McGregor Isn't The Greatest UFC Fighter, But He's The Most Important

  • Ever since the infancy of McGregor’s career inside the Octagon, he’s been the one calling the shots. And despite what he’d have you believe, he’s definitely not in consideration for the greatest MMA fighter of all time. But he is, undeniably, the most important athlete in the history of the sport.

    Conor is top 15 of all time. We all know he's the biggest superstar in MMA history but no one can deny his accomplishments. Ran through the Featherweight division and destroyed Aldo in the fastest finish in a title fight. He could have stayed at 145 but decided to challenge himself and move up, lost to Nate Diaz but bounced back and beat him in the rematch. Then gives us one of the most single extraordinary performances by defeating Alvarez and becoming double champ. The first fighter in history to do so. Went to fight arguably the greatest boxer of all time and actually held his own. Came back after a 2 year layoff and faced Khabib, the first fighter to win a round

    Your points are very valid. People either overrate him or pretend he's pure trash, but he's really skilled and has some decent feats. Just not as much as other greats, which makes laughable to even put him as one of the GOATs.
    But he's definitely the greatest outside the octagon. This is good and bad.
    Bad because now fighters try way too hard to be like him and sell more PPVs, but good because the bigger your sport gets, bigger the chances of seeing even more talented fighters, which is great for the business and for us, as fans.

    really good fighter when he was on his prime. U don't become a double champ being shit. Really skilled and fought really good fighters. First, one to win a round vs khabib after 2 years of doing nothing except drinking whiskey that shows his talent. I would say he is def a top 15 fighter of all time. He reminds me a bit like Muhammed Ali, Ali is probably not the GOAT in terms of boxing but he was an incredible boxer and the people's Champ. When u think about boxing Ali comes to your mind and when u think about MMA most people think about Connor

    If coner din't went for party n drinking the whole time after beating alverez n become a double champ in 2 devission, he should stayed n keep training like the way he used to, instead of partying all the time, coner would have batter chance to beat khabib with his technique n striking, before he got take down by khabib on the ground he would have went to knock out khabib in 2, or in 3rd round, TBH coner can take a serious punch from his opponents when he got really tired but he never falldown its hard to knock him out on top of that khabib dosn't have a power to knock out coner we all so khabib give his full power punch on coner face still not even fall down but if khabib got a left hand by coner the fight is over, coner left hand is something else , khabib is not good at striking, kicking, or knock out his opponent he only have a great wrestling grabling n went for submission onnthe ground, but if they fight standing face to face khabib don't have a chance to beat coner, coner is 1 of the most intertainer n smartest fighter in ufc history, his mistake was he took a lots of risk n fouth in too many weight divisions, he start his ufc debute at 145 n dominate beating all the top contenders, n move up to 170 against nate is crazy, 145 to move up 170 is not eazy only a few fighter can do that but its not gona b eazy to beat those fighter, but coner was smarter than any other fighter n beat in rematch against 1 of the bad ass nate, during his prime time before he spend his time in partying, after becoming double champ in his previous organization to hold 2 title belt in 2 weight devision n coming to ufc n beat all the top fighter n became the 1st fighter to do it double cham champ in 2 weight divisions while he is dominate in 3 weights divisions, at the age of 30, after that he have everything he want in his life n not focusing too much in his fight game is his downfall, he even reach round 10 in his 1st boxing debute against one the best boxer on the planet floyd Mayweather. Floyd nearly lost in the bigining by knock out but he escape n coner don't have a stamina like floyd because boxing is 12 round fight n mma is 5 round, but making more than 100 millions in that fight, n he lost his personality not focusing in training too much only start training before 1 month while his opponent is focusing n training every single day since day 1 which is why he lost to khabib otherwise he would have knock out khabib with his striking abilities, or even by heat kick aswell as coner is very good in spining back kich on the ribs which cost difficult to breath thats what happen to chat mandes, when he ask for rematch khabib refuse m sure khabib scared n don't want to lost to conner like nate lost to coner, many people disagree but conner is one of the best fighter in ufc history, he is batter than khabibib, khabib only fought in lightweight n retired at the age of only 30 thats why he is not on the to 5 in ufc eben though he never lostbin his career the real champion never retired at their peak when they are on the top, most of the top fighter retired at almost 40 some are even fighting at 45, 46 years of age.

    • @ysph

      yes. the sport is a complete mockery of what it once was, for sure. the rankings have been deligitimized, the promoters have gone to intentionally cherry picking matchups to sell you tickets, there are rounds and breaks, they stand the damn grapplers up because they're supposedly not fighting. it's a fuckin' shame. isn't all that dickweeds fault though. i miss the old days, but i wouldn't wish that kind of pay on the fighters again. UFC used to be something really special. Now they sell merch. It's since become the least legitimate sport, but the most legitimate business. breaks my heart man. you gotta respect all the fighters out there that don't work for ufc on principal or walked away from them because they're not what they pretend to be. it's still fun, but they have taken such a shit on the fighters who are breaking their bones and shit to get those belts because the credibility doesn't come with them anymore. because dollars, no one knows who the real champions are. some fighters really really only want to be called the best. Justin, for instance. the cake is a lie. poor guy. dreams of being a champion smashed by dana white of all people. but it ain't mcgregor's fault. he's not important. he brings the casuals which is where the money comes from. if you fight so conor can be rich, then all is well in the UFC. if you fight because you wanted to be recognized as the very best in the world, by your peers and less so the "fans" then you're shit out of luck until you fight out your contract, dumb-ass. hope you don't get injured, right? if you're an mma fan, you would be very disappointed in what ufc has become.

    • @ysph
      @ysph Před 2 lety

      and disappointed that great fighters have to stoop to fighting in fabricated rankings which is a damn tragedy man, but so they can make a decent paycheck they have to sell out to dana's WWE 2.0 machine. don't thank these people for destroying your sport. ..... lol i just thought of that damn C.M. Punk sponsorship or whatever it was. Is money really that important man? now that dollars are soon to be worth cents, was it all worth it? this is what the UFC has done: now, because of what they've done to the competitive aspects of this world mma entertainment brand, the fighters will always have to put up with the shit-heel fans that dial their phones and mock them cruelly after getting starched on national TV. because the casuals pay for these conor tickets and crap and the casuals are the only people that recognize their champions, place any value in the titles. now the fighters NEED the casuals. this shit's the twilight zone to me.

      @ysph Před 2 lety

      if you understood khabib's language, you would look at him a lot differently i think.

He is the reason champ champ fightsare a thing, why cross over fights are a thing, why every fkn champion rn wants to move up and challenge for another, why people look forward to the fightweek and mic so much. I dont give a fk how many of you fools get triggered by this but for the impact they had on the sport, Conor McGregor smokes everybody. Anderson Silva, GSP, Jon Jones, any of them. Genuinely they cant even compare to what Conor has done for MMA and it makes me sick how despite all his effort and impact people keep disrespecting him just because he lost a few fights when he was out if his prime.
