of ride. They just make it too quick at TP, you’re only upside down for about one revolution and it’s going back down again. I know it’s busy but still.
@@holliexbx5613 ok last year I went on zodiac and it was not busy I asked can we do the full cycle and he said yes the operator. By the way I went on enterprise first at Alton towers before Skylab and Skylab is older I can tell by the axel that lifts it to the vertical position and the whole way it's designed is late 70s looking I am going to consider a visit next year I know it's not that good as it used to be and I remembered raging river in the 90s my 2nd ever log flume
Does anyone have any footage or pictures of The Fantasy Dome that used to be there?, it was my favourite attraction as a kid but all memories of it seem to have been lost, and there isn't much footage of it anywhere sadly
@@MrSouthessex Surprisingly there is still very little of the outside, I managed to find an old photo where you can see the paintwork on the front. Pretty sure they got rid of it before I was even born so I guess Ill never know.
Where’s the go-cart track? When I moved away in the late 80’s there was a go-cart track right next to the pier, my uncle went on it when I was 4, I was desperate to go with him but my parents said it was for over 16 ‘s only; I waited and waited till my 16 birthday just to have a go.Those were the days when 12 years seemed an eternity, now it’s a blink of an eye!!!
@@thelwulfeoforlic6482 i believe this was around the time the boating lake was filled in and an access way under the pier created to join the newer part of what is now called adventure island to the older...so some space up alongside the pier was needed its all back much the same as it was before
This is pure gold. Back when southend felt like a hidden gem. So commercialised now.
Oh my god the barracuda! the fear of getting stuck at the top was the worst! also loved skylab...my first ever 'upside down' ride!
Went on that with my daughter wouldn't touch it now though
Which ride was Barracuda?
@@largeslappy Tall whirry one :)

the barracuda was the best ride especially for falling coins lol

Is that the same Ferris wheel that now sits on (near enough) the same site calling itself Adventure Island? Good old Southend.
Note to Thorpe park 3:41 That’s the sequence you need on that ride. You need to fell like you’re going upside down for more than 1 revolution.
So many memories....the Barracuda was such a sketchy but cool ride......this is exactly how I remember it.
God I used to love Skylab I can still see and how felt when I close my eyes loved it so much wounder where or what it is now 😟

Thank you for the positive comment
Anyone remember the fun house
John Clark Yes it was near the toilets near the three shells cafe. I thought it was just me who remembered it 😁
The Barracuda looks like the new ride- Axis (my favourite ride) :-)
I remember when they were doing building work for that new area + for the new rides :-)
The barracuda is the one that is stationary at the start
Miss it like that
Same mate!
obviously i can see it haha , just looking for some close up pictures / footage!
where is this cowboy site is it in uk

Glad to hear it brought back happy memories
Holliex it’s not at Thorpe park it’s a different model

i have seen video of it but not for some time
Anyone know if there is any footage of the fantasy dome anywhere online?
Not seen any of the inside but I'm sure there must be of the outside

Its still there along side the pier i made this film in the 1990s i will be doing another one trying to use the same spots i did for this one
Oh good,, All is well in the universe; it’s just in the video it seems to be inhabited by construction machinery instead of go-carts
