I bet Meg's cooking is a really good reason to sign up for your classes. What a team.
Meg…as I am a Southern girl born in Thibodaux, LA…a gumbo is whatever your heart desires it to be! And for those who do not understand…”bless their hearts!”
I love searching for Buggy in each video clip. It’s like looking for where’s Waldo. She walks in on the scene, takes a bite of some thing, and moves on. She’s delightful!
And in the opening scenes there she was, the little miss, in a dress with her hair done up. Sadly, growing up to be a young lady.
@@Steve-od6hi , Oh, those of us who have raised a little sweetie pie know how fast the years go. We want to freeze that little Buggy in time so as to enjoy every minute of her. It’s like that song.🎶 Turn around and they are tiny, turn around, and they are grown. Turn around and they’re young moms with babes of their own.🎶 . Aren’t we blessed to be able to watch her grow?🌹🥰
Me toooo ❤❤❤❤
@@wandafigueroa6281 , Yes you too Wanda!🥰👍🏼
Yes, it’s fun to play, I spy Buggy and Millie. Cameos by the boys are always appreciated. Good workers!
Wow, Meg is cooking up a storm! Cool to see you giving the pigs hay. I'm glad you are having warmer temperatures. It's great that you're set-up ahead of time. I like the Redmond Real Salt banner on the gable end of the barn above the door. Thank you to the viewer that gave Ben the hackberry table top! So you can clean it with salt and apple cider vinegar. That sounds great. Wow, biscuits, rolls, bread! Yum, gumbo for dinner. Surf and turf gumbo! Yum, pork shoulder and spiced chicken meals. That's great that the neighbor will be filming the class. Great job guys! Thanks for this video Hollar family!
Wow, a man that reconfigures his sawhorses to accommodate a butchering class is very dedicated 😂😮😅😊
Meg and Ben, yes, everything will be fine for the class and Meg's wonderful cooking. God bless.
That is Creole Gumbo with chicken, sausage, and some seafood. I am New Orleans born and raised. Your gumbo is what I have eaten a lot growing up. Blessings.
Good to know, thank you!
@@TheHollarHomesteadHow close are you to the brush fires??? 🤔 ❤ 😢
Autumn is such a gorgeous season. It is heartwarming to hear how much you appreciate the smells, the sounds, and the sights of the "every day". Thank you for sharing.
That’s exactly how we make our gumbo! From now on We’ll call it Surf and Turf Gumbo.
Meg, my family is from South Mississippi and Louisiana. My mom made gumbo with surf and turf. The generations that came before us used a lot of seafood because it was cheap for them. The surf and turf gumbo just keeps the tradition alive. Feeding as many as possible as cheaply as possible. And heck. Let’s be honest. All gumbo is good.
Amen 🙏 @Gulf Coast
Yes! That’s how I make my gumbo too! My family has loves it that way.
I feel you Meg. I love cooking for people. It’s a labor of love. It’s a way to show appreciation and love. ❤
In my younger years I was like Meg. Always enough for any who stop by or I’d whip something up lol.
Meg, you have such a caring heart 💜 Always thinking of others 😉
And Buggy looks so grown up with her hair pulled up 💖
👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Have fun this weekend! Tell Buggie we love her ponytail!
I like B Ben teasing Meg a bit about all the cooking, but his face was glowing with pride.
my grannie from Mississippi said gumbo was" you throw in the pot, what you got, to feed a lot!"
I’m so excited for you! I know everything will be just fine. I’m glad Michaela is filming it. I can’t wait to see it. Have you noticed how much more organized you have become every time you present a class? 👍🏼 Good luck and God bless!
Let's be honest, Ben wash a table, but Meg are cooking for an army in the same time.
I would love to hear how Meg made it out to California from Louisiana and how you two met each other.
Yall are amazing there, 5 kids in a single wide home with mostly homegrown food and awesome healthy home cooking.
You all are so blessed to be living my dream. Just keep smiling as you work and pray and play, all will be well with this wicked world.
Whatever y'all pay for this course, it's worth it just for Meg's cookin!!!!!
❤️❤️❤️
Meg, while he was boasting about being through. I was thinking Meg, give the man something to do 😂
When you come to the Hollar's house, Meg will certainly feed you well!!!!🥰 And Ben is a great instructor!!👍 Your butchering class will be very informative. I'll be anxious to hear how it went come next Tuesday on your video.
Meg, and Ben I'm sure both the class, and food will be amazing. Don't stress, just be yourself. Have fun, enjoy! Have a blessed weekend.
That gumbo looked fantabulous. And the tabletop is gleaming...
Hey Meg! I fix "surf and turf gumbo" too. It is delicious and we love it. When you are land locked, nice fresh sea food is not available. So, we do what we have. :)
Oh look how sweet buggie is with her hair up.😊
Meg should create a cookbook to sell. I know I would buy it! Everything she makes looks so yummy!
YES!!! That's the best idea ever!
I agree!!!
Lord, calm their nerves and reassure their confidence. Pour Your blessings on these beautiful people. Amen!
Just want to take a moment …Thank You Hollar Family for all the vlogs. It’s been an especially great year of watching you cook, farm and raise a family.
It is so amazing to see how hard Meg works to make sure everyone is fed not just on a daily bases but on a busy day of butchering at the farm. When you were down putting hay in pins for the pigs, seeing the sun shining down on the green house and your home was just so beautiful. To think how thick those woods were before you put the pigs in the woods is truly amazing. Great video Ben shows great quality as always.
I loved hearing Buggy singing in the background during first few minutes of the video. Your family working together makes your videos so enjoyable to watch. You are building wonderful memories. Meg your meals always look amazing. You are Wonder Woman.
Our power was off. I said. I'll watch you, then shut my cellphone off. I'm DEDICATED.
Power came on at 6:30p.m.
Yes, it's called Indian summer. MEG, YOU'RE cooking well.
Every one will be BLESSED.
Cute, hearing BUGGIE Singing.
Love and PRAYING. You will teach fantastic BEN. 🙏 Pray.
Hey Hollers, I am super late😮.
We have hunkered down for a couple of days now.
We had our first Snowstorm ( didn't form) but the wind was fierce🌬 .
This weekend is wash everthing while its still 45°bedding etc.
Enjoy your warmth before its gone 🥶.
JO JO IN VT 💞
Y’all are adorable and you only get nervous cause y’all truly care
The look you gave the camera when she said "and then I'll season meats". I heard that!!! LOL
In Days gone bye they used to sell sand soap blocks, to scrub kitchen tables, they were about ten inches long and five inches wide and about five inches high, tapered toward the top so they were easier to hold, it was a daily ritual to scrub the table daily, as the table was used for everything from butchering to eating, and lots of other stuff. I remember as a child watching my grand mum scrubbing the table.
I made cinnamon swirl bread using Meg's recipe, well my husband said I had to lose the recipe cause he says he's gonna get fat, it was too good lol
Best part of the class is eating Meg's cooking 💕
Wish you Good luck on your class and have fun and don't forget to breath
Love all of you,
Cathy , from Tennessee
Blessings for safety, health, strength, wisdom, peace and success to everyone in your homestead class. Hope that you have a great weekend. ☝️🙏🙌💪
Thank you for sharing, Mikaylah and Taylor. Its fun to watch them grow as homesteaders. I bet they have learned a lot from you and Meg. Yall are awesome.
✨will work for biscuits✨
😂😂😂
I found that using salted shrimp (comes in a jar, used in Asian cooking) makes a fantastic substitute for shrimp in a gumbo for when you don't have any fresh. Brings the flavor to the party.
You just gotta reduce the salt in the recipe to compensate. I found that out the hard way, but the trick to removing salt from a soup or stew is raw potatoes. Cut into quarters or eighths, drop in, cook till soft. They soak up the excess salt, and as a bonus, bulk up a meal.
Our gumbo is based around andouille sausages, okra, green lentils and shrimp or salted shrimp. The green lentils brings more fiber, nutrients and protein to the party, and are super meaty and tasty.
I absolutely love to see young people living this lifestyle! I’ve always made homemade food from scratch and Meg is super awesome and how she uses everything and frugally ways!! I’m 63 and still cook homemade food and it’s only hubby and I so I freeze whatever is left bc I always make way too much. Keep doing what you guys do and encouraging young people to live this wonderful lifestyle!!❤🙏💪🏼😎
Baby girl is always sing or humming love that sound
Meg: I am in Louisiana. Seafood gumbo is my favorite but we also do rooster gumbo with smoked sausage when we cull the flock . We also make rooster spaghetti with the birds. Why don't y'all do pot lucks for the classes?
Every cloud has a silver lining. Next year your Blackberry harvest should be fantastic with the good soaking and manure the plants have had. Mmmmmmm. Apple and Blackberry Pie. Wonderful.
I CAN SAY THAT ALL OF US WAIT FOR 5 O’CLOCK TO COME SWIFTLY
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am sure all will go well, and I am equally sure if the unexpected happens you will cope too. 💕💕🌻🌻
My gumbo has always had shrimp, sausage and some other meat. Usually chicken or pork. Cajun/creole is about using what is available or using up the leftovers.
As I watch this on Friday morning I feel for both of u and know you are both working so hard in prep for these classes. Take care of yourselves! Stress like what I can relate to in seeing all Meg is doing in the kitchen can get to b too much that it isn't worth it.
Meg reminds me of my daughter, she also loves to feed people good home cooked meals and can never just do the minimum. ❤❤❤
I think people REALLY come just to eat Megs fabulous food! 💜🇺🇸
Maybe finding an old broken top fold out table and taking the legs of that and putting them on the table top so you can still store it out of the way?
After seeing the meals that Meg is putting together, I wish I had the time to come for the class. 👍❤️
What a beautiful view! Thank you for sharing that, it's been cloudy here and that just made it all better!😉
Buggy looks so adorable with her hair in a ponytail..
Have a great class folks!! See when we see!!
You both are in your natural element. You both will be great!
Yay for Mickayla! Thank you girl! Ben and Meg, thank you so much for providing these opportunities for people to come and learn!
we all get butterflies from time to time the day will go smoothly Ben, and Meg your home cooking will be a great hit. have a great harvest on Friday guys.
I live in town and cannot have a pig, but I would love to one day come down your way and just help Meg cook the meals. I'm a cook not a butcher girl.
It appears that everything is ready for your class! I look forward to your video of the class🤗! Good luck on a very successful class and the great meals Meg will prepare for all those lucky people💜💜💜💜💜!
I didn’t know that pigs ate hay. Learn something new everyday.
Best times of your lives.
Shrimp okra gumbo is out of this world
Hope you have a very successful event this weekend!
Congrats on passing 150k!!! Your dedication to a filming schedule is reaping some subs!
Good luck with your class today!! Hope the weather cooperates! It's raining here in KY but supposed to stop around 9 AM.
You guys are truly a pleasure to watch thank you for sharing.
Good luck this weekend! It’s going to be great.
❤❤❤
Good afternoon!
Jason is building a fence... maybe it's a good time for a milk cow. 😂 you could cow share. When are you going to play the guitar for us. I hope you have a nice evening.
❤❤❤
Looks like a nice dinning table. It’s a wonder Meg hasn’t lay claim to it.
You will be fine, Ben and Meg, your menu looks delicious. See you next week!😊
Wow! Your son is your height at this point. My girls have exceeded my height as well. I didn't realize how long I have been watching yall. It's a glorious thing to watch children grow under a fantastic foundation. Tyfs daily.
Yay! I love getting notified you've posted a new video.
Have to say I've never had gumbo but, Meg that looked delicious.
If I lived closer I come just for Meg's meals and homemade bread, rolls and biscuits yum ( I already know how to butcher pigs, cows, chickens deer, turkeys and fish) 😊
Ben have fun and good luck with your class and have a great weekend.
Blessings to you and the family. 😊🇺🇲
Meg I understand how it is when you have a bunch of people at your home...the cooking begins and sometimes when is enough? 😊 It's good that you will have help with the video, one less thing to do. Ben you will be great! You know your stuff! Remember both of you to enjoy.
Have a wonderful class with great fellowship! Happy weekend &thanks for sharing! Blessings to everyone 🤗💕🇨🇦
Wonderful meal for a family of 6 & 1/2, And so many choices every day, your one in a million girl friend , Carry on and have a great day pigging out
Have a great class.
I'm sure class will be a big success as usual. Already looking forward to next week.
Oh man that twang came put there, Meg! Loved it! ❤ I'll be baking a ton this weekend, the indoor fun days with my girls. Apple muffins, cookies, banana cookies, maybe something with my canned peaches
I would join, just to learn Megs cooking, and eat! Wish I had her skills!
Hi guys. Wishing you all the best of everything for your class🙏😊
I think whatever Meg cooks is good.
"It's kinda disappointing that it's not freezing cold"??? Seriously Ben? This Northern gal says you may need to rethink your tolerance for disappointment! lol Indian Summer is THE Best! And Meg, as hard as you work in the kitchen, serving gumbo for two nights in a row is pretty awesome! Best to you all on your upcoming class! 😁
Y'all are both so cute. And so real. You are both gonna be amazing, I'm sure.
I'm sure you'll do great Ben. I hope y'all keep safe and have a blast!
People sign up for a class just to taste Megs cooking 😅
Yes Meg you are right, Ben will be chopping veggies. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
"it goes against my DNA not to feed people".
I had to chuckle - thats every Irish Parent. I cant visit friends without one of two things happening, me taking something from the allotment, or a cake with me, and being stuffed with food by friends, their parents, or even grandparents.
The last time I went to visit a friend in the Mourne Mountains I came away with a leg of lamb, and stuffed me with lunch, dinner, dessert and cakes.
good luck everybody
It is beautiful! Our rain took down all the leaves. Michigan Fall/Winter is moving in 😊
Yes it is. We had a thunderstorm last night.
Our power was off for hours. Just came back a little bit ago.
FROM SE MICHIGAN.
@evalinawarne1337 happy to hear you have power again. Thankfully, ours didn't go out.
Tri cities here. We were lucky here, but cold is in the air!!
Meg’s time to shine. ❤
Looks like you are ready for your workshop with work space and food preps. Looks like food for an army. 😊💞
If I lived close to you all I would sign up for your class just to eat Meg's cooking .
Good luck guys. All the best
Gumbo is supposed to be what you have on hand. Mom makes turkey gumbo after Thanksgiving.
Beautiful fall with the trees and the wind blowing through the trees!
