+Simon Kemp me too and wondering who nicked the last 40 years...if I ever find that sod who pinched em he's gonna get a right kickn...LOL unfortunately Im too old to do it at 56...LOL
Love the buzzcocks and did back then: But this particular live version is my favorite . So raw and sincere. Check out the fans too. Funny.Nice mix of guitars too. Les Paul Junior.
Imagine being there! I'm 35, just missed the acid house scene and I was 11 in 1994 when the last of the decent music was coming to an end. I was lucky enough to get on the back-end of 90's piano house/some good indie too but there's just a total load of shit out now. Me and my mates all still listen to this anyway. Whoever was there count your blessings, imagine hearing that for the first time!!!! RIP legend
Not sure if you're aware of them already.. but listen to "Am I In Heaven?" by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. that should cheer you up. And be sure to check out the other artists on Flightless records if you haven't already. there's definitely a lot of bull shit, trash music in the world today. and it's pretty depressing. but there's still great music out there, man.
+Reid Flemming true and its also not like they didnt have shitty mainstream music back then...there was a reason for people putting honesty into music, because abba and the beegees were lacking it.....same today just larger scale....
Went to his house where he was born and his mum was lovely . The bedroom is still the same as when he left it to be in a band .Learnt the guitar in weeks and wrote his 1st song, the rest is history , thanks Pete RIP x
why has it taken me so long to discover the buzzcocks...just watched a random interview with mike ness of social distortion and he mentioned them and so I checked them out. such good punk rock.
I was lucky to meet Pete shelly in dundee in 1993 backstage at Oscars nightclub he was down to earth and very friendly guy what I liked about the buzzcocks was they made everything look so simple and never took themselves too seriously
Lol, I love how he says, "1 - 2 - 3 - Faaa!" :-) They sound great live! Man, I like this song... in fact, yes, I think I may have fallen in love with it.
Going to see the mighty BuZZcocks in october in dublin can,t wait. They are class live saw them in manchester this year already. The best band ever. Class.
Punk is about ATTITUDE, its really an international thing, and timeless. it de-stresses me better than ANY meds ever invented.. it feels good.... THIS SONG IS A CLASSIC, it has great energy, good vibe, and they lyrics are quite excellent.... the brits punk had more to the lyrics than the yanks.
It would be something to go back in time and appear in that room and take it all in (wherever it is). The audience didn't know how iconic the song and the band would become. A real gem of a moment in time. Lucky for those who were there.
I was just starting high school when this single came out. There was no punk or look back then. It was just rock n' roll and it was glorious. Punk comes in later when the industry sees a way to make money and kids decide to buy into the whole thing. By 1980 the scene was dead. Now the Gap sells ripped up jeans for $50. Your future dream is a shopping spree!
:) Fair enough Personally I just really love it when bands encourage movement within the crowd! Your english is good! Just *like instead of that* and great fun or lots of fun without the 'a' :))
"No glitz, no glitter, no excessive stage show" - so Ziggy Stardust was a bad thing? Nothing happened to music. It still exists. I feel sorry for people too lazy to get up off their arse and find it. Great music is always worth searching for. And to make matters worse is that people today have it WAY EASIER. You don't have to go down to a great record store, spend a day searching the bins, meet with a knowledgeable clerk or music fan, and then plunk down 10 bucks on a gamble. Today you just go online and get bombarded with choices and free music. Find a band you like? Have their music on your phone, computer AND stereo in 30 seconds. Watch all their videos. Read their web site. Talk to fans on a forum. Know what the artist had for breakfast via their Twitter and find out when they're in town with an app, then buy those tickets without waiting in line. Shit, get the tabs and music sheets and lyrics to all your favorite songs. So stop whining.
@@e32b61 While agree with a lot of what you say about the ease of finding and accessing music, I can't get on board with it all. Ziggy Stardust for example. While I love a lot of Bowie's music, and don't doubt the cultural impact of his stage image, alter egos etc, I was never a big fan of the theatrical side of it all. And I can see why others may just see it as pretentious showing off. My other point is live music. How much do you think the audience paid to get into this gig? Even though they were a signed band at this point, it wouldn't have cost anywhere near what tickets for even bands with minor success cost now, even taking inflation into account. But yeah, the ease and relative cheapness of accessing recorded music these days was unimaginable back then, and the ease with which people can find a live video of this performance is one example of that.
lol oddly they did. On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive, made the first mobile telephone call from handheld subscriber equipment, placing a call to Dr. Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs his rival.
The best way to describe the Buzzcocks to someone unfamiliar with them would be to imagine the Sex Pistols, if the Sex Pistols actually had a shitload of talent. (which they didn't, aside from a few flashes of brilliance from John Lydon)
Actually Pistols were all ok apart from Sid. It’s a bit unfair to say that they were talentless. I wish they’d lasted a bit longer so we would have had more stuff. They never should have sacked Matlock.
Rest In Peace, Peter Shelley. In a time of upheaval, the blast of raw chords, revolution & rebirth, Shelley seemed out of place in a sense. A seemingly sensitive, gentle soul amid a scene of chaos and noise.
Ever seen Pete Townshend's white boilermaker suit w Doc Marten boots he wore from 69-71 Woodstock, Live at Leeds ??I think its a tribute coz he's a biig ass Townshend fan . Plenty of live footage from the period on YT . Just look at Woodstock .And you tell me .Peace..
75 and still want to pogo to this !
Do it !!😀
Classics never die, they just get more relevant personally!! RIP Pete
One - two - three - faaaw
😂
Rest in peace, Mr. Shelley. You have made my childhood, adolescence, and adulthood periods less painful with your energy and sensitivity.
In my opinion, one of the more overlooked bands from the late 70's.
Great drummer 🥁
And he was something like 17
RIP Pete Shelley. Thanks for the sound.
For me, pushing mid-50's, every time I hear this it still takes me back and sends a tingle up my spine. Thanks Pete.
+Simon Kemp It was on the first album I ever bought. A Punk and New Wave compilation album. Still have it!

Yesterday drove back to London from Lincoln ,must have played this 20 times ,never tire of it
it was 1977 and I'd been waiting for groups and music like this...
3 years, rest in power
Today listening to this song was more hurtful than ever before R.I.P
Raw brilliance. Feel the energy!
What an amazing find,, great time to be a kid,, and all the music was new,,
Imagine being there!

Just heard this for the first time today! Why haven't I heard about this amazing band before?
why has it taken me so long to discover the buzzcocks...just watched a random interview with mike ness of social distortion and he mentioned them and so I checked them out. such good punk rock.
A great song from a moment in time that became ageless, but age catches us all...thank you Pete, May you find eternal peace
Pete Shelley, great artist! Such sensitivity and talent. Very underrated! Rest in Peace, love from your beloved Londrina! ❤️🤭
My mates were into the Pistols and the Clash. The Buzzcocks were 'my' band. They Still Are. Love em!
Beautiful energy and rawness from this excellent performance. Saw these in Llangollen a few years ago and they still made a damn good noise
Singer reminds me of a mix of Johnny Rotten and George Harrison
Haha , that's actually a pretty accurate hybrid to describe him, nice one
You are so right😂
And a little bit of Ramones...
A little bit of Mick Jones from The Clash also
More like Mick Jones of the Clash
love love love this - awesome!
I never more fall in love after hear this song! This then my commotion... Thanks Buzzcocks!!! I love this song!!
RIP Pete Shelley :(
Hopefully Ian Curtis and Mark E Smith were waiting for Pete to tell him "You did a great job! Want to start a new band?"
I got teased in grade school for listening to the Buzzcocks, Kraftwerk and the Jam. Whos laughing now?
I was lucky to meet Pete shelly in dundee in 1993 backstage at Oscars nightclub he was down to earth and very friendly guy what I liked about the buzzcocks was they made everything look so simple and never took themselves too seriously
He's so dreamy
Lol, I love how he says, "1 - 2 - 3 - Faaa!" :-) They sound great live! Man, I like this song... in fact, yes, I think I may have fallen in love with it.

Saw Buzzcocks play last night at Otago Uni. Steve Diggle looked like a man who had just seen 20 quid in the gutter.

So sad. Pete Shelly has passed at 63.

No glitz, no glitter, no excessive stage show - just pure sweat, adrenaline, and raw talent. WFT happened to music again?
They have a boring stage presence though, in my opinion
Tom Fiebig Maybe... but the crowd seem that they're having a great fun and that is what really matters. Sorry for my english.
:) Fair enough
Personally I just really love it when bands encourage movement within the crowd!
Your english is good! Just *like instead of that* and great fun or lots of fun without the 'a' :))

Saw them in Bangkok last night. Perfect size venue and fun show.
tears in my eyes
Four punks playing like mad in front of a beserk audience. Yeah, doesn't get better. John Maher was punk's furious broadside to Keith Moon.
so much raw energy, and the crowd enjoying it really
not idiots with their fuckin cellphones :)
yeah, back in the late 70's-80's, I'm sure no one really had a cellphone.
lol oddly they did. On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper, a Motorola researcher and executive, made the first mobile telephone call from handheld subscriber equipment, placing a call to Dr. Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs his rival.
Okay but phones didn't have cameras
Tortoise_Rights Activist also, phones were not affordable to everyone like they are now. I had a pager in the 90s...lol
I love this song and i love my daddy who showed me this music ❤
Should've been at the million view mark a long time ago. What a tune!
1 2 3 FAH
So fucking AWESOME!!!
:D
Classic for ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
some serious goosebumps I get whenever I listen to that song!!!!
dope!!
great song from a great band indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Robert Smith mentions Buzzcocks as an influence. You can hear "The Cure" in these guys
More like..You can hear "The Buzzcocks" in "The Cure" then :)

Matlock had talent
their talent is replete within the fact that they made one of the greatest albums of all time
they were fuckin brilliant
Now he’s gone, I wonder if Pete Shelley knew how much we loved him, and how much joy he bought to people.
BRILLIANT BAND ! 1st seen them up tiffanys in BLACKPOOL in 1978 ! gonna see them on sunday in preston !....
In this concern was The Smiths.
i also get a pervasive Smiths vibe from the song
The Smiths, Buzzcocks, Clash
+Krishan. P
the smiths????? fuck noooo
Rest In Peace, Peter Shelley. In a time of upheaval, the blast of raw chords, revolution & rebirth, Shelley seemed out of place in a sense. A seemingly sensitive, gentle soul amid a scene of chaos and noise.
Perfect song. Reminds me of Dreaming of You
I know this song from Shrek 2, and I only just found out that it was a cover...
man shrek 2 was the shit
Manchester is the city of music!!!
Brilliant live band. Loved them.
Great live version! Are the guitarist wearing a karatedress?
Ever seen Pete Townshend's white boilermaker suit w Doc Marten boots he wore from 69-71 Woodstock, Live at Leeds ??I think its a tribute coz he's a biig ass Townshend fan . Plenty of live footage from the period on YT . Just look at Woodstock .And you tell me .Peace..
The people in that church hall don't realise just what a special group that was!!!
