Hearts of Iron IV is a grand strategy wargame developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. Released on June 6, 2016, it is the sequel to Hearts of Iron III and part of the Hearts of Iron series of grand strategy games focusing on World War II. The player may take control of any nation in the world in either 1936 or 1939 and lead them to victory or defeat against other countries.

Oppose Hitler is exclusive with Rheinland, meaning that if you want to do any of the historical things like Anschluss, Demand Sudetenland and more you will not be able to get rid of Hitler (except for an exploit that I'm not sure exists anymore).

one game in 1940 i had poland attacking romania while japan attacked the soviets and US was fighting the allies and germany still had not done the anchluss

@@luansagara Yeah it does, it seems all my historical games atm unless I'm some form of axis country, they lose by 1943, due to endless non stop naval invasions in Europe. Literally as soon as the US joins the allies, it's game over in 18 months lately

I like to go for all three as the uk to allow for flexible operations in early ww2
Is it rare tho? Usually people focus on both land and air forces, because without using op strategies and exploits its rather hard to win with only one branch. About navy - depends on country. Besides UK, USA and Japan its not really worth it to invest in navy. Research time, building slots, resources, all of this can be used better for land and air forces. For naval invasions you just need to pump out shit load of subs and planes and thats it. And thats what Dave did here also. Navy is just not relevant for most of the countries
@@TaikaJamppa if you play the game youd switch to infantry > air > litteraly anything else > navy. Navy is just so complicated and a big waste of time if your not UK/USA/Japan. even if you are one of those you will probably only research a few things for navy. prettymuch everyone just spams subs/convoys and never thinks about it again
@@TaikaJamppa Navy isn't that great, both because it's complicated, but also because it requires a special factory(dockyard) to make their equipment, instead of the easily switchable military factories between air and ground forces.
Furthermore, all you have to do to nullify an enemy navy is to get a decent/good airforce with bombers(not even naval bombers necessarily) to attack the shit out of a sea tile. Navally invading the UK is deceptively easy to the point it's funny that you can just launch ~3k fighters and ~2k Close air support planes over the english channel and watch the royal navy dissolve. After that just send some 5 boats to gain "naval supremacy" and congrats, you've sucessfully defeated the greatest navy of the world.
@@hopin8krzys, I play UK, only use infantry and make an army with at least 200 divisions, then join/start the war and steamroll the enemy, no matter if I’m probably The Racis-Fascist BRITISH EMPIRE!!!!

@@directrulefromgamerchair3947 As far as I know no, because you lose fascist demagogue and thus option to change to fascist government. There is an option if you get defeated by fascist government and then it puppets you, it is unlikely though with AI, it will probably just annex you in most cases.

I feel like the English AI doesn't handle naval invasions very well. In my experience when I,as Germany, land troops on England the war is basically over. I usually more or less steamroll the entire island. The longest English siege I've had was a year. That was a reverse D-Day in late 1944 after the UK had been isolated for several years (and had American support)
I mean, that goes for most countries that are cut of by sea.
If you directly naval invade America, it is over for them.
The AI pretty much does its best to prevent being naval invaded (by building ships and planes at a increased rate), but in exchange it doesnt really put out many (or even strong) divisions.
Next time, just before you invade, use the console and look at what troops ENG has on the island.
I've never seen much more than shitty garrison units....
i've tried about 20 times and did everything correct and they still have stock piled 30+ divisions that instantly appear when I naval invade
and i still couldn't get the naval superiority for the east north sea, they just had 360+ french + english ships there
and there are about 5 divisions on garrison on every single port
remember, they have always had that insane response time and garrisons

i have a challenge for you, it's called "logistical nightmare"
Play as historic Germany, PRODUCE AND USE ALL the equipment in the tree including tank variant and planes (exception for the navy, it may be a little too harsh but you can try if you are super awesome), but you can't change you production, you put a factory on tier1 guns? this factory is allowed to produce only that for all the game.
I like all of your videos.It dosen t matter if they are exploit or best strategy videos.Keep it going.

Anyone know if a unit’s amphibious bonus applies if they are defending against an amphibious attack? Would marines do more damage against naval invaders or against units attacking across a river?
Defence against amphibious assaults of the nation you've built intel on
You can see this quite easily.
When designing your division, it shows landscape bonuses.
For marines, you'll see they get attack and movement bonuses, but not for defense (iirc).
That said, the attacker still takes a penalty based on the terrain ofc, as always

Is it bad that I use the “civilwar” command a lot, although I only every use it if I think the USA deserves it, it’s fun to see a blue “United States of America” fight a green “United States of America”.

I definitely think a mix of both exploits and silly strategies are good. Like, to provide a counterpoint I think you're going too far if you're using a trick like say, instantly capitulating a country (e.g. Order 66) but when you're still actually "playing the game" it's still good to watch, so to speak. Hope that feedback makes sense!
op strats are more fun to watch imo but I enjoy whatever you put out :)

I'd like to see some achievement runs that work without la resistance, but still in the latest patch.
@@laytonmaybury6195 You need WTT to get the Oppose Hitler tree.
Training Time buffs don't affect reinforcement time, so the switch to Limited Conscription & the continuous focus had no effect on the time to reinforce your existing divisions whatsoever. They only affect the training of *new* divisions.
Just a quick way to speed up the strat the bathtub sub is already produced it’s the type 2 sub so no need to grind navy xp at the beginning for it

Also quick question: i thought you get atleast 1 extra spy for being spimaster, even if you are alone (maybe i am mixing this up) but if you do, isnt the 50 pp for spymaster much more useful then the 150 for the elusive gent?

Research Military Police and build the garrison with 4 battalions of infantry and MP support. It helps cuts down the resistance target better.

i like that the UK actually put up a fight. I feel like in the past, it was super easy to just walk all over them in the early game.

OMG... that auto duplicate button is going to save me so much time... I mean I usually just set most of my air wings to follow my armies, but with that functionality I can start actually optimizing stuff without it taking forever. Oh, and as far as what I put with my armies... Fighter squadron of 800 and a CAS squadron of 400 which is then divided up in to ones at 50 size using the D key...
Still though, that will save me a ton of time.

And it's a bunch of liberal democracies in a voluntary agreement. So nothing like the 3rd reich

The one thing I desperately miss in HOI4 is a multi-non-military alliance factions system to more accurately form a non-federalised EU, and many other types of organisations like the UN etc. Obviously some of these would not make sense in the base-game, other than for things like the League of Nations, but it could be great fun for mods. Edit: I really want a more established diplomacy system.

Why is it better to deploy immediately your units and then train them yourself opposed to waiting for a trained deployment? Does it not use more equipment and fuel to train them yourself?
You didn't need to create a new bathtub. If you clicked "show outdated equipment," the type II is already the crappiest you can make.

@@arandomoctopus2532 oh, but Hungary, Romania and Italy were members of the Axis, while Spain was a highly friendly to Axis state, and germans (as well as italians) took part in it's civil war before. Also Germany [did] invade Hungary in a sence when in 1944 Horthy realised that war is lost and thought to pull out Italy and switch sides. So germans sent there an army and instilled a puppet regime. Operation Margarethe and Operation Panzerfaust.

I was a bit to slow in the early game so while i was fighting UK and France i had to fight the soviets and when the soviets died i had to fight japan and then in 1946 i became the EU for the first time
