- About Starsector:
» Starsector is an open-world single-player space-combat, roleplaying, exploration, and economic game. You take the role of a space captain seeking fortune and glory however you choose. Nexerelin is a mod to expand Starsector making it into more of a 4X game (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate).

Such a great game that is rather under covered on youtube. A few tips though. The cost of carrying more cargo than you can carry is using more supplies. So if you're over capacity with supplies then you might as well keep them since it'll just use them anyway. Also, as long as you use them before leaving the market you can buy modspecs from the black market without any relationship penalties. Comes in handy if you come across something nice.
Oh I am well aware that when you're over supplied you hemorrhage resources =P
The buying modspecs from black market I did not know, but I sort of figured that'd be the case, same I suspect of any supplies you buy that you use to immediately repair.

tbf that's far from the "hardest" start. That would have been Starfarer Mode On with Starting D-Mods on Faction Free. This start is actually quite comfy... i mean a flawless Destroyer + 2 auxiliary Ships right from the getgo, that's like a rich kid start into life. Still love to see Starsector on your Channel!

This game feeds my addiction to creat new characters. I almist never make it to 5th level before I decide "I wanna do mining" or "I wanna go salvage ships and stuff" or "I'm gonna be a merc carrier and help factions fight others". I've got about twrnty characters by now, most cant be played due to old mods.
The beauty of a sandbox game is it can inspire such a wide variety of gameplay like in your case.

Sunders with Plasma Cannon have so much potential to be OP. In a recent game, I had two Sunders in a fairly-mediocre fleet, and found a Domain Mothership. Solo deployed in one Sunder, fought until peak performance ran out, retreated, re-engaged, and repeated. Took way too long, but managed to grind the enemy down and eventually won.

How did you even survive long enough to run into performance timeout? The mothership outranges a plasma cannon and it's shield can tank a single plasma cannon pretty much indefinitely
@@KT-pv3kl The Mothership has no shield. None of the drones have shields. They tend to hang out near the Mothership instead of actively pursuing you, as long as you don't get too overfluxed, so it's mostly a matter of avoiding specific weapons that can ruin your day in a single hit.
rhad, if you need the AI to be aggressive, Full Assault (on the command screen) is almost a requirement unless they have a more aggressive captain

This game is so huge. I try to understand all the gun, factions, what the goal is, ect.

I don’t know why you’d take the Vulcan off the rear ballistic on the Sunder, that’s the weak point in its shield coverage and somewhat the Achilles heel for the average speed Sunder.
Also buying items that are in deficit when first starting out is a good way to go bankrupt fast.

vs Star Valor, this one seems significantly deeper. The other one seems like a pretty straight line grind to make a faction's super ship, then you zip around deleting enemy faction stations until you get bored or red bases are deleted from the verse.
It is, but that's also because its been in development a lot longer
I am hoping they add more mechanics to Star Valor.
I mean, they are completely different games. Aim of Starsector is to make a simulated world with strategic and tactical gameplay, whereas Star Valor is an Arcade game with some EV Nova-esque features + mining and crafting sprinkled in.
Star Valor is very cool and addicting, but Starsector is way more in the realm of 4X / Sim or "hardcore" games such as X4 Foundations, Kenshi and Rimworld. Albeit vastly different, those have similar cores. Wouldn't ever expect for Star Valor to go on this direction.

Most of the skills you can choose from the start. Try to use missles, very powerful, no flux.

when your in your intel screen press W to show your fuel range. Comms sniffers wor great for getting missions with factions you want to raise. Install in systems of faction you want to raise at the comms relay.

I'm legit shocked Prism didn't have the Plasma Cannon. I thought the High End Seller there always stocked 5, and just charged through the nose for them. Might be because of the completely-random sector?

Yes
Skills don't go in order. Unless that's your custom rule and I missed it. Each block requires a set number is skills from the block before it.
Don't worry I was told this on stream. I hadn't played since the last update where they were in order.

You are very vulnerable when you vent, and often you'll get pursued by enemies when you do vent

My last watch was episode 11 (won't spoil it for others what happened there) and then I did not know that was the last episode up to now to this date and tried to view the "next" episode and landed more or less here, surprised. After navigating to the playlist I only could determine that was it (until now).
No offense, but as I try to follow you on stream and participate, I often have to keep up with watching on youtube due to life constraints and usually try to remember the episode number of the title to continue watching the next day which don't appear any more.
You mentioned the reason why on Discord, so I understand why.
I'll find a way around that.
@@shakeyourbunny Using the playlists is probably the easiest way, and at the start of every video I do insert a reminder about it. The A:B test will conclude after Fuel Baron's finishes airing, I haven't looked at the data yet.

Indeed, there’s no point adding them unless you’ve maxed your capacitors and vents but want to squeeze a bit more out and don’t have any other mods like missile racks, targeting core etc .
*Skills do NOT level in order!*
Don't know where you pulled that from, but that is majorly false in how you explained it. Combat Endurance can immediately be picked and does NOT require a "pre-requisite" skill. No skill does.
Each skill tree has groups, signified with gaps between each "unlock group". You are free to choose *whatever* available skill there is.
To unlock groups of skills further down the tree, all you have to do is spend X amount of points in the respective trees

I believe it was 0.91 and prior where the skill tree was far more linear, possibly the last time Rhad had played SS.

@@5RndsFFE Last time it was all connected to a total points dumped into a category itself that unlocked more levels per skill up to 3. It still wasn't exactly linear before the current version of the skill tree. You still had free choice throughout the trees.
What do you mean when you say it's an "x4" extension? The part of the x4.
And you recommend starting the game with that Nexerelin mod without knowing vanilla at all, just played very little.
