      Hi Jennifer,
I liked your video! I don't get a performance review because I'm a receptionist working as an employee; for a third-party agency. However, I do want to become a productive Administrator Assistant. I'm working on my Bachelor's degree in Business Management. Hopefully, I'll be able to move on and become a full-time employee for a potential employer with a reputable firm. Nevertheless, I found the five pointers you've shared valuable for the future and the information useful for a performance review I will have in the future.

@Dillon Ivany if you're not longer at the company as a direct result, reputation rehab is much more difficult. Most companies when you exit will categorize you as rehireable or not, and if a manager or HR person decided on not there may not be a path back. I suggest focusing forward. What did you love about the company? What values are very important to you? Then focus on your search for your next dream job to the next one.
And choose to focus on the positive now and in your next job. This might be a step up opportunity in your career - like to land in a more positive place and with a refreshed focus on your awesomeness at work rather than what goes on around you.

1-Gather data: job description, success metrics, the impact of your work, qualitative data like testimonials
2-Communication: Deliver the data to HR (makes their lives easier), only share facts
3-Self-evaluation: Goals you want to reach and skills you want to improve on
4-Set a goal for the performance meeting: Perfect time to talk about promotions, raises, bonus, education
    5-Get into the right mindset

all of these are useless - IMO if you want a raise and/or promotion. just go find a better job somewhere else and negotiate hard on that offer

You guys get it so hard in USA. The threat of being dismissed from day to day must create enormous pressure. This is why you try so hard during your reviews. Bosses should receive performance review from their employees too.

If they annoy me enough, I give it to them and put it in writing whether they like it or not. The argument to the higher ups is whether they'd prefer to read it in an email or on glassdoor.

Kind of depends on the employer. With mine, we have performance reviews but they’re more of a formality. You’d have to do something really stupid in order to get yourself fired. That being said, although you probably won’t get fired for missing them here and there, you still have to meet your goals and exceed them where possible. You don’t want to be the only one that consistently doesn’t. Again, it depends on the company.

It would be my second performance review next year and I’m trying to make a list early on of my accomplishments as they come so that I’m prepared and not waiting till the week I have to do my self evaluation to be scrambling. Very few people I think at my job do the self evaluation but I love doing mine because it’s the only time I can actually say everything I’ve done. My manager even reworded what I said lol. I chose “exceeds expectations” instead of outstanding because it was my first year. Next year I’m aiming for “outstanding” 😊
A mistake I made was being extremely nervous during the zoom call with 5 of my supervisors about it. I wish I could of asked what I can do to improve. Next time though if I don’t get that outstanding 👍🏼

@@JenniferBrick not very well. Feedback was great. But I had been preparing for weeks... and one of my manager called me 10 min before to tell me what I needed to say. It made me completely panic. All I had prepared was "un-prepared" and I disregarded what I had in mind and at heart to follow my managers lead.
On top of that, when I am not prepared, English doesn't come very easy to me... and I did not manage to express anything very well. I have been feeling very bad since then.
I need to work on my confidence... I will check your video on how to feel confident... :-(

@@Chtarby I'm sorry it didn't go well. I totally understand how flustering it can be when you don't feel like you're ready for the conversation you're having, even as a native speaker.
One thing I've learned to do is explain that I need to process things; you can do this too, and you can even say you need a moment to think through a response or something you want to say because of the fact you have to translate it first in your head. Most people are really understanding.
I know it's hard when you're going through this, but this is going to make you strong and more confident in the future. You obviously care and are proactive, and these qualities will help you rise.
