- The 51st edition of Salute was held on 13th April 2024 at Excel in London. Here's a selection of most, if not all, of the games and dioramas being displayed. Bonus points if you spot Duncan Rhodes.

Best video on salute. None of the other ones actually take the time to walk slowly and show off everything. It’s either walking quickly and talking or just super brief panning. Thanks!
Thanks for the compliment! Although I don't think I've ever been congratulated for walking slowly before. 😂 I just tried to make the video I would want to see, plus I've got a memento for myself of my favourite boards (and lots of reference material!).
It's great to see so many games played on small terrain boards. Shows promise for bringing more people into the hobby who lack space to play on more expansive terrain.
Agreed. But those giant boards were just amazing, and made you want to sell your car to get enough garage space to build one just like them. 😂
@@ModelPaintWhatever Agree; of course, not everyone owns a garage🤭
@@joeokabayashi8669 That big WW2 industrial board made me want to buy a house with a garage just so I could use it for gaming. 😁
These days I find myself leaning towards larger boards and larger games. Room to actually maneuver.
@@MrGunnar177 That's been my dream since childhood. I had a big railway layout and used to fight battles with Airfix soldiers on it.
Nice seeing all the things I didn't have time to check out! Thanks for uploading.
I actually noticed a lot of details that I missed when I was editing the videos. Your work was really impressive to see in real life!
Great coverage, my man. Txs for sharing. Looks like it was a great gathering. 👍🏻
You're welcome! Yes, it was a fun day.
Salute is such a great event. I haven't been in years - but this felt so familiar! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for your comment. I've only been to about 5 Salutes but each one has been worth going to.
Great job in the steady camera work. Best youtube of Salute! There was a "best table", a medieval ship battle, all the gamers had maroon shirts. The small table deserve as much attention as the big ones! More please.
Thanks for the compliment! The camera work would have got shakier towards the end of the day because I had bought a load of stuff. 😆 So the secret is to get it done before buying anything.
Wow, you got that out quickly. Looks like you had a great day, I certainly did. Not sure my knees will forgive me for a few days, but it was worth it!
Oh it was a blast - but I had to force myself not to unbox anything until the video was done, and that waiting was the hardest bit. If I had gone to the trouble of labelling what I was filming (like you did) I'd probably still be doing it!
Lots of interesting games, especially the one with the aquarium @11:04 :D
Absolutely! And the underwater effect was even weirder when seen in real life!
A lovely record of a great day! Many thanks for the footage of our Normandy Bolt Actions boards. Was great to introduce so many new players to the game!!
Thanks very much! Why don't you mention the time stamp so that others can find your boards easily? I could work out which one you're actually talking about, but I don't want to risk getting it wrong.
@@ModelPaintWhatever great footage of 2 of the 3 boards we ran at 7.15 and 7.35. Thanks once again
@@duncansBoB Brilliant, thanks!
So glad to see 7TV and Pulp Alley. Thanks for posting this because I didn’t get there and can now see loads of great tables. . Also, no-thanks for posting this as I’m sad I didn’t get there to see loads of great stuff.
Sorry/not sorry. 🤣 I hope you get to go to a future Salute! It's a lot of fun.
@@ModelPaintWhatever I’ve been a couple of times before. But now I’ve moved north, and it’s just so far. I have smaller events nearer, but nothing on the scale of Salute.
@@TonyPullen I hope you get an event as big as Salute nearer to you. London is an expensive place to get to and stay if you're far away.
Thanks for posting this. Great to see Operation Warboard in play at 14:20
You're welcome! Glad I could help.
Good to see pulp alley there!
Glad I could help!
Looks amazing. Great to see all the different games and terrain. Is there an award for the best table? Im gutted i couldnt make it this year. Thank you for this video, theres so much more to the hobby than gw:)
I don't think there is an award for best table, it would probably skew people towards spectacular crowd-pleasers and distract from the games themselves. I think everyone who went will have their favourite - mine was at 25.04 but I couldn't tell you what game they were playing (maybe What A Tanker?). Second place was at 14.55, and third was the Epic table at 22.55 (sorry, I do love me a bit of GW, although I don't think they earned much from what was on that table ;) ).
@@ModelPaintWhatever Hey. That was my Stalingrad table at the 25min time stamp, and yes, it was an 8 player What A Tanker game. Glad you liked it :)
@@joebilton8596 Oh it was brilliant, well done! How long did it take? Was it just you working on it?
@@ModelPaintWhatever I started it properly in January, though I made 2 buildings in December. All finished mid March. 95% scratch-build from polystyrene, though there's a couple of mdf kits that I put polyfilla etc on. Just me working on it, yeah
@@joebilton8596 Wow, hats off to you, that's amazing skill and effort!
Even with six and half hours I spent most of my time shopping and missed a lot of games. Great to see so many cool little games.
I ran around at the start looking for bargains at the usual suspects, then did a thorough sector-by-sector sweep of the game tables as if I was looking for a fugitive. 🤠
Really cool show. 👍
It was, I spent about 4 hours walking around. A good way to spend a Saturday.
Ty : )
You're welcome!
Thank you for the coverage. For some of the displays, it was hard to see what game they are from. I was wondering if you could provide a breakdown(time cues? List) of the games shown. Thank you.
Honestly, I couldn't even tell in some cases what games were being run and I was there. Branding and signage is not a strong point at Salute! You can work it out if you have the guidebook and follow the table descriptions and you are physically there, but I was just looking at the scenery mainly. @MiniatureAdventuresTV has done a great video and has properly logged everything he shows, check it out here: czcams.com/video/N0b40uONZKc/video.html
Great video! But jo battletech? Ar least didn't see in the video. Very cool stuff, though please more videos like this!
Thanks! I didn’t see any Battletech there, sorry.
There's lots of Battletech on my UK Games Expo video - czcams.com/video/pBvkhkjROj0/video.html
@@ModelPaintWhatever cool I'll watch it.
Thanks for the video. Was there no Kingdom Death table? What about Corvus Belli? I saw Warcrow but that looked like just a couple guys doing a game.
I didn't see any Kingdom Death or non-Warcrow Corvus Belli, and I just checked the guidebook and nothing is listed there (unless I missed it). But I'm not familiar with either game so maybe someone else can recognise it and point out the timecode.
@ModelPaintWhatever no no, not necessary, friend. Kingdom Death is extremely boutique and their booth would be of no small display. Same goes for Corvus Belli - not nearly as expensive as KD, but much larger an operation that their booth/tables would be very obvious. Thanks again!
Edit - also I appreciate you panning left to capture the mighty DUNCAN RHODES.... I heard him and was like "....show him, camera guy!!", then you did, lol. Well done.
@@JuliusCaesar888 You get the bonus points for spotting him! 😁
Any idea what is the game at 0:37? And the terrain for that matter, thought at first it was Battle Systems but i dont recognise it.
Is it Infinity Code One? It says Code One on their reference sheets, but I'm not familiar with the game.
At 27:57 That table looks stunning. What's that?
According to @MiniatureAdventuresTV it's Peter's Paper Boys, ACW in 18mm.
All you need is a decent printer and some easy to acquire skill with a pair of scissors and you have armies and scenery for a fraction of the cost and time of 3d metal and plastic stuff.
@@andymoore9977 Sounds easy when you say it like that! 😁
Why didn’t you film the painting competition?
Two reasons - it was always busy and hard to get close to the models, but the biggest problem was the glass and lighting making it impossible to get a good view of the models, it was all reflections. I wouldn't have been able to do them justice (but I did film that helicopter with the motorised blades, I couldn't resist that one).
@@ModelPaintWhatever fair point. Would have been nice to show the cabinets from afar at least! Great video in any case!
@@Heimdall1987 Thanks! But even from afar you wouldn't have seen anything of interest apart from a crowd and some Ikea furniture. And some people were taking way too long to look at the scantily clad Elf maiden models, I felt kind of dirty waiting for them to move on. 😆
Really want to know what that ww2 aerial game with the holes in the board to place the rods
According to czcams.com/video/N0b40uONZKc/video.html, it's the Maidstone Wargames Society Battle of Britain game.
I found another video on it - czcams.com/video/mMlGBN2LOkc/video.html
17:00 what game is that?
Is it Gaslands?
@@ModelPaintWhatever no I mean the one that looks warmaster but the board is very small too. Maybe 10mm warhammer fantasy?
@@hav6301 Could be, or Warmaster or Kings of War. I think that table was selling custom 3D print 10mm ranges, and the games were just there to show off the minis.
Whats the game at 5:51
I think it might be Twilight, according to czcams.com/video/N0b40uONZKc/video.html - it certainly looks like a Kellanion Akitiin there.
@@ModelPaintWhatever thanks
we used to ride motorcycles on the back roads and chase skirt....so.......
So the skirt must have been running pretty fast for you to need motorcycles.
@@ModelPaintWhatever super hard to get imho.....That's all i can think of...
@@davidwright873 Getting into miniature wargaming is easier now than it has ever been, and there's less chance of swallowing flies while doing it.
@@ModelPaintWhatever or breaking your collar bone....lol
Quar! 24:31 if anyone is interested
Thanks for the identification!
25:01 Stalingrad?
Yes! Good, isn't it?
@@ModelPaintWhatever its not good,Its AWESOME...MAGNIFICENT WORKS...I love it
@@Abaddon86 I agree, that's why I put it in the thumbnail and stated it's my favourite in another comment. 😀
I deeply appreciated the lack of commentary
Ha ha! I know what you mean. But not all commentaries are bad. I don't think I will choose to do commentaries in future, I prefer the immersive aspect of hearing the show noise.
40k used to be great in the 90's... then came the money grubbers and, as usual, greed ruined the whole thing.
Now its totally ridiculous...
I take a pragmatic view of it - the games industry needs a behemoth to make it mainstream and make the idea of miniature wargaming palatable to corporate investors, which will undoubtedly help smaller companies get funding and grow. But the nature of being a multinational public company means that there will be mis-steps and there will be money grabbing. At least we have a choice not to support GW if we so choose, and bizarrely that's because of GW getting so big. Without GW there'd be a toy company in charge, like Hasbro or Mattel. Even FFG couldn't keep the X-Wing franchise going by themselves, and that was a machine to print money. So GW giveth, and GW taketh away. And I doubt Salute would be as big as it is today without the awareness of the hobby that GW has helped bring to the masses.
But I do totally see your point of view.
