Yeah that is one thing about Dragonball I think got lost along the way. I suppose by design it became impossible to make any of the characters who aren't Saiyans anything besides background characters who provide story padding and comedic relief.
I would say the bad thing about the game was the game board for story mode. That's probably the only thing. It was fun at first, but when you realized most of the unlockables depended on revisiting past stories it got annoying.
The way Goku is in super is apparently how Toriyama originally wanted him to be. He has stated his frustrations with how the anime portrayed Goku as he wrote him to be someone who's sole focus was eating and fighting.

Same. Nappa is a jobber who is literally 100% unnecessary to the story, so I often forget his existance, entirely. "The saiyans (plural)" land, kill some of the cast, then Goku defeats Nappa on arrival.
Problem with budokai 2 is that other than introducing a new improved art style it dosint really differentiate itself from the first gameplay wise and the story mode was a massive downgrade
@@vandad13 you right 3 felt like a huge upgrade. But 2 did add things like senzu beans and different capsules and the gameplay was more fluid in my point of view . They also made some moves interactive like kid buus ultimate , I'm not sure if you could push it back or just take less damage but the 2 players and to rotate the joystick and my cousin always won . Kinda cheap and lame but I saw it as a whole different game from 1 .
Funny enough, Raditz does have other moves named after the days of the week, though not all of them. He skips Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. While I was looking up a list of his moves, I found one called "Maniac Monday." That the Dragonball Moves Wiki says he picked up during his days as a professional wrestler. When I was a kid I started watching DBZ when the end of the cell arc/beginning of the Buu arc were airing on Toonami, and this was the first DBZ game I was exposed too. I hadn't seen the Saiyan/Frieza saga yet so when I played this game I just assumed Raditz and Nappa arriving to earth at the same time and the other weird what if stuff was cannon for a while lol.

@@islandboy9381 i remember I kept failing the first QTE bit where you line up Raditz for the Special Beam Cannon and just got so frustrated I stopped playing. I went back and beat it one go. After that I played through the rest of the game and kept losing the last fight with Freeza until I got down the combo into special move inputs. Then I got pissed off with the final fight with Cell and again stopped playing. Took me a while but I finally beat the bastard and got my favorite What If unlocked.
I'm a really big fan of TV shows like Kamen Rider and Super Sentai so I definitely loved Great Saiyaman for pretty much being a Tokusatsu parody along with the likes of the Ginyu Force
Honestly Saiyaman is just such pure cheese I can't hate it. It's one of those things that in-universe nobody takes seriously so I don't think it makes much sense to hate.
I think the reason people hate great saiyaman is that Gohan is the wrong character to do it especially after all his development in the cell saga. DBZ fans can clearly handle a goofy power rangers parody because of the Ginyu force but we go from Gohan being the next hero and defender of Earth to goofy jackass playing dress up with his girlfriend.
I actually really like the Buu saga. I know it’s not as narratively tight as the other arcs, I just really liked Vegeta’s character arc & the relationship between Mr. Satan & Buu. Plus, Saiyanman is god tier. It’s probably one of my favourite sagas after the Android/Cell saga.

I remember playing this as a kid, but my favorite childhood Dragon Ball game was Budokai Tenkaichi 3. While it wasn't a very good fighting game, it was a good "Dragon Ball Simulator." You actually got to fly around in a 3d environment and use huge special moves, with a team of characters from pretty much all eras of Dragon Ball. That to me was what DBZ was, and with a kickass soundtrack as well, it cemented itself in my memory as my favorite DBZ game for a long time
Tenkaichi 3 should have become the blueprint for future DBZ games. They found a way to make one-on-one fighting feel like Dragon Ball, rather than Street Fighter or Guilty Gear with a Dragon Ball reskin.
God, I remember working on that newgrounds collab. I wasn't able to finish my skit in time, so everything looked rushed, but everyone else's (and Cory's) were hysterical.

This dragon ball tl looks amazing: -Trunks went up to the wrong place with the time machine, which made Nappa land with Raditz on the Earth. -And Tien travelled with Goku to Alaska to defeat the 'Ginyu' force (which only have 2 members) and Frieza, who already is on the final form
I'm not gonna lie: Great Saiyaman Saga is one of my favorite sagas in DBZ. It's really interesting, to me at least, to watch Gohan try to live in this world that he saved but hasn't gotten any credit for saving. I think that DBZ really fell off the deep end once they brought Goku back from the dead. Completely undermines his sacrifice.
completely agreed, we get to see secret identity Gohan, and the slice of life highschool drama with videl is really neat. it actually fits the pacing of the anime a lot better than the fighting arcs. the anime kept catching up to the manga so they had to stretch like 10 attacks across a whole episode. there's an episode in the frieza saga where goku and frieza just stare and think at each other for the whole episode

I think the perfect ending is Goku going off to train Uub. Another possibility would be if Dende went home and Goku finally became guardian of the earth. I'd even take Gohan for that position. While GT squandered Uub, it still had a great conclusion. The show improves as it goes on. Dragon Ball Super leads nowhere because we already know how the story ends. That is unless Super changed the ending retroactively. I'd just hate it more.

That's called developing taste. And at some point, you develop a point where the quality of something is below what you're willing to consider acceptable. I'm certainly willing to say Super fails to meet my standards. Nothing ever really seemed to matter. Earth destroyed by Frieza? Whis undoes it, no biggy. Piccolo dies? Revived off screen because death is trivial. New Saiyan characters get a ton of character development and screen time? Doesn't matter, they're completely irrelevant to the narrative. If you remove them in their entirety, the story barely changes, we just lose some slight character development with Vegeta. And why even care about the characters when the roster is so huge and no one has a personal narrative to follow? What are our characters goals? Why are we rooting for them? Why should we care? Remember Piccolo's road to redemption? Remember Goku's climb to ascend to the heights of power only spoken of in legend (a power that has since been trivialized)? Remember Gohan's journey to become a man, as Goku passed the torch to him as defender of Earth? Remember Vegeta's realization that his hunger for power and lust to defeat Goku was irrelevant compared to the love he had for his family? Did Super have anything like that? Fuck no it didn't. It's a meaningless string of fights with no stakes and little charm performed by a soulless roster of corpses dragged out of the grave to appeal to people's sense of nostalgia. Super was awful.
This game was actually my very first exposure to dragon ball z as a kid. I didn't know what was happening but I still loved the game and still do because of the nostalgia.
This was my first ever Dragon Ball game, I loved the show as a kid and was happy as hell to have a game for it. Me and my brother replayed this game over like 6 times over. I look at it now and realize how bad it is in comparison to the other games and the actual show, but I still loved it when I got it as a kid.

One thing that's always confused me about Vegeta is why does he still refer to himself as the PRINCE of Saiyans? Technically shouldn't he be the King now (even if there's only like, a half-dozen of them) and Trunks be the new Prince?
Okay so admittedly my first comment was from before I started watching and while I don't agree with a fair amount of their opinions I still am enjoying watching them play through the story mode. I saw they uploaded some DBZ Sagas as well so I hope we get more DBZ games
The rewritten dialogue in the old english dub was much better for Goku. LIke, when Vegeta is first defeated in the original Japanese run, Goku wants Vegeta to live so they can fight again, where in the english dub with Bruce Faulconer music, he wants Vegeta to live because he believes there is potential for him to become a good person. Basing his experience with other allies/former enemies like Tien & Piccolo.
The rewritten dialogue turns him into a stereotypical righteous superhero while the original depicts him as a selfish, fighting crazed maniac. I prefer the original
I actually played the hell out of this when I was younger lol... Actually kinda salty about the title. Also Cory is pretty damn good at a game he shits on.
The commentary is how I know they didn't pay attention to Goku in Z...but it still is a fun video. Goku had fatherly moments and understood that his presence is a constant magnet for villains. He approaches it by trying to get stronger to fight this but acknowledged his failure in not coming back after cell. Not to knock on Vegeta, he's just as amazing, but it seems a lot of people give Goku less credit than he actually deserved in Z. Super however is a completely trashed take on the earlier Goku.
Man, they didn't even get to the part where Super Buu, Cell and Frieza are all locked in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and it's a race to kill the old villains before Buu vores them.
Loved this game as a kid (Only had a GameCube, so I never played Budokai 3 back then). I played it again a couple years ago, and yeah, the """story""" mode is very tedious. The core gameplay though had some great improvements over Budokai 1, like being able to fire Kamehameha type moves without doing a full combo. Not to mention the fun fusion characters like Gokule (who had 2 completely different models depending on character outfits) and Tiencha. I would not say this is a bad game, mediocre, but not bad. If they want to call this game bad just because of a shitty story mode, then that also means FighterZ is bad by those same standards. That being said, I love OneyPlays and this is no exception. Keep up the funi let's plays, bois.
I had Budokai 1-3, and I appreciated Budokai 2 for doing something different with the story mode other than the same 1:1 retread of the original story we've all read/watched, we already had Budokai 1 for that. Everything else in Budokai 2 was a major improvement over the first anyway.
I went to gamestop to pick something out for my 9th birthday. I asked the guy at the the register if the store had any copies of Dragonball Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (I searched it up beforehand and my small child brain was blown away at the thought of being able to fly around in 3d). The dude hands me a copy of budokai 2. When I tried to tell him that it's the wrong game he just kept saying "you got the name wrong, you're thinking of budokai 2" until my mom just took the game, paid for it anyway, and then brought me home. When I turned it on and came face to face with that actual boardgame world screen that was probably the maddest I ever was as a child. I was one of the little kids they were talking about in the video.
Seeing the game have zero good cutscenes when compared to the first game seemed to be the starting point of hastily-produced DBZ fighter games up until ARC studios made DBZfighters.
One thing I have to say: I love adult Gohan during the Buu saga. Everyone hates that he's lost what he got from Cell, But IT MAKES FUCKING SENSE. HE STILL HATES FIGHTING. HE DOESNT LIKE TO FIGHT. He killed cell cause he snapped after being forced to face cell and when goku finally tried to stop it, Gohan knew him snapping was the only way, cause it was too late, and goku wasn't strong enough. It why the introduction of ultimate gohan is so cool. Cause its like another little snap, where he plays with his enemy, cause he has a vindictive side, it ends up being a mistake. People hate adult gohan, but he's still the exact same from when he killed cell. They just don't like that he wasn't waaaaaaay stronger

The way Goku is in super is apparently how Toriyama originally wanted him to be. He has stated his frustrations with how the anime portrayed Goku as he wrote him to be someone who's sole focus was eating and fighting.

@@vandad13 you right 3 felt like a huge upgrade. But 2 did add things like senzu beans and different capsules and the gameplay was more fluid in my point of view . They also made some moves interactive like kid buus ultimate , I'm not sure if you could push it back or just take less damage but the 2 players and to rotate the joystick and my cousin always won . Kinda cheap and lame but I saw it as a whole different game from 1 .
Funny enough, Raditz does have other moves named after the days of the week, though not all of them. He skips Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
While I was looking up a list of his moves, I found one called "Maniac Monday." That the Dragonball Moves Wiki says he picked up during his days as a professional wrestler.

When I was a kid I started watching DBZ when the end of the cell arc/beginning of the Buu arc were airing on Toonami, and this was the first DBZ game I was exposed too. I hadn't seen the Saiyan/Frieza saga yet so when I played this game I just assumed Raditz and Nappa arriving to earth at the same time and the other weird what if stuff was cannon for a while lol.

@@islandboy9381 i remember I kept failing the first QTE bit where you line up Raditz for the Special Beam Cannon and just got so frustrated I stopped playing. I went back and beat it one go.
After that I played through the rest of the game and kept losing the last fight with Freeza until I got down the combo into special move inputs.
Then I got pissed off with the final fight with Cell and again stopped playing. Took me a while but I finally beat the bastard and got my favorite What If unlocked.

I'm a really big fan of TV shows like Kamen Rider and Super Sentai so I definitely loved Great Saiyaman for pretty much being a Tokusatsu parody along with the likes of the Ginyu Force
Honestly Saiyaman is just such pure cheese I can't hate it. It's one of those things that in-universe nobody takes seriously so I don't think it makes much sense to hate.
I like Trunk's style of great Saiyaman 3, the suit is awesome to be honest.

I think the reason people hate great saiyaman is that Gohan is the wrong character to do it especially after all his development in the cell saga. DBZ fans can clearly handle a goofy power rangers parody because of the Ginyu force but we go from Gohan being the next hero and defender of Earth to goofy jackass playing dress up with his girlfriend.
I actually really like the Buu saga. I know it’s not as narratively tight as the other arcs, I just really liked Vegeta’s character arc & the relationship between Mr. Satan & Buu. Plus, Saiyanman is god tier. It’s probably one of my favourite sagas after the Android/Cell saga.

I remember playing this as a kid, but my favorite childhood Dragon Ball game was Budokai Tenkaichi 3. While it wasn't a very good fighting game, it was a good "Dragon Ball Simulator." You actually got to fly around in a 3d environment and use huge special moves, with a team of characters from pretty much all eras of Dragon Ball. That to me was what DBZ was, and with a kickass soundtrack as well, it cemented itself in my memory as my favorite DBZ game for a long time

Tenkaichi 3 should have become the blueprint for future DBZ games. They found a way to make one-on-one fighting feel like Dragon Ball, rather than Street Fighter or Guilty Gear with a Dragon Ball reskin.

-Trunks went up to the wrong place with the time machine, which made Nappa land with Raditz on the Earth.
-And Tien travelled with Goku to Alaska to defeat the 'Ginyu' force (which only have 2 members) and Frieza, who already is on the final form
I'm not gonna lie: Great Saiyaman Saga is one of my favorite sagas in DBZ. It's really interesting, to me at least, to watch Gohan try to live in this world that he saved but hasn't gotten any credit for saving. I think that DBZ really fell off the deep end once they brought Goku back from the dead. Completely undermines his sacrifice.

I think the perfect ending is Goku going off to train Uub. Another possibility would be if Dende went home and Goku finally became guardian of the earth. I'd even take Gohan for that position.
While GT squandered Uub, it still had a great conclusion. The show improves as it goes on. Dragon Ball Super leads nowhere because we already know how the story ends. That is unless Super changed the ending retroactively.
I'd just hate it more.

That's called developing taste. And at some point, you develop a point where the quality of something is below what you're willing to consider acceptable. I'm certainly willing to say Super fails to meet my standards.
Nothing ever really seemed to matter. Earth destroyed by Frieza? Whis undoes it, no biggy. Piccolo dies? Revived off screen because death is trivial. New Saiyan characters get a ton of character development and screen time? Doesn't matter, they're completely irrelevant to the narrative. If you remove them in their entirety, the story barely changes, we just lose some slight character development with Vegeta. And why even care about the characters when the roster is so huge and no one has a personal narrative to follow? What are our characters goals? Why are we rooting for them? Why should we care?
Remember Piccolo's road to redemption? Remember Goku's climb to ascend to the heights of power only spoken of in legend (a power that has since been trivialized)? Remember Gohan's journey to become a man, as Goku passed the torch to him as defender of Earth? Remember Vegeta's realization that his hunger for power and lust to defeat Goku was irrelevant compared to the love he had for his family? Did Super have anything like that? Fuck no it didn't. It's a meaningless string of fights with no stakes and little charm performed by a soulless roster of corpses dragged out of the grave to appeal to people's sense of nostalgia. Super was awful.

This game was actually my very first exposure to dragon ball z as a kid. I didn't know what was happening but I still loved the game and still do because of the nostalgia.
This was my first ever Dragon Ball game, I loved the show as a kid and was happy as hell to have a game for it. Me and my brother replayed this game over like 6 times over. I look at it now and realize how bad it is in comparison to the other games and the actual show, but I still loved it when I got it as a kid.

Okay so admittedly my first comment was from before I started watching and while I don't agree with a fair amount of their opinions I still am enjoying watching them play through the story mode. I saw they uploaded some DBZ Sagas as well so I hope we get more DBZ games
The rewritten dialogue in the old english dub was much better for Goku. LIke, when Vegeta is first defeated in the original Japanese run, Goku wants Vegeta to live so they can fight again, where in the english dub with Bruce Faulconer music, he wants Vegeta to live because he believes there is potential for him to become a good person. Basing his experience with other allies/former enemies like Tien & Piccolo.
The rewritten dialogue turns him into a stereotypical righteous superhero while the original depicts him as a selfish, fighting crazed maniac. I prefer the original

Goku had fatherly moments and understood that his presence is a constant magnet for villains. He approaches it by trying to get stronger to fight this but acknowledged his failure in not coming back after cell.
Not to knock on Vegeta, he's just as amazing, but it seems a lot of people give Goku less credit than he actually deserved in Z.
Super however is a completely trashed take on the earlier Goku.

Man, they didn't even get to the part where Super Buu, Cell and Frieza are all locked in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and it's a race to kill the old villains before Buu vores them.
Loved this game as a kid (Only had a GameCube, so I never played Budokai 3 back then). I played it again a couple years ago, and yeah, the """story""" mode is very tedious. The core gameplay though had some great improvements over Budokai 1, like being able to fire Kamehameha type moves without doing a full combo. Not to mention the fun fusion characters like Gokule (who had 2 completely different models depending on character outfits) and Tiencha.
I would not say this is a bad game, mediocre, but not bad. If they want to call this game bad just because of a shitty story mode, then that also means FighterZ is bad by those same standards.
That being said, I love OneyPlays and this is no exception. Keep up the funi let's plays, bois.
I had Budokai 1-3, and I appreciated Budokai 2 for doing something different with the story mode other than the same 1:1 retread of the original story we've all read/watched, we already had Budokai 1 for that. Everything else in Budokai 2 was a major improvement over the first anyway.

I asked the guy at the the register if the store had any copies of Dragonball Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (I searched it up beforehand and my small child brain was blown away at the thought of being able to fly around in 3d). The dude hands me a copy of budokai 2. When I tried to tell him that it's the wrong game he just kept saying "you got the name wrong, you're thinking of budokai 2" until my mom just took the game, paid for it anyway, and then brought me home. When I turned it on and came face to face with that actual boardgame world screen that was probably the maddest I ever was as a child. I was one of the little kids they were talking about in the video.

One thing I have to say: I love adult Gohan during the Buu saga. Everyone hates that he's lost what he got from Cell, But IT MAKES FUCKING SENSE. HE STILL HATES FIGHTING. HE DOESNT LIKE TO FIGHT. He killed cell cause he snapped after being forced to face cell and when goku finally tried to stop it, Gohan knew him snapping was the only way, cause it was too late, and goku wasn't strong enough. It why the introduction of ultimate gohan is so cool. Cause its like another little snap, where he plays with his enemy, cause he has a vindictive side, it ends up being a mistake. People hate adult gohan, but he's still the exact same from when he killed cell. They just don't like that he wasn't waaaaaaay stronger
