  • This is Part 2 of Likes and Dislikes on the Hypermotard 950SP.
In this video I talk about some of the thing that bother me about this bike.
I talk about: The Height and what I did to deal with it. The TFT display riding mode options and how it is not explained in the manual. The difficulty of working on the bike as far as getting to the air filter and spark plug. The resetting of the oil light and how Ducati does not allow us to reset it ourselves. And lastly, the Fuel Gauge and how Ducati did not add that on such a high end bike like this. I also mention some examples of how I dealt with some of these problems. If you have any questions please leave a comment!
    Thanks again for watching!

I don't care how nice the bike looks and rides I'm not spending my hard earned money on something that has so many basic issues like no fuel gauge and service light issues. I have the same bike. I find the lack of fuel gauge annoying - particularly as my previous bike, Monster 1200 had one. The tires it comes with are amazing, but a bit tricky in the wet and don't expect any more than 3k miles from the rear - but in the dry - amazing grip levels. Quickshifter is very good. Also, if you really push it you can get the front to waggle a bit, but went for a steering damper, so that has gone. The seat is a complete plank, so changed to the comfort seat, basically the seat it should have come with. made a huge difference, went from 100 miles and uncomfortable to all-day riding with the odd stop for a break. But overall it has to be the best bike I have ever ridden. Take one for a test ride, but leave your money at home ;-)

To lower the seat height beyond just getting the thinner seat: change the rear suspension link length and raise the forks in the triple clamps a bit. That doesn't alter suspension preload/sag or make much difference to the ride but allows shorties to put their feet comfortably on the ground. Unless you actually need maximum ground clearance for all that off-road riding you'll do on this bike.

@@myhypermotard8351 I understand your decision because it seems that just changing the seat has resolved it for you. But for those of us with even shorter legs it can make the difference between us buying this bike and not. Changing the rear link and raising the forks a modest amount will of course affect handling somewhat - as does you changing the seat (because it lowers the c of g of rider+ bike). • @LordOrangeBike
    @LordOrangeBike Před 3 lety +1

    What bothers me on mine:
    - The height indeed, I'm 5'9 and still, it's a little too high.
    - The heat on the right leg from the exhaust.
    - You can remove the passenger footrests, but then your boot will touch the exhaust pipe. My boot literally melted on the pipe.
    - The lack of a fuel gauge...
    - Requires a tool to remove the seat
    - The brake fluid tanks get really shaky, the part holding them is made of aluminum, it should be made of steel to prevent this.
    - The comfort of the seat. Difficult to find the ideal position.
I had a Yamaha FZ09 before and it had none of these issues for half the price tag.
Otherwise thanks for your videos and honest reviews. It's so rare these days to have someone speak honestly about its bike. Looking forward to your other videos.

Thank you for the comments. I enjoy other opinions. I was beginning to think that I was just being a picky owner.
The heat is not something that really bothers me, but then again I always ride with my full ridding gear. Maybe the type of pants that I use protect from the heat.
I do agree with the shaky brake fluid tanks, they seems a bit weak.
I think the OEM seat was more firm than the lowered seat. Since I have put on the lowered seat I'm ok with the comfort.
I remember when I was looking to buy this bike, it was difficult to find a true honest review. All reviews were on all the great thing the bike had to offer but no negatives. I truly hope that these video's may give a potential buyer a better insight on the pros and cons on this bike. Yes, the Hypermotos are wider, but still, I'm used to it. Great videos though, had no idea these stuffy Ducatis have no fuel gauge? The most I’ve gone on a full tank is 125 miles and I could have probably gone a bit more. When I stopped to put gas, I can hear more gas moving around in the tank. (Reason for needing a gas gauge )
It really depends on which ridding mode your on and how your riding. When I did that many miles, I was commuting in urban mode and using steady throttle on the freeway. If you ride sport mode and ride hooligan style, you may not get more than 100 miles.

That bright strong red colour on the wheels and frame popped so nicely with the pearl white fairings shimmering in the sun =) However I know for a fact that the 950 has a lot more torque way sooner down in the revs than the 939 which is strangely kind of weak compared to the 950 in the low revs.

The difficulty to access the air filter and spark plugs is way more common than you might think in this sport bike world. Even my Bajaj small motorcycle requires me to remove the tank (and a lot of stuff before it) if I want to replace my air filter. I'm starting to think they do it because they want the rider to be able to hear the air going into the engine... Or that's the positive side of it. They might be trying to keep us in the "authorized shop" to do it, but I'm not letting them get away with it. haha.

How's the starter? I have the 2015 821, which was known to have a starter that would become less and less effective. Ducati replaced mine after a couple years with the newer model. They did it for free. I've been able to start each time since but it does chug a bit, especially when the engine is a hot. For me it's just sort of a quality thing, on a bike this nice I expect it to start consistently and quickly in a confident way. My 2 previous inexpensive sv650's did, so why not.

Ducati costs more buying and servicing than the Japanese bikes. Those kind of things should’ve been thought through when you get them. Changing mode difficulty- if that is hard to find? Bro..
