"Sometimes we NAIL IT." This ad tells me that Kate, being the perfectionist that she is, is very happy with the results. I was also very encouraged when I heard that the remastering was done by Kate and James Guthrie.
Yayyy! What a way to start the day! With a KB notification! Hum.... I am excited to hear the rare tracks and the remastered ones too! Hoping for a new album soon, though. I cannot wait!!!
This is for me huger than an album of new material. The older albums have been crying out for a remaster, and now they will also be available to a wider public. Bring it on!
Kate Bush who could ever forget when she first released Wuthering Heights. Although her music that followed does go around and around in my head for weeks after I listen. I still can listen to her over and over again. Brilliant videos to. Captured my heart at first glance. Brilliant musician and dancer too.
It’s tricky indeed because even a flawed mastering can provide a certain something that is intriguing on a very subconscious level, and once it is beloved, cannot be painted over. But I’m excited and interested.
It has nothing to do with re-recorded vocals or instruments. It is more about cleaning up unintentional noise and other flaws, recalibration of sound levels and effects, and improving the quality of the original recording.
@@timchromecast Exactly. More compression (for loudness) reduces dynamic range, and Kate is all about dynamic range. So what if it is mastered low, that is what the volume knob is for.
I agree it's been shown that modern remastering is bullshit. One artist all that doesn't need it is Kate bush. 80s dynamic range is already better because it wasn't all digital then. They are just resampling those tapes, don't think it adds jack shit.
I wonder if the new remasters will be released in the streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify too. It would be a bless, cuz the current versions available have low-volume audio :/ we’re crying for any improvement of quality of those currently available versions of the old ones, like hounds of love and TSW

Kate's remastered vinyls - are awesome sounding! {class A-B subwoofer + tube full range spkrs + new cartridge → revox B77 Mkii} That's the Elixir of Life. Congrats to the Mastering Engineers ;)
I wish, but she's completely dismissed the idea. For some reason the camera footage they made was all medium shots and it isn't usable. I wish I had mortgaged my whole future to get a ticket at any cost. I didn't think that that would be the end and no one would ever see it.
Source for this? I doubt whether they would set up the cameras and then make an error like that. My take on it is that when Kate watched the recording after the tour, she didn't like the way she looked on camera, and decided to release only the live audio recording instead.
@@Skiptondesigns Cameras were only set up from several rows back. There were no stage cameras because Kate did not want it interfering with the performances on stage

Having just bought a copy of the 2018 CD remaster of 'Never for Ever' and played it back to back with the 1987 edition and THEN played sections of each track to compare them and THEN played them simultaneously, I have a question. What exactly has been done other than repackaging it? There are slight differences but absolutely NOT enough to warrant buying any more of them. More than ten years I've been waiting for someone (anyone!) to do justice to the music on CD and I'm completely underwhelmed. Thank God I didn't have enough money to justify buying the 'Remastered Part I' boxed set because if this CD's indicative of the rest of the early works I'd have felt robbed. If anyone else buys the remastered copies of any of her first four albums please let me know if you notice any marked difference in quality over the original CDs. Otherwise, 'Never for Ever' is the first AND last one I'm wasting my money on.
I am admitting in public that I am dumb! What is remastering, what will be different? Very intrigued to hear humming, will it be like the 1977 bootleg or a new song with the same name?
Its to do with the equalization, compression and other effects on the master track. All the other tracks like vocals, guitars and drums etc. are fed to the master track. Hence re-mastered. There is also the mixing where you get the volume levels of each individual track just right and have them panned either to the left, middle or right so they sit just right in the mix.
@@eamonnmcloughlin129 thank you for your reply, that makes sense now. Very excited to hear the songs now, especially The Kick Inside and The Dreaming. Very kind of you to explain.
Ha ha. Yeah I often wondered how Kate felt about having Rolf "tie that little kid down" Harris on her album. Fans would just squirm whenever he came on to talk about painting.
Really looking forward to this!! :) That said, I so hope you guys did't crush the dynamics with this effort. So many fantastic albums have been greatly diminished, even wrecked, by excessive dynamic compression. Please tell me you appreciated dynamic range. Please....
That's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this video on my feed. Most remasters are just brickwalled versions of the original and they become unlistenable. I'm sure this is not the case because Kate's music doesn't need to be any louder but I really don't know.
dr.loudness-war.info/album/list?artist=kate+bush&album= Well, her history on loudness seems quite promising. I'm sure we'll be fine. I'm really just waiting for high quality digital artwork, to be honest. We don't have any from before Aerial, everything else is scans
There's plenty of precedent for previously fantastic releases being abruptly slammed during a re-mastering. Great chunks of the Pono remasters are squashed, and if you check the DR database you'll find that a few of even Steely Dan's magnificent recordings have been wrecked during the "High Def" transmogrification. How these things happen, I have no clue. I just know to "Watch Out" for the possibility.
Frederic NAPIER thank you. i need to give Aerial and 50 Words for Snow a better listen.... I am obsessed with The Dreaming. (Is my favorite album of all time).
Tim Chromecast most likely. A couple of years back I purchased a 24bit remastered version of Mike Oldfield’s Crises, compared the sound quality to my original ripped CD version using high-end headphones, a high quality external DAC and (quite expensive!) proprietary software via my Mac. I didn’t hear any improvement in audio fidelity at all! Same goes for a number of other 24bit remastered albums from other artists and bands too, with similar results. After that experience I’m no longer into remasters or high-res audio versions of older albums I’ve already got. It’s all BS as far as I’m concerned, unfortunately. I wanted to believe!
Sometimes an improvement, sometimes not :) I think those Oldfield remasters were far more dr compessed than the original cd's ... as far as I know Kate isn't a fan of dr compression, so it should be fine. Most artists do what the labels dictate (louder, dr compression). But Kate is quite different and prefers timeless quality over temporary mastering trends.
Colin Trail remastering old albums so that, maybe they sound a little better (what actually does sound better or worse varies from person to person) is not worth repurchasing an entire catalog, particularly when they sounded good to begin with. I’ve been down that route and the actual improvements are negligible to non-existent. As for the unreleased bonus tracks, just release an album with those...
~$100 for 7 albums (The first CD collection) is actually a good deal. But since I already have all the early CDs, it's gonna be hard to justify buying them again. And $400 for the 4 Vinyl disks starts to get silly...
Not sure how one improves perfection, but I am going to find out.
