    That was good.
    Can't wait to do it myself.
    Hope the wife doesn't mind the mess on the floor when I've when I've turned my crop into blood soaked compost.

    Here in Kentucky, you can find old plug cutters in just about every antique shop around. They're not going to offer the precision thickness adjustment of the meat cutter, but they make up for it in sheer coolness.

  • @DanielStarbuck

    I know you said you're not bothered about the rough edge at the bottom, but have you thought of using something like a sacrificial rolled up newspaper on the bottom when you slice the flakes? It may also help with stopping the delamination.
    Awesome video. I really appreciate you going through it like this.

    Awesome! I bet the heat helps tremendously! Im in Delaware and highs are in the 50s. I packed mine up and pressed with a bottle jack under a beam. Its overkill but its what i had. I was wondering about the foil. That's an awesome idea. I flipped mine and put back under the press. I should have wrapped in foil. I have made a few different presses and as soon as i get the dewalt clamp (mine didn't fit in the press) this one has to be the best. Its just a perfect size and those slices look amazing! I have to look into one of those!

      @andrewnelms236 Před rokem

      @@briarbrethren the bottle jack isnt working out too well. It was hard to keep it even and it pressed one side more than the other. Its back in under a different jack. It might need all 4 side with this method. I am going to invest in a nice clamp and maybe one i can fit in my kiln. Someone said when they make cakes in a noodle press they microwave tobacco for 30 seconds to get it steamy and the cakes hold better. Maybe i can do that with the plug if its not warm enough to adhere here in De

    • @briarbrethren
      @briarbrethren  Před rokem

      @@andrewnelms236 I have never tried microwaving it. But I do bring the leaves to fairly high case before pressing. Also, I find that if I press overnight at full power with the Dewalt, I have few issues with the lamination. In the video, I actually only did a full pressure press for a few hours, which is why there was some lamination.

    • @briarbrethren
      @briarbrethren  Před rokem +2

      Yep. In fact, I did so today. You just lay the press on its back and put the tobacco between the two removable wood blocks. if it is a small amount, I put the tobacco inside of a Ziploc bag before pressing. That spares you from having to scrape tobacco off of the wood blocks.
