I hardly ever comment on youtube content but this was a breath of fresh air, have to chime in. Thank you so much for this video. It makes me feel less of an idiot not using an external tool and less guilty not paying for navigraph subscription. I have been flight simming for about the same time as yourself but keep falling in the trap of accumulating all the so called 'real world' tools in the never ending quest for realism. The only result I notice is stress and fatigue. What's the point of a hobby if it becomes stressful and robs you of the fun it is meant to provide. There's already a long list of external apps that need to be managed while simming. With constant updates , there's always something broken somewhere. We flight simmers spend more time fixing stuff than flight simming. This helps with atleast one less thing to worry about outside of the sim. Thanks again.
I agree 100%, well said thanks
Great video and exactly what I was looking for as a sim newbie. Thanks for posting this and great simple explanations
Thank you , I am so glad to hear you say what you did about long time simmers expectations of new simmers. It can isolate new timers into thinking "I'm not going to ask that question for fear it might make me look stupid, so well done you!!!I have now subscribed!
That was a great tutorial. I never knew the range circle for that particular aircraft was also displayed as a circle. Awesome. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Very helpful and clear.
This the best video I’ve ever seen for flight planning in MSFS. Well done! Subscribed.
I am a complete newbie. But I agree with the last comment from a year ago. You spoke on the video knowing that most viewers are probably new, or inexperienced on this subject. Keeping instructions simple without talking down to the viewer is very much appreciated and informative. I haven't looked at your library of videos yet. But I hope that after 3 years, if there are huge changes in MSFS since this was recorded, that you may consider doing a follow-up video on this subject.
Thanks for the info.ou
A very useful, straight forward and informative video that has helped me no end. Thanks!
Just learning about the runway numbers and degrees based on weather was incredible to know! I just never knew that and not sure, outside of maybe a course, if I would've ever learned that. So, thank you. I knew a lot of this but, didn't know the reasoning behind it. This was VERY insightful and educational. Looking forward to my next sim flight now!
THANK YOU! SUBSCRIBED!!!
I'm definitely one of the 98% you were talking about. Thanks for a great informative video. It's exactly what I was looking for but didn't know it till I watched it.
Thank you very much 😊
Love it!! I'm so happy I came across your video, I want to go to external websites. Thank you Tall Turtle.
Thank you voor this video. You explained it clearly. Now use it regularly. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Amazing, thankyou! Exactly what I was looking for :)
Awesome tutorial. This is exactly what i was looking for to move to my next step up in flight planning. 👍
Many thanks, a most sensible approach and just what most of us need!
No problem! With the update to the in-sim VFR map, you can do even MORE within the sim now, but if I made an updated video, this one would still get suggested to people more, heh.
Thanks for the best information I ever had in relation to the Flight Sim.
Thanks for post. Will subscribe!!
Great video!! Very helpful!
This is the best Video I have found so far. Thank you!
You bet! No problem!
Thank you! Great tutorial, I have just subscribed.
Awesome, thanks! Subscribed!
Great tutorial. Thank you!
Thanks a lot for this video, really. I am an IL-2 and DCS virtual pilot that is looking to get into MSFS 2020 and was a bit overwhelmed at people talking about Navigraph, Littlenavmap and other tools. Now I know I will most likely never need to overcomplicate things.
It's gotten even BETTER since I made this video. Now the VFR map has EVERYTHING you need when you click on airports, VORs, NDBs, etc, and if you are using an IFR flight, the sim will set all the frequencies and headings for you! You can make is as simple or complex as you'd like with success no matter what!
Ports-mouth? NO Port-Smith! Very informative video. Thanks.
One of the best guides, thank you! You got one more subscriber too!
"You've been doing this for 20 years" but you still explain it in a way so anyone (me) can totally understand
Liked and Subscribed
Thanks so much. Looking forward to watching your other content
Glad you found it helpful! Yes, my "niche" is to narrate so that anyone can understand, especially those who are just starting.
Thank you for this tutorial 🙂
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! So glad to hear I wasn't the only one thinking it was ridiculous that we needed all that crap. I just want to fly point a to b and enjoy the peace and relaxation. How to auto pilot and look at the scenery.
very good video I hope you learn us more about the flight in the future. thenk you.
Thank you for this informative presentation...It makes it so easy... Roger...Pembrokeshire
Thanks for your clear information on how to plan flight inside the Simulator. I’ve always wondered why people got third party software to create flights.
The 3rd party thing is a hold over from all the other simulators leading up to this one in which you HAD to use 3rd party stuff for pretty much everything. People don't believe that anything within the sim will be good enough. Sure, it's not good enough for 1% of the super hardcore simmers, but it's plenty fine for the other 99% of us. It will take a very long time for people to trust the core sim. :)
Very informative
Good job
nice video. About doing custom navigation waypoints, they are useful when you try to traverse the alps for example in a cessna 172. :)
Great video, thanks 4 posting. I just got msfs2020, been into flight swimming awhile and jumping into a newer program takes a little time ti readjust how to do all the basics we learned in other platforms.
Question 4 you or the group here.
What does the solid white circle around the plane in say a cessna on G1000 MFD mean?
Just wanted to say thank you for this video. It really cleared up a lot of flight planning issues I had with selecting the right runway and lining up for landing. I'm a beginner, just started playing. Now I just have to figure out how to get the landing blue boxes to work. Sometimes they show up. But most of the time they don't. I'm not good and descending at the right level yet. Wish the game gave more help and tips while flying.
What do you mean by "landing blue boxes"?
@@TheTallTurtle they are more like blue brackets that you fly in between. And they slant down to the runway so you get your landing angle right. It also tells you if you are too fast or too slow.
thank you your dead right they make it far to complicated the way you done it is perfect u have a subscriber 😁
Totally agree but I use Littlenavmap also and plan my own flights no issues.I do run into problems using the in-game fmc as my plane seems to go off on it’s own.Are you saying that could be a result of not using atc or something else? Thanks just subbed you.
Amazing I never knew this! One issue, when choosing gate, no idea if it’s big enough, jetway or not etc for GSX. Any help here? Thanks
Accidentally or intentionally pretentious ..... he he he ..... you nailed it !!!
I'm sitting here smiling and laughing at myself. 69 and new to msfs and learning. I have xbox and have watched alot of videos. You make it so easy and learnable when I find myself going off on these needless tangents. Thanks. added you to my subscibed list. PS how do you turn the range circle back to the half circle showing the degrees, I once had it but changed it and can’t get it back. Thanks.
On the HSI regarding the half circle/full circle? Depends on the aircraft, but there is usually a dial that says something like "full, ARC, something, something" in that area.
@@TheTallTurtle I bet your right. I was thinking about it late last night and thought I bet it was a different aircraft and not the Cessnna 172. I was following some one in the Grand Caravan and bet it was that plane. Have my computer screen next to TV with youtube so I can follow along at the same time. Thanks for saving me money and not joining some web site for charts and stuff when everything I need is right in the sim.
@@lfisher441 one of the greatest feelings was cancelling all of my various subscriptions that I needed to get the most out of X-Plane 11 which I don't need with MSFS. :)
Pronounced as 'portsmith.' Been there dozens of times! Nice city
Every time i select an airport for departure and arrival it never shows me how long it’s gonna take to get there like you’re said an hour and mine just shows from where I start to where I end it doesn’t show the time please help
Can we do multiple stops on one flight plan? For example, I want to take off from NY, land in Pittsburg, then to Chicago…Aloha, John
I have never tried! Something to experiment with.
Can you do a transit stop in this game? For example flying to an airport and from that airport flying to another. Is something like that available in the game?
Great question! Someone else will have to confirm if you don't have access to the sim to experiment yourself.
Hey man, I want to fly VOR to VOR myself using NAV1 and NAV2 instruments in Microsoft flight SIM on Xbox series X. Is this option possible or will the simulator only do VOR to VOR flying automatically via flight plan? Thanks.
If you know the frequencies. And the vor station isnt 1000miles away. You can. Put the right frequenci in nav 1 and take of and then you will see, if you are close enough to get signal from vor
hi there,
I bought 3rd party planes such, CRJ 550/700 from Aerosoft, Boeing 777 from Catainsim etc etc
Question can I fly those with MSFS planner?
Thanks
I don't see why not!
Hi! Do you know if the in game atc will change my ifr flight plan based on real weather? ( changes on approach, take off runway or landing runway? ) thank you!
Yes, it will as of two updates ago. You have to go into settings and accessibility (I think?) and turn it on to do what you want, though. It won't do it by default.
@@TheTallTurtle thank you very much :)
And what this guy made...a video about simple navigation. About the first things you need to know when you fly plane. The runway number meaning... flyig into the wind...that is the first thing you need to know even before buying flight simulator...how can you try to properly fly if you dount know the basics ??? Its like driving car, but you dount know how to properly enter the car... or open the hood... before you buy car tou learn how to ride. And to some basic stuff. Then you buy car. The same thing here. You learn, and then think- is it fun? Do i like it? If yes. Then buy it and learn along the way. But no...people buy. Fly. And almoust cry and then just find simple video...that is just simple knowledge...and boom. Every coment says wonderfull info...know i know. No one knows everything and you live and you learn. But its so weird to find out that this simple video is so useful...and even here he is not talking about some harder stuff. Like when you navigate you have airspace with corridors. That has ceilings and some times unlimited ceilings. And other things too. But its just crazy... ok never mind. ( good job on making this video) !!! Thats for sure!
I realise this video is old but you have to use simbrief or manually install the flight plan into airliners their onboard computer does not recognise the world map flight plan.
I don’t do it often, but it’s worked for me to do it manually. 🤔 Maybe I’ll try it again some day.
In fact, I set-up flights in the 747 last year to follow Formula One around using just the World Map, and the FMS followed just fine. It wasn't perfect because it was before the big update, but it worked well-enough.
My apologues I got that wrong you can actually install a world map flight plan into airliners from MSFS. I will try the PMDG and FBW versions.
Can you open this planner while flying ?
It goes into your NAV LOG. Just press "N" on your keyboard while in flight.
@@TheTallTurtle thx i’ll try it asap
For some reason, when I select a different SID, it positions me on a runway instead of a parking spot.
You have to zoom into the airport again and select a parking spot as your Departure.
@@TheTallTurtle I usually type the airport code in the “Select Departure” field on the map. Would that make a difference?
@@kevindavis8175 you still have to zoom in and choose a parking spot.
@@TheTallTurtle So click on the parking spot instead of using the drop-down menu?
@@kevindavis8175 that's how I do it. I trust that way more.
im zach
Probably the most disappointing part of MSFS20 for me is ATC and that popup window that steal immersion.
Ya. By now I have memorized the ATC window numbers, so I hardly need to have it up to communicate now!
If Asbo would just add replays…
They just have!
i have a question about this if someone can get back to me thatd be much appreciated i think i’m doing something wrong and it’s messing w my flights
What is the question?
@@TheTallTurtle so when you have a flight plan set in place say from JFK to LAX you have a flight path that is already logged into your plane and the plane stays on that flight path all the way from point a to point b.. but in my case for some reason could be half way through the flight could be an hour in some. the flight path isn’t just 1 line it turns into 2 lines right next to eachother. and my plane follows the first line like normal but then makes a sharp u-turn and follows the other line backwards
@@sanchez2855 sounds like the transition and approach don't agree with the flight plan, and it's turning back to catch the transition. I have had the same issue. IFR isn't the greatest in this sim, so you need to jump in and take over sometimes.
@@TheTallTurtle that’s what i think it is too sometimes i’m doing a 3 hour flight though and randomly my flight path turns into 2 lines and auto pilot doesn’t know what to do
@@TheTallTurtle so essentially i’m just screwed
Really, there are people who think if you want to fly in simulator you need to buy or subscribe to million other sh#£. Just why? The game is made so you can play it without any crap. Ok. You can do more realistic flight. But look. For 1h flight with zibo mod on xplain 11 i need almoust 1h to prepare everything for flight. The route and xargo and fuel and loading simulator. And the right plane in right airport. Just for what? For 30 min star up procedure 1h flight and for some reason, there was a bug in that airport on ils. And i crashed. And now what. I am angry and disapointed because i have wasted 2 to 3 h of my time to land plane and unsuccessfully crased it. And paying for thos crap pie reql life programme...for what??? Because you sit in front of a computer? And not flying in real life??? Go out there and get a real pilot licence...not just pay some company hundrends dollar's for nothing... are realy people so dumb??? Cmon...know I understand why USA has so many problem's...because people dount realy think with their heads and only think what other say...
