    McGregor's resume is actually really great, being the first to hold two belts in different weight classes, fought in three weight classes, has wins over Holloway, Aldo, Poirier, Alvarez, Diaz, Mendes etc. Never turned down a fight on short notice, he's a finisher and can anyone bring up a McGregor fight that was boring?

    • @jasongabagoop1766
      @jasongabagoop1766 Před 5 lety +12

      Hi T1000 Floyd isn’t the GOAT of boxing ffs, the fact that pillow hands managed to put mcgregor away is telling. Floyd and McGregor were 2 weight classes apart. Someone like GGG or Canelo would destroy Conor in 2rds.
      Edie was shot long before he got in the UFC - wars with Chandler, got finished 3 times before that. Cowboy chopped him down
      When Conor got to Aldo and Chad they both were not the same after those wars. to get the shot Conor fought Denis Siver instead of Edgar
      Porier was killing himself to make 145, so was Conor. Conor smoked him, but MJ did the same to him in more brutal fashion in 155
      Max was to green, I’m not saying Conor would lose now, but it will be a different fight.
      Conor’s most impressive performance was coming back in rematch against Nate and going 5 full rounds. the strategy to beat Diaz was always the same - chop the legs, take him down and control. If Conor has better leg kicks or control based wrestling style Nate wouldn’t be a problem.

      Jason Gabagoop: Fact is McGregor schools Mayweather, GGG, n Canelo in an mma fight. Mayweather was older than everyone he fought except for Oscar, Mosley n Marquez so your argument about Floyd being older goes out the window.
      Eddie beat Pettis, Melendez, Justin, n RDA but was "shot" once he fought Conor? Sounds convenient enough lol.
      So Aldo was killing it for a decade yet got old once he fought Conor? Sounds convenient!
      Poirier was killing himself at 145? Have u ever seen McGregor weigh in at 145?! Poirier never looked that bad yet still got smoked in 1 round.

      Nah, his most impressive fight ever was against Alvarez, 3 fights after Aldo. Even after Conor lost to Khabib, he still showed his brilliance again a short 3 months later against Cerrone and finished him in 40seconds. Conor's problem is he took 2 full years off from MMA. Before that he was taking fights every few months. And his first fight back after 2 years away? Against the LW goat.

      GhostlySkyy I understand that.. but that happened. Most guys that wouldn’t have ever happened. Just having that on his resume IMO helps in his favour towards an eventual GOAT title possibility. Of course, he has a LOT more work to do to get to that (ie. fighting past champs, staying dominant within multiple weight classes against opponents with great records themselves. A win over Khabib would only be a notch for him towards GOAT status. Next I’d like to see another Holloway annihilation and possible GSP superfight.

    This is a genuinely fascinating fight because there is no clear path to victory for either guy. Conor has legit 1 punch KO power, but Khabib has shown that he can take a shot from heavy hitters, Michael Johnson and Edson Barboza come to mind, and then dominate. Conor also has a good chin, so I doubt Khabib's ground and pound will trouble him, but all 3 of his losses are by tap out, so who knows. No disrespect to Nate and Chad, but their ground games are not Khabib's and the ground is where Conor is weakest. I'm predicting Round 2 KO for Conor or Round 4 submission for Khabib. Now that I've said that though Conor will probably win by Round 1 submission ^_^ joking aside this should be amazing.

    • @masonengland6692
      @masonengland6692 Před 5 lety +3

      Robman275 I hear what your saying but I think Khabib is way too one dimensional and Conors ground game isn't even bad, he was just gassed out

    • @Robman275
      @Robman275 Před 5 lety +3

      Maybe but that's easier said than done. Conor has never faced a grappler like Khabib and Khabib has never faced a striker than Conor. Also both guys have very unusual styles. Khabib has that very upright, almost leaning back, standup stance that would make Conor's front kick and punches harder to land and possibly less impactful, likewise Conor's unique strikes could put Khabib to sleep mid takedown and at least make him think twice about his constant forward pressure style. Another thing to consider is size. Khabib is bigger overall, which will benefit a ground fight, but Conor has longer reach and when you consider the round always starts on the feet, that's a huge plus for Conor. So no I don't think there's a clear path for either because they are so unusual and unmatched in their respective styles.

    • @ljs185
      @ljs185 Před 5 lety +4

      Id say khabib has never faced a striker nearly as good as conor. Edson doesnt have the distance control. If Khabib doesnt get a 1st rd takedown hes getting violently KOd. But if he gets one, he will gas Conor out and smash his face in, its all about the 1st round! I cant wait!

    • @Robman275
      @Robman275 Před 5 lety +2

      Mason England, I disagree about Khabib being one dimensional. As we saw in the Edson Barboza and Al Iaquinta fights, his stand up is developing. I know he's not on Conor's level of striking, but his stand up is improving. Also, even if Khabib is one dimensional it's a hell of a dimension! And yes I agree Conor's ground game isn't that bad, but it is his weakest point and his losses are all by submission. Thing is though Khabib doesn't look for submissions as often as expected. That could actually work in Conor's favour. If Khabib wants ground and pound and ragdoll rather than go for the finish, that my come back to bite him, so you may actually be right.

    • @NeosUK
      @NeosUK Před 5 lety +4

      Look at BJJScouts video on mcgregors takedown defense. When timed right he stops takedowns in the middle of the octagon very easily. However God save him if khabib gets him on the fence, if conor wins this he avoids the fence at all costs and takes him out in the centre.

    Yeah he asked for a rematch because like you said he dominated the division for 10 years. Jose is about the only guy not to get an immediate rematch after losing his title despite having one of the best records. That's the only he "whined" about not Conor sitting out holding the belt hostage then vacating the belt without ever defending it.

      what a retarded comment, Conor is world class at everything but it's overshadowed. He is in the 1 percent but there are other guys in the 1 percent that are even better at some aspects of fighting. He built his style around striking but that doesn't mean he isn't good at anything else, other elites have testified to that.

Most of the guys in the UFC are good grapplers but they aren't great grapplers. Except guys like Damian Maia, rohnda or lesner or going back bj penn. Those guys and girls are world class not connor. Connor is a good grappler, great striker, World class pain in the ass.

      se but the thing is and these are facts you don't know how much khabib will control tony on the ground. khabib even said himself tony is by far my worst matchup. kevin mounted him too alright the guy who destroyed barboza worse then khabib did. he still tapped to tony. do not ever count tony out in there. he is creative in there and noone figures out situations better then him. i think tony could beat khabib knowing hs jiu jitsu and his creativeness the way i see it khabib cannot finish well and tony his pace is a pure killer. plus khabib has not been tested i truly believe that. as awesome as he looks in there he has not been tested against anyone. he beat rda who always struggles against any wrestler. beat barboza who sucks on the ground but could not finish and iaquinta who is ranked on the end of the top 15. now tony has the same resume almost and sure got beat by johnson but the guys khabib could not finish tony has finished and has fought them all in their own strong suit. he is a complete mixed martial artist anyone who says he is not the best packge of the 3 is kidding himself. and tony has been hit but never came close to being finished. he knocked mofo's out at 170 aswell. all of em. khabib'smost impressive victory is RDA i woud say and even then. yeah he dominates alright but be real the real killers are still waiting for him. i think he beats conor but tony and kevin are a different story

  • @Yzjoshuwave
    @Yzjoshuwave Před 5 lety

    Totally agree with Chael on this. There are at least 2 more unknowns we should take into account of on this. One is an expansion of our knowledge that Conor can take a ridiculous amount of pressure: he is also able to put a ridiculous amount of psychological pressure on his opponents. It's not quite in what he says, but it comes through in what he says. Is it confidence? It's at least tied to confidence. I'm thinking of it like an impenetrable wall - that nothing you do or say shakes him up even a little bit. He's not reacting - he's responding; he has executive control over his own behaviors that give him a readiness to knock someone cold at a moment's notice. And the dynamite in his left hand changes everything. It's not the same thing to be afraid of getting beaten up for 15 minutes with shots you can ultimately handle, as it is to be faced with that 1 shot that can drop you in an instant. My biggest question will be whether Khabib is really going to come in there and be Khabib. Or is he going to come in there and look like Eddie Alvarez - a seriously game opponent who just "feels off" and can't give a clear explanation for why he lost? On the other hand, Khabib... IS KHABIB. A terrifying monster with intense and brutal GnP.
    I think we also have to wonder if Conor is training the way he was. $100 Million isn't just a jump in pay. It's a jump in pressure and in the number of crazy distractions. Will this have impacted Conor's training? Is he going to go in with the same kind of fire as he had in the Alvarez fight? This matchup is going to be crazy. Even the build up is going to be so incredibly interesting. Can't Wait!

    This time I'm right there with Chael. It can go either way, tbh. It's all about who is better prepared mentally that night and fights smarter. That being said, it's also about who has prepared in camp smarter. Not for nothing but I follow McGregor on social media and damn near every post related to training has been ground work. He knows Khabib is a huge threat there and he is preparing for it. If he can keep it standing he wins all day. If he gets taken down clean, he'll lose unless that Irish luck kicks in. Again, I can see it going either way.
