The True Nature & Purpose of the Others! - Game of Thrones Season 8 (End Game Theory)

- čas přidán 7. 06. 2024
- Welcome back for another A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones Season 8 End Game Theory video. Today I will be discussing the true nature and purpose of the Others. This is a theory that was sent to me via email just a few days ago. It was uploaded to Reddit over 4 years ago, and it was also given two gold awards. Since this was such a popular theory, I am wondering how people feel about it today. We are getting very close to finding out how Game of Thrones will come to an end. Does this theory about the White Walkers and the Night King still hold up? Why did the Others come back? What do the Others want? What is the Night King's plan, and end game? What role does Jon Snow have in the end game? Let me know how you feel about all of this down below. Thanks for watching the video!

Im pretty sure aaron said that to michonne on thes walking dead as well

Theories shattering just like the night king did
Unfortunately.
Your intro with Littlefinger's phrase gives me goosebumps every time. I love it, i need it
Same here
New ringtone XD
Yup, same. It's so epic x_x.
I whisper it along 😂
Same here. I love his videos, but I admit that opening is the best part, lol.
Now I'm actually pissed off that the show didn't do this justice
Plot Twist
The Night King: Just wants to have some living friends, as everyone just runs away
Cersei Lannister: Sets up an orphanage
Makes sense for The Night King to desire some human friends.
But for Cersei to set up an orphanage for even her children 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
Game Of Thrones can I make a suggestion. Since you do so well with your breakdown videos; how about before season 8 you break down each season either all at once or episode by episode?
he could chill the beer I don't see any ice machines in esteros
Well if his buddies didn’t try eat everyone, who stayed, he could have some.
It’s like that one bad friend who tries to fight everyone when he’s drunk. You can’t take that fool to any new party without trouble.
Or, he could just have a kink for brown hair/eyes, but all the northern girl’s hair turn white, and eyes turn blue, when he changes them.
Did you ever wish that Jon would've just shouted "What do you want?" at the Night King during any of their epic tv staredowns? The NK didn't have to answer, of course. But dammit, at least ask the guy, instead of standing there brooding like a dumbass. "You don't understand." What, Jon? What don't we understand?
The CZcamsr GrayArea, once in a discussion with Joe the Magician, about the epic staredown at Hardhome, described it as "flexing and throwing up gang signs." I about wet myself 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@bonnafide2606 I remember that! It was hilarious.
It's so good to find a fellow member of house blackwood. The biggest upset was no house blackwood on the show.
@@bethaofhouseblackwood234 Not by name, but definitely by blood... Dany, Jon, Bloodraven, the 3 Baratheon brothers, Shireen, & Gendry. Not too shabby! :)
That's because Jon Snow knows nothing.
Night king wants to go into westrois to know podricks secrets 🙃🙃🙃🙃
if anyone learns it PLESAS pass it on God know we need it
Take time to explore your woman an you'll have the power podrick has
Pod’s secret is simple. He’s actually half-octopus.
Pod's secrets are that Little Finger probably wanted to get information out of Podrick so he had the women flatter him way over the top and were never going to charge him in the hopes to get Pod to talk or at least lower his guard with questions , especially given the role Pod occupies and important characters he is often around.
@@AndrewK23777 Thanks god now realm is safe from all danger
I really like this theory, it ties in to the cave etchings @ Dragon Stone & some of Old Nan’s stories. Not much has been said about the comet at the beginning of the story, which seems to set off a flurry of awareness of ‘something coming’ from many in Essos & Westeros.
When you look at the Night's King(Night King) you can see he's not evil, he is pissed off. Everytime I see him, I'm like, "who hurt you?"
The children of the forest?
Starks
Wildlings?
They literally show who hurt him in the show. I know it's a "euphemism" but still. 🙄
Yeah…I always look at how he avoided a 1v1 match against Jon. He specifically did not want to kill him. So it tells me there is more to him than what we are told.
I agree and offer a slight variation on the pact/conditions... As we get closer to the end I can't help but thinking that the "Bittersweet" ending will be kind of the like the Pirates of the Caribbean series where they "win" but Will Turner ends up having to take the place of Davy Jones and escort souls to the "Other" side, even though he gets Elizabeth Swann as his wife he can't be with her and their son. I think the pact involved conditions "There must always be a Stark in Winterfell," the natural dead had to be given to the Weirwoods, as well as some special expiration condition (AA, PTWP, LH etc., Comet, Special Blood) .The North Remembers but they forgot the pact and stopped offering their dead to the weirwoods. The Others were stirring before the dragons, so something else is the trigger. I believe they were triggered by Jon's birth, and maybe they're here to collect the dead they were owed (or are just twisted from their original purpose like Davy Jones was too) and a new King. Dany isn't evil either she is there to aid his transition and restore the balance, she will need to stab John with dragon glass to bring the Dawn, kind of like Elizabeth cutting out Will's heart so he can be the new immortal Davy Jones. Lightbringer can be their child, or some physical entity symbolic of the pact. So even though Jon is the heir of Rhaegar, the inheritor to Winterfell per Robb's will, wed to Danaerys and (maybe has a son), he will just barely get to have everything he ever wished for and then have to give it all up for the pact. How's that for Bittersweet?
Claire Dishong i like the theory that Jon's birth triggers the awakening. remember Crasta has given 99 sons to the others so they have been awake for some nice little chuck of time. As far as the dragons birth goes, remember what the house of the undying taught us... thier magic was reborn with the dragons and is strongest when they were near.
Like in world of Warcraft "there must always be a lich King"
Arya remembers. The North remembers. Winter came for the Freys, because they did not keep a pact. Arya was not born to be a queen. Arya respects the pact. Jon has been with his aunt. J + A = the pact
Jon’s birth makes much more sense. If the dragons were the trigger, this would’ve all jumped off when Aegon conquered Westeros. It’s not like Daenerys dragons are the first in Westeros and she’s not even using them to reek havoc across the 7 kingdoms the way Aegon did. I totally believe it is time for the agreed upon terms of the pact to met. That’s why the symbols from the cave on Dragonstone keep emerging, the funeral pyre Dany walked into, the symbols arranged by the Others out of body parts, the spiral the Dothraki made when they surrounded Dany on horseback. The symbols are all markers to this future event approaching. It’s completely a Davy Jones/Will Turner thing.

According to an episode in 7, they are social. They cry for help. They react to insult (the hound's rock throw).
cameron schmitt...the wight cried for help, and the wight responded to getting hit by the rock. The White Walkers haven’t done anything but kill and create more wights
@@pontius2000 nah the white walkers are not just killing machines, otherwise they would not wear black uniforms (the night king and his 12 officers), have a sigil or leave messages. i also think the last hero from the first long night is probably the current night king. during the episode in which crasters baby is turned into a WW, you can clearly see 12 officer WW in the background. the last hero also had 12 companions during the first long night. and we know that the night king and white walkers during the first long night did not wear uniforms and the first night king had a beard. this is clearly seen when jon shows the dragonglass cave and drawings to dany in season 7. i think the last hero went to the children to ask for help and there they made him the second night king, the second night king killed the first and took the army of the dead back north as part of the agreement made between the first men and the second night king/last hero with his 12 companions also becoming white walkers.
The notification that always brightens my day😃🔥👌
Ive read the books all over again. And the night king missed one big part. A dragon is not a slave...

This is one of the best theories I’ve heard by far. Thanks for sharing it, and a thank you to the OP! Great food for thought. Especially considering Martin’s quote about Tolkien, and essentially saying that GoT won’t be another simple good vs evil story, and also considering Martin has said the ending will be bittersweet. A+ theory here

Excellent job doing this research Dan!
I gotta say this theory makes a lot of sense.
Does it?, So why didn't the WW attack Aegon Targaryen 300 years earlier?, It makes zero sense.
The Mutual Friend it doesn’t Rhaegar believed he was Azor Ahai that’s why he spent so much time training he wanted 3 children only was able to get 2 he married Lyanna and had Aegon aka Jon I believe that he’s Azor Ahai and he will fall in love with Khalessi and have to kill her in order to stop the Night King or the other way around either way one of them will NOT survive the end of this story I also believe that Bran will warg into the Ice Dragon and Jon or Dany will ride the other dragons and they will build a wall of dragon glass keeping the walkers out BOOM that’s my theory remember this
@@DC-rm5lo Technically, if they rebuilt the wall over the magic, while the Dead are on the other side, they should cease t exist ? It would not hve to be 700 feet tall. Just standing in full length.

Jon does fit the Nights King to perfection in wiki, both lord commanders, both have a brother called Brandon, both gave his seed to a woman, the Night’s King was a Stark, Jon is half Stark, the nights Kings name is banned, Ygritte in the books tells Jon his name is evil, Brandon the breaker was king in the North but assuming the information is a bit false perhaps it was his actually his unamed brother? Jon could well become the Night King its a good theory
I hope not

It's an interesting theory. The main flaw, I think, is it doesn't explain why the Others didn't move south during the time the Targaryens were at their strongest. Dany is hardly the first Targaryen after that so-called pact, to have full fledged dragons and be immune to fire.
Very interesting. Lately, tho, I’ve been wondering about Arya and Littlefinger. Did she take his face? Did she feed him to the weirwood tree? Can she use his face to infiltrate Kings Landing? Thanks for all the lovely discussions!
Great video :-)
This theory is really good! It makes a lot of sense
This is the best theory I've seen.
The "Don't get Little fingered" is hilarious!
I love this channel.
That's a fantastic theory, especially the part about the Stark and Valerian blood. I think it is Preston Jacob, but I remember a great theory that this isn't a medieval story but some sort of dark ages after a planet wide or intergalactic war went nuclear. The theory indicated mutations in the generic code...wargs, valerians, telepaths, mages, faceless men and whatnot.
Good video!
Minds of wolves and Robins?
Great stuff sounds possible

I've lost any kind of trust in the show runners to give any kind of deeper explaination as to what the purpose is of the WWs. I bet they're going to be the stereotypical mindless killing machines which the protagonist (jon snow) has to destroy in order to be the hero at the end of it all. Ever since they got past the books, the show has turned into a traditional hollywood-esque dramatis.
They took over a year for the writing of the script... I guess they have a good ending for us in petto
@@luuksnijder2278 It does seem more Hollywood predictable than before.. Eg. episode 2 of season 8, enjoy the party death awaits many of you..

This is a crazy but a sensible one
I do truly believe there was some kind of deal made that has been broken, but I feel that will be for the books only and the TV show will just have the others just be the bad monster invaders that Jon will destroy but not without alot of death. I seen d&d say that the whitewalkers won't talk in the show as death doesn't speak. So I think they going for that angle of they just monsters. But if not I shall be pleasantly surprised. Amazing video as always ♥ keep it up and happy holidays @Talking_Thrones and to all xoxo
But Miss Nicole, they took an year off to write well and finish the show.
They had probably written very well.
I do agree with you that they won't reveal the exact definitive origin of the Whitewalkers, but they'll hint us many things.
Why do I think so??
Because there are spin-offs to this novel that are going to come out .
They'll keep vital information for the spin-offs.
They can only give away enough secrets, that won’t impact the Prequel Serie(s). If we know everything, just finding out how they are made isn’t that interesting.
I personally trust the writing for this season, because of the input from GRRM m, and knowing how it’s ending in the book.
@@cjwrench07 oh GRRM worked with d&d for this last season? Then it's gonna be epic in every way and now I am looking forward to it even more ☺
Nicole rea Yeah, they brought him in as a direct consultant, not an outside one like the past. They really wanted to hit a homerun with this last season.
The talk was HBO was worded about the last season, when they didn’t have a book to go by, and asked him and his team to help them out. Especially since GRRM has his first draft into the publishers already, but the show-runners didn’t have direct access to it.
@@cjwrench07 awesome thanks for letting me know this. Gosh I am super excited now yay 😁
Interesting idea
Great prices on merch!
I always found The Pact theory most compelling.
What I never really looked up closely, is Azor Ahai (Song of Fire) being a villain, in the Prince That Was Promised (Song of Ice and Fire) story.
Yet, from what we heard about prequel series - "Long Night" - about legends being fabricated and history rewritten, I've come to expect the other theory - of Corpse Queen being just a girl, possibly Wildling, very convincing. If Night's King had been just like Jon Snow - trying to make peace with hated Wildlings, being falsely accused and killed by his brothers, then demonised in pages of history by the honorable Starks... That, I would consider interensing spin on the story as well.
What if Night King has carried a curse all this time? (Which is seen with his control of White Walkers, in turn with control of Wights)? The whole reasoning behind trying to stop Night King would be total misunderstanding of what his battle is all about.
Remembering something Dany said a while ago, about breaking the wheel. Remembering, also, The Night King showing Jon his 'power' was more like 'lift this curse from me'. - Other things fall into place too, if you follow the breadcrumbs, skipping the red herrings.
The Game Of Thrones isn't about what so many have believed it to be.
Theory
Part of the peace pact will require Dany to be turned into a white walker (Azor Ahai tempering his blade in Nissa Nissa's heart). Jon and Dany will rule from the wall as the King and Queen of winter.
I like this theory x
I think it is a good video with a good theory
Those quotes are clever.
That seams like a bitter sweat ending for me! Makes sense! Jon and Dany's child will be the sweater part ("a dream of spring"), Jon's taking the Night's King place and Dany's dead is the bitter part.
It seems more than possible. Martin said once and once again that asoiaf is not the battle of good against evil, so...
And we can't forget jon is dead in the books. Yes, he will be resurrected, but, he'll remain human after that? There is a good chance that in the books he will return with more consequences than in the tv series, and if he returns as something a bit inhuman, his destiny (whatever it might be) could be the same as gandalf or frodo in lotr: to go away, far from the living.
Or it could be that jon and dany must procreate to bring the world a true son of ice and fire, like the tv show is heading to, apparently. But i personally find that awkward, because jon is already a son of ice (lyanna stark) and fire (rhaegar targaryen). So his son with dany will be a son of ice melting in fire, sort of (3 targs v 1 stark in the dna pool)...
And maybe there is another possibility: dany marrying the nights king and going north of the wall. She os fire, the nights king is ice. Who knows...
This is a great theory
Thk U Sir, Fascinating! My Mouth Is Open!! If N Whn I Do Get 2 Read These Books, U Make It Much Easier 2 Understand Wth Soooo Many Options. Thks 4 My Wkly "Fix".
I love this theory and GRRMs allegories. The story is a great side story of how we are destroying the very home that let's us live. Just a genius with how he writes.
:) Excellent
I still think you should talk about the Night King's cloak pin. I know the outside resembles a crow. It is the inside that is important to me. It shows the round tower at Winterfell with Bran falling out. The show has also shown the symbiotic connection between them. Also, there is a connection of their powers that are very similar.
The Night King was a three eyed raven gone bad.
Love it. I like the idea of a union restoring the peace. Hope the show gives us an ending that's still as grounded in the world of the books as this theory.
When it comes to the show though and the way it has drawn all this attention to Daenerys not being able to have a child and now sleeping with Jon, I'm worried they'll do something involving giving up their baby to the others to forma peace treaty and that would probably cover the whole Azor Ahai imagery of sinking a sword into his lover's chest.
Just a thought tabout the direction of the show that struck me as I heard you speak
Regarding The Others waking up because of Targaryens, it cant be true.. the Valeryians had hundreds of dragons and they were outside of Westeros and still the Others did nothing to cross sea.. instead of fighting the Valeryians who are the threat to the Others, they decided to fight Men..? the Long Night already passed thousands of years ago and the 'threat of the dragons' came to Westeros like 500 years ago with Aegon and that was way after the Long Night, and still the Others did nothing when Aegon came.. so nope I dont think that this is a valid reason for the Others to wake up and start moving. Also about the Wall being made by the Others, If they made it to keep people out of their lands.. why are Men guarding the Wall and not them (the Others)? also not valid.. I think that there was a pact or something like that back then or maybe they just ran off to the lands of always winter and men couldnt follow..But regarding the Night King, I think that he's so freaking smart and he has the ability to know things.. like maybe the future. Because when John went beyond the Wall to get a deadguy for proof, the NK just surrounded him and kept waiting, now obviously he had spears and his aim is OP so he could've finished them 1 by 1 lol but he didn't he kept waiting for Dany to come so he can get a dragon, how did he know that Dany or dragons are coming? why not kill them with spears? does he have the ability to see the future? Or maybe he wargs into animals to spy on the other side of the wall? just like Bran is doing by spying on the NK? So many questions!!
Lol, well done you broke this theory on it head
Damnnnnn KO !
The night king might be a green seer like bran stark so yes, he might have the ability or even stronger ability then the 3 eyed
crow
Milton wanzala yes thats a 100% but im not talking about seeing the past or the present.. my question is how does he know that something is coming or about to happen?
You want alt shift x for proper solid GoT theories. this dude isnt that good
He even explains this theory way better and doesnt try to hawk merch
This idea may not be spot on. but it is the right kind of thing that fits the story. In the show old nan's tale of the early lord commander falling in love with an other that had a face as pale as the moon is a reflection on Jon and Daenerys. She is the moon of Drog's life. Also, if you listen to Jon at the end of season 6 he says that the real enemy does not wait out the storm he brings it. At the beginning of season 7 Daenerys 'stormborn' lands in Dragonstone whilst a major storm rages. They discuss that she was born during the worst storm in living memory. I think that it is possible that somehow she will become a whte walker and rule with Jon north of the wall.
Sounds good
love it :)
Interesting, very.
Wow I like that theory
Don't get Littlefingered is a great slogan to live by.
It will not occur in the book because, although the writing/storyline has lagged significantly in the past couple of seasons, it is not the story that the showrunners are trying to tell. In the book, maybe, because the wall has not come down. That being said, I am sure the Free Folk would love to point a finger at the Crows and say that they're violating a Pact; Rhaegar already had an heir and did not need to keep the throne away from Dany (especially since she was not guaranteed to be born); this theory is stating that Targaryens are the reason for the Others and their army in the first place (which is laughable because the Long Night, as we are told, first arrived 8,000 years ago and well before Valyria was even a power); and Dany is, herself, a bit of Ice and Fire when you consider her Blackwood blood (Aegon V and Queen Consort Betha Blackwood (blood of the First Men and keeper of the Old Gods) beget Jaehaerys II, beget Aerys II, beget Daenerys I); even Bloodraven would be a great candidate for the merging of Ying and Yang forces. Dany's coupling in the show with Jon is another Pact of Ice and Fire (on top of Jon being, in the show, the latest example of Ice and Fire, unless you want to say that it is too late (in which case, give a girl a break). I like the idea, but the Others had plenty of Ice and Fire combos to choose from, even having Bloodraven forgo his own life to work and balance things out.
I was actually thinking the same thing, Danys ice and fire in her own right, so was Rheager so was bloodraven. Being a child of ice and fire ain't unique to Jon. I grow tired of this Jon snow pandering and making Dany the villian of this story. Last time Iooked Jon didn't save 100 of thousands of slaves in slaversbay, but Dany did. But I guess jons sooooo honourable so we must all root for him
That's my thing. Dany is shaking up the world for the better, and came west with most of known Essos united behind her. You're telling me that ending slavery and claiming a birthright is evil? How is she to know who Jon is (in the show), and that his claim is stronger?
Plus, in the show, Bran was touch in the Westwood net by the Night King and allowed for their position to be discovered. This causes the death of the powerful 3-Eyed Raven, which worked in conjunction with the magical forces of the wall, and forces Bran to be the opposing force in a war that he barely understood was talking place. Blame Bran.
Yep, we at house blackwood class Dany as one of our own, She is just as much blackwood as she is targeyen. Tyto blackwood would be proud.
Being honest I really like it I don't want an ending with just battles and war and that's it this theory gives got a very good originality which even though it already has an ending with peace with Demons(thats what we believe) Is fantastic and also agrees with GRRM opinions of how much he hates war
I'm remembering Melisandra's powerful fixation on Stanis Borathian. She was blindly fixated on King's blood, and specifically, Stanis's blood. She made Stanis gaze into the flames until he saw what she saw. Though I doubt that Stanis was "resurrected" after B. of Tarth killed him, I often wonder what Melisandra's actually saw. She may not fully see the pieces on the board, but she does seem to know how the prophecy plays out. I hope the show expounds the full extent of "The Red Woman's" knowledge. I feel as if she is the only one who knows the identity of the Night King . . .
Time will tell.
I think the white walkers came down because the future night king replacer, Jon Snow, was coming to age. And they go south with force to not give him a chance to decline the deal.
Loads of dragons and dragon riders have been around earlier without them marching south...
This makes a lot of sense! Haven’t you already made a video or videos, saying something similar about the ending being an agreement or new pact? Except this elaborates your original theory, I’m guessing since we got the teaser showing the ice and fire clashing with each other. Damn I hope this is the ending though, it would be a proper ending for this amazing story.
Edit: I’m definitely getting a hoodie!
I know one thing for sure, Danys azor ahai.
Is Gin Alley quote takin? One of my favs, I was Fookin Legend of GinAlley
Yes. I have thought since the very early days (Season 1) that it ends in some kind of balance. I don't have direct evidence of it; only a reference to what the story is based on. The books are inspired by the Wars of the Roses (Song of Ice and Fire) where the Starks (white rose York, white ice) and Targaryens (red rose, fire) end up uniting into a single house, Tudor (red and white roses combined; fire and ice combined).
I like this theory
It is an interesting theory
Yes, something like that...I mean the SALT symbol used in the opening scene first season hints that no "Guest right" was offered. Salt and bread was offered to Robb & party before the Red Wedding... signaling "Guest Right" had been observed. So...I do think this is the most obvious ending. John taking a wife other than his choosing, I'm hoping not!
pretty cool theory. That would be a bitter sweat ending
