There were also heavy winds in London at that time. On the 26th of April I was on board BMI Belfast City - London Heathrow. The pilot aborted landing in the last seconds... I expected the plane to touch the ground, but it went up. Couldn't believe you can abort landing so late without hitting the ground with the tail... !! There was a bit of a panic on board. Please, let me know if there's any video of it; with those winds and the pilots' late decision to abort it must have looked scary...
because it's ITN and it helps to sensationalise the story. This sort of weather happens around the world on a daily basis with little or no drama or danger. In many cases a 'go-around' is the safest course of action, followed by up to 2 more attempts and then a diversion to another airport.
Good Lord! Winds of 65 kph=35 knots. It looks like it was gusty. I landed in Denver a couple of months ago with crosswinds of 21 gusting to 32 knots. Sporty? Yes. Did it require concentration? Yes. Excessively dangerous? No...
I am from Bilbao and I landed like this a loooot of times. The Bilbao airport is located in Txorierri valley (Txorierri means "land of the birds"). No problem.
Im from Bilbao. I think with these conditions they should've cancelled the flight , I think its kinda dangerous, but of course, but if it was vueling, they wouldn't cancel. They just want money
Agreed for safety reason they should 've cancelled the flights, it is fucking mad, to make money they will people in such a dangerous conditions. (i hate planes )
With a crosswind like that, the airport should've closed immediately. They were very lucky they aren't scraping those passengers off the tarmac with a shovel.
Great video catch!
fantastic video love to see those cosswinds thanks for sharing
I was on board the last one. Vueling from Barcelona Will NEVER forget seeing the runway perpendicular to my window!!!
If there was really serious danger, no one would have attempted to land and the airport would have been closed. Great job by the pilots!

Um... why is the video sped up? It makes it look way worse than it really is.
I just remember a really bad crash (Kansas?, a couple of decades ago) where a crosswind/wind shear was involved during the landing, killing many.

I read that they had gusts up to 70knots that day.... if that's the case, they are lucky to be alive.

yellowpress bullshit. Certainly good crosswind, but at that angle footage is always dramatic.
