    Great Video!! Love the mostly manual approach to trying new aircraft for sure!
    Whenever AP doesn't capture NAV due to being off course, I usually just enable heading mode, and use the heading bug to let AP take me back to the NAV route.
    Then enable NAV mode when close, and it'll intercept. That way, I keep the AP for altitude etc..
    Also, the red lever, normally mixture, is actually an idle setting in the caravan. In this vid, you're in low idle, which is great for taxiing on the ground and any ground ops. But for flight, move it up to high idle, which gives you faster throttle response. Useful on approaches and landings.
    Just remember to go back to low idle once on the ground and let it run in low idle for a few minutes while taxiing and parking. This way you don't overheat the engine on shutdown.
    High Idle then straight to cutoff would damage the engine. lol
    Well done!! 😎

      @AcesDwn1 You know that if NAV is enabled but does not capture and you use HDG mode without turning off NAV, the NAV is in standby mode and will capture automatically when close enough to the NAV course.

    • @AcesDwn1
      @AcesDwn1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@whammo11224 That's true! Maybe a bug or something, but sometimes GPS is not in white, so therefore not in standby. In those cases I've had to switch to NAV mode manually, but again, you're correct. If GPS is in white, it will capture on its own when close enough.
      Thanks for pointing that out! 😎😎

    Hello again. First, thank you for your video. I am learning this fantastic sim with your excellent guiding. Going for the caravan tomorrow. About your ps5, I can only say that you did the right thing. I honor you for that. You get the gold star from me.
    All the best to you and everybody else on your channel. /greetings from Sweden.

    Simply the most easy to follow tutorials on G-1000 ILS I have watched so far. I have completed all parts of Back to Basics with MSFS and I have learned a lot. Thanks for your efforts and please keep up this great work. Can you tell me however why you activated the approach inthis video (part 3) and in Part 2 but not in Part 4. When should I activate the approach I have set up through Procedures button and when should I not. Thanks again for the great videos.

    I always enjoy your videos. I have been helped a great deal from watching your flights and settings videos. Although I have only recently begun to fly I have learned a few techniques that have been helpful. I have two suggestions: 1) Prior to taking off set your heading to match the runway heading and activate the heading button. By doing this you will not drift off course prior to the autopilot being activated. 2) On final approach after having activated your selected approach, press the APR button just prior to the final approach fix to have the GP (Glideslope) armed to decrease your altitude automatically.

      Great tips Roger.
      In the first part of the flight, I was trying to emphasise the importance of getting used to a new/different aircraft; so hand-flying & learning trimming is an important part of this, rather than immediately relying on auto-pilot assistance.
      Likewise: I was also trying to emphasise the importance of manual landing without assistance.
      More advanced auto-pilot functions & procedures will be covered in later videos in this series :)

      @@Huddison & Mr. Jones . . .
      I think I saw some questions regarding FS on how to "Center the Heading Bug to the current heading on the "Old School" indicator.
      I discovered quite by accident the other day an easy way to accomplish this with a mouse connected to the Xbox S.
      While placing the mouse over the on the Heading Indicator Dial, press & HOLD the Left Mouse button while Clicking the Right Mouse Button. "Blind Squirrel" found a nut.

    Great video as usual it’s nice to be able to fly different aircraft also it’s good to see the basics in action.I’ve not flown the caravan yet but this will give me some encouragement to do so.it’s also Nice to hear that the person I like to listen to has some morals When selling secondhand gear there’s too many organisations out there,that want to make vast amounts of money out of persons enjoying their hobby.

    That was fun. I'm following along closely but when I punch in my alternate landing mode(???) I lose my pink nav lines and manually get back and land. Keep working at it. I also think you should of dropped the price 25 to 50 pounds, she was your friend and it was a play station, that's just me and you did ask in the video for input. Now to go back and figure out what im doing wrong. It isn't you its me.

    You didnt need to turn the autopilot off to get back on track.
    You should have used hdg mode to put you on an intercept heading,then arm nav and it will intercept the track.

    When I turned the AP off to fly the Grand Caravan back closer to the magenta line in order to re-engage GPS mode, I “overstressed” the plane. Would a better technique be to keep the AP on and use the Heading mode and Heading Bug to slowly intercept the GPS course?

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  Před 2 lety

      Yes heading mode in AP, is much more preferable Alan.

    22:03 I have to change transition to straight otherwise it doesn't allow activate approach only vectors to final if I leave vectors there?
    With the ps5 I think I'd have sold to cex. Even though they sell for the high price, they still gotta sell it and get that price

      See later videos in my Back to Basics Series: I show easier ways of capturing an approach.
