That duel was incredibly nostalgic to watch and super fun. The tables turned every turn and it wasn’t just one turn with effect after effect after effect. Seemed like anyone could pick up and play. Man what a flashback to elementary school.

I really think early Yugioh cards had a lot better aesthetic feel than a lot of the current game. The current era is so much more sci-fi/anime inspired in the card designs and concepts, while the early generation of cards up to like GX had a lot more of that occult/raw edgy aesthetic. A lot of the modern Yugioh creatures (synchro, XYZ, Link, etc.) remind me of Gunpla or Mega-level Digimon that all have this sort of angelic/machine-like aesthetic. With that early Yugioh era, even though most of the cards had nothing to do with Ancient Egypt, many of them were so macabre and dark that you actually did get the impression you were playing some ancient shadow game exactly like the show depicts. The starter decks actually had this like vibe about them, like you could literally feel the epic energy of the cards within them.
I mean that generally happened with Yu gi oh anime as well , the whole concept of 5d’s onwards is that it happened in the future and how the tech has really improved so the monsters and spells reflected this
EXACTLY. Main reason Forbidden Memories and Dark Duel Stories will be my favorite games.
I loved when you would be able to combine monsters to make new ones and their attributes would give them an edge over certain monsters.

I recently got back into the game thanks to Master Duel, and the new cards look like ass. Bunch of anime girls instead of creepy monsters like in the early days. Although i love the cryptozoology cards with Mothman and Bigfoot.

someone with a good sense, i agree with you in everything, the Old Yu-Gi-Oh is remember me a lot about Shin Megami Tensei, (I don't know why) probably it's because the dark feeling it have.. damn Old Yu-Gi-Oh is the best.
The Lord of D. protection was such a cool main character moment for Kaiba. I love seeing its effect actually help!

I'm pretty sure Blue-Eyes is the most famous Yu-Gi-Oh card, just because the phrase "dark magician" could refer to a lot of things, but "blue-eyes white dragon" is a lot more specific and many people who have never played the game.or watched the anime have still heard of it. They may have heard of dark magician as well but may not immediately recognize it as a Yu-Gi-Oh card.

Back then YuGiOh wasn't glorified solitaire or about constant special summoning it was about the suspense! With the most common phrases and questions.
"What monster did my opponent set? I hope it's not a man eater bug!"
"What trap card did he set?"
"Oh no my opponent is smiling at his opening hand, what did he draw?"
"Come deck don't fail me, let me draw something that'll turn this game around!"

2006 to 2013 was the golden days of yugioh, if you played in that time, like me, congratulations. I feel sorry for the people that didnot played in that time.

now THIS brings back memories, I actually had the special editions of all 4 of the original starter decks (Yugi, Kaiba, Joey, and Pegasus) that came with sleeves, a couple packs and a few other things
I remember as a kid getting these 2 Starters at a Gas Station it was awesome then and the sets are still awesome today I miss the old Yu-Gi-Oh!

back then you could watch people play and understand what is going on, now if you try to watch a modern yu gi oh duel you can't understand what's going on unless the players spend 5 minutes explaining each effect they activate.

When all plot armor goes to one character:
At last, a YuGiOh duel that I can keep on track! No multi-effects chain crap, no too much tiny text effects, no monster needs to have effects to be cool, just straight ATK and DEF points, that's the way of simple but enjoyable dueling experience!
Magic and traps should be the cards with effects, while effect monsters should not be as common as they are now, they should be rare and simple to read and understand, in fact, every card effect should be as simple as that for fast pace and easy tracking for everyone. And because of how YuGiOh cards are now, the "duels" have become tedious text reading and complicated gameplay that ruins all the joy it had back then.
Great duel guys, really shows why old school yugioh was and is still so great to play!

Blue eyes will always be the most famous. It was the first card we ever saw in Yugi and it was built up tremendously and Kaiba ripping grandpa Yugis Blue eyes is forever engraved into our minds. Blue eyes The White Dragon Forever!!!!
